MLB will likely pull the plug before we see just how bad this team is.

The odds of there actually being a football season are slim to none at the moment...so Ben baring his soul just now is fine.

Re: A Steelers preview and prediction

As currently structured, as soon as Ben goes down, we instantly become worse than Cleveland and Detroit. Tomlin did a pretty great job holding the ship above water for that 8-8 finish last season. I agree Tomlin did a great job last year. In fact I was one of those fans on the coach of the year ban...

Re: Bulls, Pirates, Steelers and Jordan, Bonds, Ben

My brother called Bonds "Mr June" Had he even been decent in '90-'92 the win one of those. Such a lost opportunity. People forget Drabek went 22-6 and won the Cy young in 1990. It was fun watching them be that good while the steelers were struggling. Drabek was great and the starting pitching was s...

Re: Is Ben's throw in Super Bowl 43 the best throw in NFL history?

And what about the huge completion, from his own EZ about to get creamed, for a 25-yd(?) gain and 1st down to Holmes.....called back on bullshit? Could almost have iced the game if not for the phantom hold. But then we would never have gotten the greatest game-winning TD in SB history. Ben deserved...

Re: McFadden 2005 divisional game @ Indy

I must be getting old. I had no idea that Ben hurt his throwing arm during that game. Is that actually the case? It is referred to during the NFL's Greatest GAmes or Classic games? (not sure) segment that aired this matchup last week. Something about a hyperextension. My memory isn't that bad and I...

Re: Bulls, Pirates, Steelers and Jordan, Bonds, Ben

Good post and totally agree. As for baseball. I think we're seeing some of the best baseball in a while. A lot of young, exciting talent coming through the league right now. Plus, you have the modern day Mantle in Trout who at this pace might go down as the best or top 3 of all time. Somewhat meh. ...

Re: Bulls, Pirates, Steelers and Jordan, Bonds, Ben

Bonds, Bonilla, Van Slyke was one of, if not the best outfields in baseball at the time. All that team needed was a closer and they would have won a World Series. Bonds actually showing up in the playoffs certainly would have helped too. I was a huge Pirate fan back then. Leyland smoking in the dug...

he doesn’t look out of shape to me. He will lose weight when he starts training. That's what I would say - doesn't look out-of-shape. Looks about like late-July Ben from previous years. Like someone said, he couldn't do a whole lot other than ride exercise bikes. He shouldn't have any problem dropp...

Never met Terry but met Jack Lambert, John Stallworth, Chuck Noll and the Chief once.

Tom Donahoe was my driving instructor...many of my lessons involved driving to Three Rivers Stadium so he could pick up film.

I met Gabe Rivera once too but that was at a 7-11.

Kinda wish it was longer than 1 year

Overall I feel like he's been a fantastic GM.
Do they always only extend him by one year?

Or is he thinking "I'm coming back only one year because I want to see how Ben is...if he's good I'll commit...if not, see ya?"

Or is ownership thinking that?

Re: Does Tomlin Pull a Shanahan?

How exactly was it iffy? Almost never called, especially in postseason. I didn't think he gained sn advantage from it, since it was more of reaching out to feel the defender than it was shove. The defender was already DOA on the play. Anyway, see the Minnesota - New Orleans ending for how that's us...

Re: Fat F*ck Peter King

I don't get the love for Atwater at all, just never thought he was a Hall of Famer. Yeah, he was a first rounder, yeah, he was a big hitter, but his overall game was just really blah to me. There was another safety drafted in 1989, in the second round and I feel he was better than Atwater. That saf...

Re: Ben injury update

It's possible Ben comes back with high level velocity. No reason not to hope for that outcome. If he still has it, this will be a very interesting team. If we can keep the D together and add some OL and skill level players, he doesn’t even have to come back to his old self. And before Rudolph got i...

Re: Does Tomlin Pull a Shanahan?

Biggest fallout/gripe floating around the interweb right now about the Super Bowl is Shanahan’s decision to completely botch the 9ers final possession of the first half. It was an odd combination of clock gaming and vaginitis in the biggest game of the season - a chance to win a record tying sixth ...

Re: Does Tomlin Pull a Shanahan?

However, does Shanahan keep repeating those same type of mistakes for the next 10 plus years over and over? Wasn't Shanahan the OC for the Falcons when they blew a 25 point lead? Two straight pass attempts while in FG range when they could have burned clock and established an 11 point lead. Every c...

Re: Super Bowl Thread

It sure looked like that play which was ruled an incompletion (Jimmy G.) in the final 2 minutes of the 4th was a fumble rather than a tuck rule. Appeared as though the ball was loosed and the impact of the hit forced the hand/arm forward. Being that the ball was not under complete control, would th...

Re: Super Bowl Thread

Anyway, watching the SB I realized this team just isn't going to win another SB with Tomlin. The team is routinely too sloppy and sluggish, and our schemes are too stale an predictable. The only way it happens is if we luck into a run against teams with mediocre QB's. Cue the "we almost beat KC and...
