I know in some high school football, there is actually a ref up in the booth controlling the play clock.
Yes the clock operator is an NFL employee, but he is most likely also a SD fan.

I think my finger would be a little biased at times as well ............if I was doing the clock for a Steeler game.

If this really happened, the Steelers should still protest and have the game film reviewed, even if they did win. They should purposely embarrass SD and the NFL! I admit, I wasn't paying attention to the time, then went to take a piss after the FG, so I missed it, then my little texting group blew up over it, I hear the Pittsburgh radio guys where going crazy. I have the DVR so I will look at that.

Conspiracy Theory- Did the NFL want SD to win so that it would help gain momentum to build a new stadium in SD and keep them out of LA? Maybe they want somebody else in LA and not two teams, like Chargers and Raiders, maybe they want Rams back instead, that kills a Cali market or two for them, even though SD is not far away and they would retain most of their fan base.

The announcers in the booth basically said Qualcomm is a shithole and they need to build a new stadium or the team will move to LA. I couldn't believe what I was hearing

The Heath catch.
Catches with 9 seconds. Hits ground at 8 seconds. Flags hit ground second later.
Flags should stop the play clock.

Clock rolls 2 or 3 more seconds.
Fishy fishy.

This shit happens all the time.

Sometimes the refs remember to put the time back on the clock...sometimes they don't.

That I call human response time.

The 20 seconds on the kickoff, though? Inexcusable.

Yeah, you have to remember the clock operators are up in a booth somewhere in the stadium watching for hand signals from the officials, especially on a play like that. I'm sure a lot of clock operators are pretty good at anticipating stoppages, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if there's a subconscious bias toward the home team when it comes to their reaction time late in games. Home team's running a 2:00 drill, they stop the clock as soon as they see a player go out of bounds or the refs blow the whistle for a timeout. The other team's driving to try to tie/win the game in the final minute? I'll stop the clock when I see the ref's signal.

Yeah I remember in the 2nd half hearing Tirico say that while the stadium looks good on the outside, the infrastructure is crap and they need a new one, or heading up the road.

Obviously the Patriots are involved in last night's clockgate as well. i wouldn't put the burnt turf in St. Louis past them either.

8-)

I think it's hilarious that you can see the clock move from 2:48 to 2:47 in the background...as Vick stolls on the field.

More black eyes on NFL ops....... seems like Kraft has his $$ hooks so far into these controlled outcomes, the entire country may come crashing down :P

Kraft controls the entire league, so clock errors in a game not involving the Patriots are also his doing?

you have trouble with your sarcasm nerd boy

the on field folks fucked up, this wasn't a Tomlin issue.

NFL admits side judge should have caught clock mistake
Posted by Michael David Smith on October 13, 2015, 12:15 PM EDT
Mike Vick AP

The NFL has acknowledged that the side judge working Monday night’s game in San Diego should have caught a mistake made by the clock operator.

“Because of an error by the clock operator, the game clock was incorrectly started before the Steelers’ first play from scrimmage following the touchback. That first down snap came with 2:38 left to play instead of 2:56, a difference of 18 seconds,” the league’s statement said. “The official game time is kept on the stadium scoreboard, but it is the responsibility of the side judge to supervise the timing of the game. Had the side judge or any of the other six on-field officials noticed the timing error, they could have corrected it.”

Although the NFL’s statement didn’t name him, Rob Vernatchi was the side judge for the game. That’s a huge mistake that will surely result in him being downgraded by the league office.

And it was the second consecutive Monday night game that saw a significant mistake by the officials, coming on the heels of last week’s illegal bat by the Seahawks, which probably cost the Lions the game. Even though this mistake probably didn’t change the outcome of the game (although it’s impossible to say for sure what would have happened had there been 18 more seconds on the clock in a game the Steelers won on the final play), it’s something the NFL needs to address. Officiating needs to get better.

HOnest question.

Has Blandino totally gone rogue here, or the Refs are protesting their labor situation by fucking up repeatedly? Or the NYC control booth is deemed to be all knowing and all powerful.....like some poster beginning with the letter J here?

Your link about the story doesn't name Robert Kraft or the Patriots.

You're the one that linked the clock mistake in San Diego to Robert Kraft, not me.

My sarcasm was spot on the mark...as usual.
