Running Game Looks Better

Post by Legacy User » Sun Aug 10, 2014 3:21 am

we only saw the starting group for 1 series, but they looked VERY GOOD to me.

Bell/Blount are light years ahead of that RB group we had last year -- it's almost like a bad dream.

The OL looked very good in the run game for that opening series.

I'm looking forward to next game, and maybe a couple more series.

Other than Foster getting destroyed on 1st play they did look immensely better. When teams stack the LOS as Giants did in red zone like to see quick out to AB, he beats CB with 8 in the box = easy TD. That fade to Moore was awful, bad call and bad throw.

It really did. Bell and Blount are going to be pounders.

I'm digging the lighter Le'veon. The guy was never a true pounder and even dropping a few he's still going to be a big back that can use his body to lean and grind for those extra yards. The guy had great feet to begin with and they look even quicker this year. I'm on board.

Bell and Blount looked good.

The Oline...not really. I would have played the starters the entire first half. They need the work.

If Bell doesn't break that first tackle in the backfield this whole thing is in a different light. The Giants aren't a good team. I would describe the Oline as poor last night.

But Bell did. I think even Nick had an orgasm when he did, too.

Team looks like its ready to run with violent intentions. Very excited.

backups --

i won't ultimately judge the run game until i see the starters play at least 1 half of football.

but from the 1 single drive I did see that last night, I was very encouraged --

the RBs are dramatically better, and the OL was getting decent push --

it is way too early to definitively judge either way -- but the starters clearly looked better this year than last year

starters got their ass handed to them down close.....small sample but thats a fact

More o line than Blount. And down close it was all Blount. Tomlin clearly trying him out in the Isaac Redman role.

that was pathetic playcalling in the redzone --

unfortunately Haley in mid-season form already

should have run play-action on 2nd down, not Blount up the middle 2 times in a row

Again, I really think the whole point was to see what Blount and o line could do with run being telegraphed. I know it's just my take, but I think it was the Isaac Redman drill.

There were some flashes...the RZ running was as bad as it ever has been.

I think the front line depth will be enough to make this a playoff team.

I think we don't go deep in the playoffs without more depth...the depth is fucking AWFUL.

Won't say much more than that because the Giants suck...but maybe this means at least we won't let inferior teams hang around and beat us this year.

Somebody objective needed to examine film of Blount's NFL career before they signed him to be a short yardage guy-- he's been below the line at it for his entire career. It's why his former NFL teams are his former NFL teams. To plug him into that role here, with this OL-- beyond stupid.

I can at least see some good things in Tomlin as a head coach-- HCs can be infuriating at times but he has something special, even though he's gets more conservative as time goes on. But every single snap I see from this offense and every bit of news/interview convinces me that our OC is even worse than I thought he was, particularly in terms of imagination, play design, offensive concepts. Our offense is incredibly boring and, in large measure, stupid. It's been this way for 2 years+ and nothing I've seen so far this year makes me feel more hopeful about that.

In contrast, our offense earlier in Ben's career had its warts but could be a thing of beauty. More importantly, it was scary to the defenses it faced. What on earth would they be scared of now? Two running backs who can be hard to tackle but who aren't threats to take it 60 yards, slow TEs who can't jump over a ream of paper and who lack body control to make plays on the football, a WR crew of one terrific player and a bunch of JAGs, and Ben running an offense that almost completely negates what made him great. They're going to be extremely hard to watch, even when they win.

I have to say I see nothing to argue with in this post.

I'll see if my mind changes when I can watch on a big screen.

The RZ play is like watching an old person try to open a jar of peanut butter. Aint happening very easily.

Totally agree. The lighter version of Bell reminds me a lot of a young Eric Dickerson.

RZ play I think is mostly personnel. I watched the highlights of most of the other 1st preseason games-- the teams successful in red zone have players who can make plays... witness the Chicago Bears TE who twisted and adjusted to zipped back shoulder throw between two defenders. We have the QB who can make that throw; we do not have the targets.
