Rogers was non-tendered by the Steelers after tearing his ACL in a playoff loss to Jacksonville. He visited with a number of other teams including the Browns and Chiefs, but ultimately decided he'd rather stay in Pittsburgh. Rogers impressed as a rookie with 594 receiving yards in 2016 but lost snaps to Martavis Bryant and JuJu Smith-Schuster last season. Still recovering from knee surgery, Rogers will likely begin camp on the PUP list.

Yawn.

Question is whether he still has to compete for a roster spot.
I would expect Hunter has the team pretty much made (somehow). I thought maybe DHB could be cut last year - is he really that irreplaceeable on ST?
Carrying 6 receivers isn't that big of a deal....but I pretty much hate the depth of Rogers, Hunter, DHB. Gotta do better than that on at least one of those guys.
And all that is assuming Washington is just going to step-in and produce right away.

rogers has to also beat out Tucker at this point.

I'd think it's more likely the case Tucker has to beat out Rogers
Tomlin talked about Rogers coming back months ago. I would guess, right now, he's got the best chance of a roster spot of the 4 mentioned here.

A one year prove it contract isn't bad. Dude already has an understanding of the offense has played decent in his time as a Steelers WR and more importantly provides solid competition in the WR corps for the younger up and comers. One or two of these players... Patterson, Henderson, Griffey, Jones, Tucker and Thomas all still have a real chance of making the roster IMO.

We need to trademarks this.
We could possibly even tattoo it on Frenchy Toussiant's chest

let the best man win the job be it a Vet or Rookie or UDFA.
Makes you wonder why he was signed as the Browns did not sign him with Josh Gordon out and Todd as OC.

Doesn't fit the vertical offense Todd wants to run....

If the Steelers carry 6 WRs on the 53, I will eat this post and change my own avatar to something embarrassing.
Jaylen Samuels is no worse than the 5th or 6th best receiving target on this team, and he is going to dress and get touches. It’s conceivable that Samuels would get work as the 4th WR. I think they have the top 3 WRs, then a backup slot and a backup deep threat. Rogers Tucker Hunter for two slots.

Yawn is fucking right. Maybe this “slot” receiver will learn to grab the tough ball over the middle. See regular season loss vs. Patriots; our final offensive play that game.

One year contract says it all. That is no ringing endorsement.
Eli has to pray for injuries to make this team while showing that he can stay healthy himself.
Also, I know people keep thinking that Fitchner is not going to change this offense much, really??
I don't make that assumption, maybe Randy is going to add so much new stuff, change some things that Eli Rogers is not going to have that much of an advantage knowing the offense over Tucker, Thomas, etc.
Hey, at least Moats went elsewhere so today has given me some good news.

I don’t mind Eli Rodgers. I don’t think a championship hinges on his presence or lack thereof. He’s a hedge for the new guys.
Thing I like about James Washington is he quietly took on that starting weakside wr role. It’s all a bit too quiet to me. I get the feeling they know they’re sitting on something here.
Because there’s usually some stupid competition/opportunity banter going on. We did get the requisite “learned my work ethic from the farm” post gazette story on JW.
But to come in here as a rook and immediately get slotted opposite AB with Ben slinging. Tells me this kids the real deal.

I’m completely over our WRs but for Brown and JuJu. The rest can just go away, along with the ghost of Todd fucking Haley. That asshole wasted one of the most potent offenses in the last 20 years because he’s a complete turdbag. Guys like Rogers can go away with him.

I don't get that hate for this, at least Rogers has produced a time or two. When is the last time Hunter or DHB have done that? If Tucker can beat him out that's great, but let the best man win. This team rode with 6 WRs last year, I'd be surprised if they don't again even with Fichtner as the new offensive coordinator.
