Big Ben blasts NFL Network's Ian Rapoport
.

by Bryan DeArdo 3h ago • 2 min read Update 2h ago

Ben Roethlisberger used his platform on 93.7 The Fan on Tuesday to get some things off of his chest with regard to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Roethlisberger was asked on his weekly show about Rapoport's report on Sunday morning that stated that Pittsburgh's quarterback has sustained cracked -- not bruised -- ribs during the Steelers' Week 14 loss to the Oakland Raiders.

"You shouldn’t even his name on this show, because anything he says, there’s no truth to it," Roethlisberger said of Rapoport, who also reported back in 2013 that Roethlisberger wanted to be traded to the Arizona Cardinals while being reunited with his former QB coach in Pittsburgh, Bruce Arians. "My wife texted me [about Rapoport's cracked ribs report] before the game when I was in the locker room. I don’t know where that guy gets his information, so I don’t want to give him any credence on this show.”

Big Ben also responded to some of the criticism he received earlier this month after he publicly challenged rookie receiver James Washington on his radio show. Washington, Pittsburgh's second round pick, led the Steelers with 65 receiving yards during Sunday's 17-10 victory over the New England Patriots.

"The national reporters, the ESPN talking heads, they think they know," Roethlisberger said, "but they really don’t know what’s going inside of our locker room."

Roethlisberger is right. Everyone can have an opinion with regard to what they think is transpiring within Pittsburgh's locker room, but they really have no idea. Even the local Pittsburgh media that covers the team and has much better insight into the true pulse of the team doesn't know exactly what is happening behind closed doors. Simply put, unless you're a player or coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers, what is happening behind closed doors is anyone's guess.

That's why, in the midst of all of the Le'Veon Bell "drama" that was transpiring earlier this season, Big Ben said that, while everyone on the outside assumed that Bell's situation was creating division within Pittsburgh's locker room, the fact of the matter was that the Steelers really didn't care sans the first Wednesday of the regular season when Bell decided to forgo the start of the regular season. Beyond that day, Bell really hasn't been a thought in Pittsburgh's locker room.

When it comes to Rapoport, the new trend among "big time" national media members is tweet out a big story in the early hours of an NFL Sunday morning in order to generate television and page views along with re-tweets and aggregation. This is all fair game (fellow NFL national reporter Adam Schefter does it all the time) as long as it's accurate. When it's not, as what was apparently the case with regard to Rapoport's report of Big Ben's ribs, players -- rightfully -- get upset, as Roehtlisberger opted not to hold back when asked about Rapoport's report on Tuesday morning.

Nice to see players using their platforms to hold these hacks accountable for their bullshit.

Is Ben's show a call in show? If so, some Pittsburgh-area Steeler Fury member should call in and introduce Ben and the audience to the nickname "Crapreport"

Bryan DeArdo needs to edit his scribing better. Reads like a 3rd grade book report. No offense to 3rd graders intended.

Aditi Kinkhabwala is the beat reporter for NFL Network. She has been complimentary at times, but apparently she is close with Todd Haley, so she might be the source for some of the pro-Haley reports and criticisms of Ben/Tomlin.

Is she "close" with both Mr. and Mrs. Haley?

Steelafan,

I subscribe to Steeler Insider for Wex and a guy names Heinzsight has to be a former coach with his knowledge of the team.

My point is this Bryan DeArdo and Sam Quinn must know someone for them to get that gig.

The are factless click bait garbage that I have seen 17 year olds write better pieces about sports.

Complete garbage and they get paid to do it.

I am not a big fan of Steeler Depot and Behind the Steel Curtain because if you dont agree with his viewpoints it seemed like his posse would destroy you and leave you bleeding for the vultures to finish you off with.

I forget who it was. but a sports talk radio host had Rappeport stand him up two times on his show. One time in the middle of an interview Rappaport said he had another call and had to go. Hung up on him. The host flipped the fuck out and what a tool Rappaport is, unprofessional, blah blah blah. I heard the clip. It was hilarious.

247 Sports bought Wex's site. They were at 247 Sports before the purchase. I agree they don't add any value. They read stories and then re-report them, like Steelers Depot.
