If winston was that good as Andrew F seems to think why could he not find a teams to start for?

He’s not “that good”. He’s a turnover prone passing machine that is really bad in a lot of ways, and really good in others.
Or pretty much what you want as a backup QB. That list of available back ups gets really damn short when folks start getting nit picky about what they require in a back up.

If we can’t afford him, so be it. If he didn’t want to play for us, so be it. But I’m sitting here on the edge of my seat wondering what in the hell the plan is for backup. I’ll give Mason a slight edge to Duck, but both really aren’t backup material. I hope the Steelers aren’t holding on to Mason because of that dumb wasted draft pick.Winston finished his fifth year setting new career highs, leading the league in passing yards, completions, and attempts to go along with new career highs in passing touchdowns but also leading the league in interceptions and total turnovers. He finished with 5,109 passing yards, 33 passing touchdowns, one rushing touchdown, 30 interceptions, and five lost fumbles.[96] Winston's seven pick-6s set an NFL record, and his 84.3 passer rating ranked 27th among starters.

But due to changes in the passing rules, it’s much easier to play QB now compared to Ben’s first five years. Thus the same numbers demonstrate a worse performance.Mick wrote: ↑Wed Apr 29, 2020 8:16 pmhis int% / td% / y/a stats are about in line with Ben’s over his first five years, albeit with Winston throwing a lot more.Jobu wrote: ↑Wed Apr 29, 2020 5:08 pmYes...yes I did watch Mason and Duck. Y’all are funny. Is Winston a great QB? Hell no. Is he capable of leading an offense to score touchdowns? Yes he is. Did you watch Mason and Duck last year? God help us if that is the depth chart next season.
In 5 seasons, 72 games and 70 starts, Jameis has thrown 88 interceptions. He’s also committed 50 fumbles, losing 18. That’s 106 turnovers he’s been personally responsible for...and with a bad bounce or three, could’ve been more. The guy is not good...he’s just not. Rudolph and Hodges are bums, but bums come in all shapes and sizes. Jameis Winston is every bit the bum, and not much of an upgrade...if any.
If you think he’s coachable, i like him. If you dont think he is, then its a ‘no’.
This. QB stats are better across the board since 2004.

If the Steelers were interested in Winston it was so he could work with the defense to improve their turnover ratio!
Come on - Winston sucked with the Bucs and sucked at FSU! Mason's a better back-up, cheaper and room to improve

I watched most of JW's games last year and from a physical standpoint he has all the tools you'd want in a starter, much less backup. His problem is from the neck up. He either doesn't think or thinks he's capable of things he's not, makes really poor decisions throughout the game and has some Wild Thing (Ricky Vaughn) in him.
When he's on, he can really make some beautiful throws.
I wouldn't mind him as a backup for the right price. I thought I read he was signing with NO for $3.5M. If so, I would find a way to pay that and see if a real QB coach could take a year and correct his issues and make him more of a game manager. If properly trained/taught he could possible be made into a sort of late bloomer and a real starting NFL QB. I never thought I would be saying that about him from watching him at FSU and firsts few years. Didn't like him at all then. But everyone has a number and for him mine would be $4M, especially where Ben is career-wise.
Just my two cents...

IIRC, when he first came into the league, they were praising his football smarts. How he had a notebook as a 12-13 year old and took notes, studied film, and carried the practice through college. They even showed pictures of his H.S. notebook, suggesting his football knowledge even as a H.S. freshman were at the college level. etc etc. Not disagreeing with you. . . just that the few things I remember about him when he entered the NFL.
Arguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon. No matter how good you are, the pigeon is going to shit on the board and strut around like it won anyway.
I'm not saying he's not smart enough, more so his decision making process.CORE-TEN wrote: ↑Thu Apr 30, 2020 4:36 pmIIRC, when he first came into the league, they were praising his football smarts. I just read he signed for $1.1M (with incentives if Brees goes down and he plays a lot). Said he wanted to go there to learn from the best in Brees and Payton.

So many of these stupid trade rumors are just an internet version of the old "telephone" game.
"The 49ers reach out to the Steelers about trading for Juju" becomes
"The 49ers and Steelers are in discussions for a Juju trade" becomes
"The Steelers are actively shopping Juju"
It's goddamn annoying that people keep quoting random internet blogs as a source of truth.
