This time Brady Retires
Re: This time Brady Retires
Romo is currently getting taken out for saying something.
Brady could be Jim Nantz's new best friend.

I apologize in advance. Trubisky.
ALMOST saying the uh N word.
Am I the only one who thinks listening to Romo is the equivalent of being trapped next that braying drunk in the sports bar who NEVER stops talking*
None of those announcers ever stop talking, at least with Romo he SOMETIMES analyses the game rather than saying how huge a fan of Rhianna he is.
Bring back humorless, accountant-like Dan Fouts.

Romo didn't used to be like this.
His first 2 years he was a breath of fresh air. He was all analysis and his commentary was sporadic enough and he chose his spots.
Now it's like the producers told him that everyone wants to hear him talk so he keeps doing it. I blame the Execs vs Romo on this change
If your theory is correct, Romo is executing his new assignment in an overly enthusiastic, ineffective fashion. LolDeebo wrote: ↑Thu Feb 02, 2023 7:30 pmRomo didn't used to be like this.

Well if you are going to employ the metric used to determine the WP in baseball, I can not argue.Baltostiller wrote: ↑Thu Feb 02, 2023 6:23 pmPickett Started, played into the 3rd quarter and had the lead when he got knocked out of the game. 0-1 vs Pickett.

I propose we pool resources and see whether it’s possible to madlib Tony out of trouble.

Has Tony been hanging out with the ole Lynch Meister???
“The extra yards! The tough yards! The finish on the play! Right there! You got three nipples right there, look Jim!“

They're going to kill him off, like he fumbled his career away.
"On his latest podcast, New York Post sports media writer Andrew Marchand said members of CBS management spoke with Romo last year in an effort to bolster his pre-game preparation. His rough performance this season, and especially during the playoffs, indicate their efforts didn’t pay off."

What's the odds of San Fran talking him out of retiring for at least a few games to start next season until their QBs are healthy enough to fill both their 2 spots and then he winds up playing the whole season?
Howard Griffith had to resort to chop-blocking him during the 1997 AFC Championship Game. An incredulous Kirkland asked Griffith, “Why do you have to use cheap tactics like chop-blocking?” Griffith replied “Why do you have to be a 300-pound linebacker?”
As someone who has enjoyed Romo in the booth for a few years, I've probably watched/heard 95% of his called games. My first thought watching the call live was...."“The extra yards! The tough yards! You got three near misses (i.e. he caused three missed tackles(3 tacklers together right there))!"Professor Half Wit wrote: ↑Thu Feb 02, 2023 9:21 pmNeeds its own thread.

It's just how he verbally delivers those situations. I can't tell you how many times I've heard him explain a play like this and use the words "almost there", but say it in a grunting, truncated way, like...."al..... there" and cut it off to add drama, if you will. I've heard him use the terms "near, just, almost and many others like these in this exact type of commentating situation.
I don't for a second think he was going to say the "n" word, like so many are speculating.
But, in today's world, everything is about race -- even when it's actually not.
CBS probably started shooting him up with meth before games. Explains the new commentary style and gaffes all at once.Professor Half Wit wrote: ↑Thu Feb 02, 2023 9:21 pmNeeds its own thread.

I can understand why people freaked out, however.
From the clips I’ve heard, the syllable sounds like “nih” as in “knit”. Not the sound in “near.”

Prof, any negative feelings within my response was not meant towards your comment -- more so in the general idea, in today's world, of how a guy NOT saying a word can be blown up into something this big.Professor Half Wit wrote: ↑Fri Feb 03, 2023 2:02 amI doubt Romo is some racial-epithet spewing bigot. If anything, I appreciate your humorous attempt to back Romo here.
Like you joke about, there are literally dozens of words (hell, maybe over 100) he could've been legitimately trying to say in his gravely, truncated delivery. On every offensive play there are normally 10-11 black men trying to tackle/hit/block/punish a QB/RB/FB/TE/WR (not to even mention D & ST). Throughout his career, Romo has described those plays maybe 5-10K times without ever using the "n" word, and this time when he starts to say a word that begins with the letter N and decides to truncate it -- like he does multiple times a game with lots of different words, a bunch of folks decide, all of the sudden, what he was actually saying was the "n" word.
I had the game recorded and went back and played it multiple times, and sorry, I'm not buying the crap they're selling.
They should have a "min 2 gams" requirement. This list is fucking stupidlanger wrote: ↑Fri Feb 03, 2023 12:15 pmTony Romo, the announcer who says "Ni".

Troy Aikman when doing a local radio interview is excellent. He's highly intelligent. Gives very thoughtful, very in depth, and seemingly genuine answers. He dumbs down the game broadcasts. Wish he wouldn't.

As a pitt fan i guess i should be a marino supporter,
But it really feels out of place to have him that high on the list. 1x league MVP 0x superbowl winner?
The dolphins had two 5-year stretches of good offense with him, and totaled 4 seasons where they finished top 4 in scoring. It’s not like Miami was devoting all their resources to defense in the Marino era either. Brady, for comparison, posted a top 4 scoring offense…13 times? Including 9 seasons in a row at one point.

That list is stupid. They are awarding SB losses, not wins. If that's the case, then Jim Kelly should be on that list. And what's the metric? Super Bowl performance? Then Bradshaw definitely needs to be on that list.
The only guys on that list that deserve it are brady, montana, manning, and elway. Who else? Bradshaw, BR, Jim Kelly, Staubach, Bob Griese, Troy Aikman, and maybe Jim Plunkett and/ or favre.

Arguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon. No matter how good you are, the pigeon is going to shit on the board and strut around like it won anyway.
If Peyton Manning, Johnny Unitas, and Dan Marino are on this list then it sure as hell doesn't reflect their performance in the Super Bowl itself. All 3 were straight ass in Super Bowl appearances.jewelsongs wrote: ↑Fri Feb 03, 2023 2:15 pmGreat Monty Python quote, and Terry should be in the list instead of Favre, Rodgers, or Young.

Jim Kelly going to 4 straight is some feat. But in those 4 games....2 TD 7 INTs
Stauback had some post season career. 4 SB's 2-2 record. Unfortunately he had to face the greatest team ever, twice.
13-7 post season record. 8 TD 4 INT in super bowls. 100+ QB rating in 3 of those games.
