I don't give a damn if people think I'm a bad person or whatever, it hasn't been that long ago when separating the receiver from the ball and preventing the catch like he did here was a GREAT play. In today's NFL, he's supposed to either stand there and catch the guy, potentially hurting him self or let him catch it and fly by where he has the chance to get up and run for a TD. That's what the NFL has become. You have to let the receiver catch it and not touch them until they see you or if you're blocking, let the guy make a tackle if he isn't looking right at you and has plenty of time to stop or run around you. Then when you are tackling or blocking, don't let your head touch any part of their body and definitely don't touch their head. It's no wonder why so many guys aren't blocking or tackling. Push him out of bounds or stand in his way instead of blocking. That's about all that's legal. I really don't know how more defenders don't get hurt trying to tackle and not get flagged. I'm not going to be surprised if Pickens says he didn't block on that play at the end zone because he was afraid of getting a flag.

Howard Griffith had to resort to chop-blocking him during the 1997 AFC Championship Game. An incredulous Kirkland asked Griffith, “Why do you have to use cheap tactics like chop-blocking?” Griffith replied “Why do you have to be a 300-pound linebacker?”

Not only did he hit with his shoulder. He "tackled" the ball. Textbook!
Not his fault the ball was caught/held at Pitman's shoulder level. Much different if Kazee hit him high or launched when the ball was low.
It's his job to "tackle" the ball there. He has every right to go for the ball there. It's called defense for a reason. Defend the player from catching the fucking "rock". He did!

Being Ejected was a terrible call
I agree it was a harsh call. But why even go there? He had already launched into a player earlier in the game and we know that the NFL is trying to turn the game into 2 hand touch. Kazee is still playing like it is 2003.
This is 100% BAD COACHING. We may not like the rules but we have to adjust to them. Our head coach embraces the physical element of the game. That's great but he doesn't embrace the cerebral element. Coach your players not to launch at receivers.
Play the BALL. How many times have we seen Kazee take bad angles this year because he's not playing the ball properly? It's fundamentals too.

I agree, Franco. And, as for this play, it's not like the league just decided it's going the flag football route (for WRs especially) this weekend or something. He's known what he can/can't get away with for years -- yet. Don't get me wrong, I wish the it wouldn't go this way, but it is and has been for some time now.franco32 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 17, 2023 2:53 pmI agree it was a harsh call. But why even go there? BTW, I posted this about Kazee the day we signed him....

Kazee was good early on, then his head got big and he started taking WAY too many chances -- getting burned, being out of position and missing a ton of tackles, too. I've watched him plenty.
If he's learned his lesson (I'll be surprised if he has), then great. If not, you guys are going to be breaking some household shit over his complete stupidity at times.

It's official. It's illegal if it looks bad, objectivity be damned.
The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently.

Commenting on an ESPN SportsCenter Instagram post on the news, Brady felt that hard hits like the one Kazee made happen are on quarterbacks and coaches to make sure these moments don’t happen:
“Nobody likes seeing players get hurt. But hard hits happen. QBs should not be throwing the ball in areas where they are exposing their own teammates to these types of hits. Coaches need to coach better, QBs needs to read coverages and throw the ball to the right places and defenders should aim for the right hitting areas. To put the blame on the defense player all the time is just flat out wrong. Need better QB play!! It’s not OK QBs to get your WRs hit because of your bad decisions!”

He's not wrong, I don't think Kazee was going for a hit right away, I think he committed to going for an interception because this ball was floated into no mans land. Minshew did that a few times Sunday, he almost got Pittman killed a few times, this time he just happened to do it in front of a safety who came straight down.RemoAZ wrote: ↑Tue Dec 19, 2023 3:24 amDamnit! Not sure why the Mendenhall thread was locked but this is too good not to share. A guy having fun with what he said. Much better than getting pissed at a moron.

He made the only play he could to defend the catch, and he did it without lowering his helmet.
So one of the following has to be true:
1) It was a legal play
2) if a receiver is diving for a ball you have to let them catch it without defending them.
I guess as of now, its #2.
