I guess I don’t get the logic some of you have excusing Pickens because he has bad coaches:

I’ve had a couple bad principals during my time
I didn’t pout or mail it in and just show movies all day.

Students count on me to do my job so that’s what all of us do as professionals right?

We do our jobs to the best of our ability because that’s what we get paid to do.

Don’t get why Pickens is the exception here.

Pickets probably ran more complicated stuff at Georgia, was probably more communicated with at Georgia.

Then he gets here, and as a football guy (same with Najee), they are introduced to Matt Canada and his high school offense. They aren't talked to, there is no detail in what they are doing, the work ethic of the team is not at all what they are used to, Matt Canada has that stupid hat on during preseason, Mike Tomlin doesn't seem to work, ever. The offensive line has guys switching positions for no reason, then some of those guys go to other teams and suddenly look great... at their old position.

During the season, you start losing games, you start seeing the same pointless plays being called again and again, your easily covered by 2 or 3 guys because they know exactly where you are going, they are laughing at you... calling the play out right in front of you. You don't see any adjustment from the coaching staff, hell they don't even talk like its a problem... it's just "execution". You talk to a few guys from college, all with much difference experiences in their coaching staff and what they are doing on offense.

You finally see the idiot in the stupid hat get fired, but nothing really changes... there is no time.. it's too late to change the high school offense, and the guys who took over are pretty much the same.

You take routes off, you don't block... what's the point, the whole thing is a rudderless ship... the players know, this is clueless coaching staff, demanding "execution" to cover for their failing attempt of running an NFL team.

You can only ask someone to take so much shit before they find a way to have an equilibrium. If it is a "fuck it, this sucks" attitude, that's what will happen. Most likely if Pickens were on a team with Ben things would be different. At least he'd have someone advocating on his side and managing expectations and personality.

I've said it for years that the team needs a squad of sports psychologists to correct things.

I look at both Coach and Rooney and can see why that hasn't happened. They're just low-IQ and low-EQ people. idiots. We're not talking progressive thinkers that can deal with the psychology of athletes.

They can bullshit all day long though.

How about this...the reason AB didnt lose it all those years wasn't Coach but Ben. There is no one on the offense that has that kind of stature. Maybe they thought Mitch would be that guy. Idiots.
I'll offer a slight correction to the bolded. It wasn't Ben the Man who kept AB in line. It was Ben the QB who could put the ball in places that no other QB could for AB.
Remember when Ben was out with injury and AB flipped over the water cooler? He got sick of not getting the ball. Ben always fed him (sometimes to the detriment of the team)

Different breed I think, and when millions of dollars for your next contract are on the line, and you see no hope because an idiot in a cowboy hat is jawboning on the sideline like a big deal when he literally knows nothing, it's gotta be a bitter pill to swallow. i think langer's point about Ben is right, but moreso is that Ben had built a resume that he could say "fuck you Matt" and basically draw things up on the spot, which he often did at the end of games near the end of his career.

The quickest way to right this ship is for a football person to make all coaching staff hires, and make a lot of them this offseason. Mike Tomlin will either have to work in that system where management has more confidence in the people they've selected or he can accept a trade. It's a certainty now, his coaching hires are a disaster, so he loses that control.

Make sure whomever comes in understands the philosophy is a modern offense who will utilize its weapons instead of utilizing family members of teammates. Then we can start finding players in the draft to match that, from running backs to wide receivers to even a quarterback... but let's see what those position groups can actually do with a modern offense.

And this makes some sense because when did AB turn against Ben and start losing his shit?

When Ben stared feeding JuJu more to what AB perceived as to his detriment.

And then it blew up in the Denver loss where Ben blamed the INT on Brown not running his route correctly (I have watched that play a hundred times and think AB was right to be upset…Ben just didn’t expect that the guy Pouncey was blocking…who made the pick…would be able to get his hand up and pick it off. Ben needed just a touch more arc on the ball and it probably gets through to AB).

Not saying your comment was directed at me. But just to be clear, I've stated that I don't agree with how Pickens is acting (like you, I was taught to do my job to the best of my ability because that’s what I got paid to do). I do think the excuses/reasons I gave are probably why he's acting that way, though.

I know for fact Pickens saw a TON of detailed structure at UGA; I mean a TON. I bet it's a far cry from that under Tomlin -- you know, the coach that said he doesn't get into details, and tells players to figure it out for themselves. Couple that with what he probably sees as a sub-college level offensive scheme, and I think that's what you get with a guy like him (someone who probably needs a ton of structure).

And pouting like a baby while taking countless plays off helps this issue above how exactly??

If true, it just makes Pickens an even bigger idiot.

Free agency is right around the corner for the guy. If he is really worried bout his future dollars he should be putting together great tape.

Tape showing him doing things like blocking for his RB while they score a TD and running great routes even though he didn’t get the ball.

His approach (if true) makes his situation worse not better.

He could also play his ass off and at some point say he wants to be traded.

Doing this shows he’s an immature child with low character
Jibba Jabber’s offense hasn’t scored more than 7 1st quarter points in 84 consecutive games. An NFL record by far. A historic amount of “easin in”. We are lucky to have him.

I don't trade him unless I get a high pick until I get a new coaching staff to work with him. I still say there's talent on this team a new coach can win with after a solid off season.
Yep, I agree. I sit him down and tell him that a new OC is coming in the off season and that to suck it up and play hard to impress the new guy when he looks at film. The new guy will decide if he stays or goes all depending on what we can get for him. Would not do anything less than a high 2nd round pick. As it is right now, I would bench him for the first half of the game with a stern warning for high energy and solid play or he will be inactive the rest of the way - not the outcome you want to show the new OC. If I can't get a high draft pick for him, he rots as an inactive all next year so he won't be able to showcase any skill for later down the road.

It doesn't, but the guy doesn't know what he doesn't know. I don't think he knows how to help exaclty. He's not being molded into a man as much as one might think.

I would say, the change that is easiest is to give him a football person who can build an offense... not an idiot in a cowboy hat who got there because he recruited the head coaches son, that would be step 1.

....or just give up on him now, which sure is the easy way - but a terrible use of assets. They gave up on Dotson to, shipped his malcontent ass out, and then the idiots that traded for him simply flipped him back to his old position and he became a rock solid starter for them.

Of course he won’t…Shades did him a solid by giving his JAG younger brother a job when very likely, no one else would have.
His JAG younger brother has made more plays this year than George Pickens.

Quitting on the team and not showing up for practice all week and expecting to play against Cinci was even dumber or stupider or stupiderer. However you prefer to phrase that.

Either Tomlin has to go or Pickens will.

That’s just how it is.

Pickens is not redeemable in this current environment.

I trade Pickens, not because of his attitude, but because we can get something of value and he's wasted here. Everyone is piling on him for his attitude, but he's a young, hungry guy playing for a leader that's checked out and an offense suited for youth football. This is ultimately costing him money on contract 2. Just a poor landing spot for him. Put him on just about any other team and you're talking about a pro bowler.

Offer him to the Texans. They have 2 first rounders I believe so maybe we can entice them to part with one of those or a 2nd or 3rd rounder. Pairing Stroud and Pickens would be a sight to watch. Right now the guy is catching soft toss from Pickett.
I don't think that any team in the NFL would give a warm cup of piss for Pickens right now. Why the fuck would you want this diva/cancer/loafer in your locker room.

Seems like there is always at least one coach/team/organization that thinks they can fix a player like Pickens. But I think that anyone hoping for a quality trade return (if it happens) is being overly optimistic.

If I'm the Bills, I'm all over Pickens. They've got cap problems and probably can't fit all their WR's. Here is a WR on a cheap contract that will get a ton of targets and likely be much happier vs his current situation.

If I'm the Bills, I'm all over Pickens. They've got cap problems and probably can't fit all their WR's. Here is a WR on a cheap contract that will get a ton of targets and likely be much happier vs his current situation.
Bills are a good shout. Texans could use him. Hell, even the Chiefs could use him.

I would say a majority of WRs are lunatic malcontents.

Cam is just a puppet of Tomlin. That dude will never step out of line, for better or worse.
Of course he won’t…Shades did him a solid by giving his JAG younger brother a job when very likely, no one else would have.
His JAG younger brother has made more plays this year than George Pickens.
I would hope, he gets about triple the targets it seems

He also is on film blocking players and punts. It is amazing what someone can do when they put in effort for the team. Pickens owes Jaylen Warren a TD basically. If he just keeps pushing a little or just stays in contact Warren has the edge and scores.

Also, he probably realizes that IF he doesn't get traded that his plan may cause another secondary reaction that helps his cause -- getting MT removed (traded/fired/retired) from his future money problem equation!

That's what I think he's doing, as he see's them as options with lesser downside, and quicker results, than the status quo he's been dealing with. I could wrong.

If Pickens is smart enough to have put in motion a plan to get Tomlin replaced with an offensive minded HC, then I will rethink my position on George.
