Tomlin gone? - Florio claims Tomlin will discuss future with family after season
If this is true, it’s time.
If he’s thinking of retiring/moving on, he’s already mentally checked out. He needs to move on and so do the Steelers.
Of course, this may just be a Tomlin bloviating, but I remain hopeful.

If Rooneys don’t give him an extension, he’d be a lame duck this season.

I wonder what up no extensions yet something not right
Smart guy. Realizes he's basically maxed out the potential of the roster while also completely botching the most important position in sports with no hope of it significantly improving for at least another year or two.
I can see him pulling a Sean Payton.

My guess is Art2 is putting a little pressure on him. And Tomlin might be looking for a bigger pay check.
Secure NHALS early and then go deep into the PLAYOFFS.

Tomlin is going to talk to his family after the season and take their temperature on things after 17 years in the league and Pickett Trubisky and Rudolph
???????

Thank god... The stupid POS damn near cost us this season keeping Mason on the bench.
He pissed away Roeth's career. Good riddance

I can see this happening also. His ego is such that the criticism he was finally hearing this season had to make him bristle. He’s been told by just about everyone in the MSM and NFL for the last 17 years that he is God’s gift to coaching. I think he actually believes it. How dare anyone criticize him and his awful decision-making after 17 years of NHALS?
This may just be a negotiation tactic, and Tomlin posturing for a big raise. Or maybe he already has his next job lined up and is floating these talking points out there to start the ball rolling on his exit from the Steelers. Perhaps he takes a job in broadcasting, or maybe he just takes the year off. Who knows?
I would be surprised if he leaves the Steelers he takes another coaching job, though. He’d be much better suited for a network gig.
I just know I’d rather see him anywhere but on the Steelers sidelines next season.
Mike Tomlin and NHALS - The embodiment of the soft bigotry of lowered expectations.
My money remains that this is a negotiation tactic and he's simply trying to drive up costs.
He's had his buddies in the media talking about all these teams around the league who would want him if he was available. Now it's that he may walk away. Art II is a big enough of a clown to believe it all.

I think Tomlin put this story out there as a hissy fit.
He's pissed because firing Canada came from above, that was his favor hire for a friend who helped his son, and he's pissed that the organization as a whole forced the change.
It hurt his ego... and the sad part is he's going to reap the rewards because the offense is now doing more modern things, and it's showing up on the field.

You're right CK, as soon as he was taking heat his buddy was floating a boatload of rumors.
Season started with typical ballwashing, then Steelers need to move on, then MT is getting an extension, then NHALS he is best thing since sliced bread, then playoffs and the "thoughts are a waste of my time" guy needs to think about things, consult with wife about taking time off.... more BS.
I do believe his wife got butthurt. She didn't like it when her friends started asking if her husband was going to get fired/traded instead of praising his magnificent genius.

this is where i am at. No contract extension last offseason, plus all the forced changes, stubborness.......Tomlin knows he can drum up more cash either way. I hope he fucking walksToddHaleysNineIron wrote: ↑Sun Jan 14, 2024 12:57 pmI think Tomlin put this story out there as a hissy fit.

Boy, I don't know. I think they will regret not extending Coach T after he wins the SB this year. Mason, too.

Brian Flores will almost certainly be on the shortlist, and he'd also be my top choice to replace.
I wouldn't be surprised if Tomlin ended up stepping away. A lot of smoke, and 17 years or whatever is a long time.

I will believe it when I see it. Color me extremely skeptical. Like others, I firmly believe that this is a leverage play by Tomlin. Rooney will cave. He doesn’t have the balls to let Tomlin walk.
If Tomlin somehow does go, I doubt they go with Flores. I believe they will go with an up and comer with no NFL HC experience as they have the 3 preceding times in 50+ years.
Leftwich or Ejiro Evero are my guesses. If Tomlin does go, rest assured, Rooney will abide by The Rule and hire accordingly. The backlash would be tremendous if he didn’t …

What do you mean abide by the rule? I am sure that multiple candidates will be interviewed including minorities.
What does hire accordingly mean? Only a minority will be hired?

All of this posturing from MT tells me one thing: Deuce probably told him to 'win some playoff games this postseason or we're moving on from you'.
Of course Tomlin is going to have his lemming media buddies (who are more than willing to oblige) "spin" the narrative into what he wants/can control. Can't have a mediocre (or below) HC being fired (or not retained any longer); gotta be on his terms as he "controls the narrative".
Sad thing is that Deuce is probably spineless enough to go along with this charade. When it's all said and done, he'll acquiesce and say something like 'MT decided it was time to move on and we love him so much -- for what he's done for our organization, that we aren't going to stand in his way' or some bullshit misrepresentation like that.
It's sad. Although if it actually happens, I'll just be happy we finally moved on from him. Of course, until they hire another idiot that checks the boxes that seem so important to them -- which appear to have very little to do with winning in today's offensive-minded NFL! That's a problem for another thread, I guess.

I pray on all that is holy that Mike Tomlin decides to move on and I don’t give a single fuck on what that is as long as it’s not in our organization.
