Tomlin Staying - addresses contract - Rooney to Offer Extension

Post by DumlinBumlinStumlin » Tue Jan 16, 2024 8:56 pm

shakes head and say why!!

I know the reasons.

Now if Rooney thinks otherwise
Steelers coach Mike Tomlin has informed the team he will return for an 18th season in Pittsburgh.

Still yet to finish below .500 in 17 years on the job, Tomlin’s status was nevertheless in doubt amidst rumors he could seek an exit from the only team he’s ever known as a head coach. He will instead continue to prioritize the stability he has known in Pittsburgh and look to improve a coaching staff that had grown stale on offense under ex-OC Matt Canada. Tomlin’s biggest problem remains his post-Ben Roethlisberger quarterback play. Tomlin continues to do his job on his side of the ball while being one of the league’s most revered leaders. His return is good news for Steelers fans.

In a team meeting today, Mike Tomlin told #Steelers players the speculation about him stepping away is unfounded and he plans on coaching the team in 2024, sources say.

Tomlin, who is entering the final year of his contract, is expected to address the media later this week.

At least one more year of disappointment ahead.
Howard Griffith had to resort to chop-blocking him during the 1997 AFC Championship Game. An incredulous Kirkland asked Griffith, “Why do you have to use cheap tactics like chop-blocking?” Griffith replied “Why do you have to be a 300-pound linebacker?”

When I went to bed last night I pondered whether or not the sun was going to come up today. Now I know it rises daily and has for millions of years but still wondered if maybe tomorrow was the day the world would awake to total darkness.

Then thought nah, that’s silly. Just go to sleep. The sun will be there come morning.

Anyone who actually believed Jibbs was going to walk away from the cushes job in all of sports was out of their minds. Bat shit crazy if you will.

Obviously.

Dude, he looks so burned out?!? He's got nothing more to offer, a husk of a D coordinator, who's football philosophy works best in 2002, clearly is out of his league on the bigger stage.

Tomlin needs a break but he's too stubborn and arrogant to acknowledge it.

Mike Tomlin is a leader of men, you bigots!

I can't even enjoy the few players on the team who aren't assholes because they are Tomlin boys. TJ and Cam simping for Mike T today. I'm just kind of done with the organization until something chnages.

I will gladly take some losing seasons if it's to build towards something better than this shit.

But we are pounding our heads against the wall for nothing. Art II loves him some Mediocre Mike.

"But we are pounding our heads against the wall for nothing. Art II loves him some Mediocre Mike."

Seemingly, he does.

But why is that?

Art II fancies the organization as a beacon of stability, enjoying all the praise from the national sports media, for lowering the Steelers standard, by keeping a dinosaur of a HC employed, who has no long term plan of progressing the team, to a championship level?

Oh I’m not disputing that. However, he has no pressure from above and a media that showers him with praise no matter the results.

Given what he’s being paid combined with little to no pressure from the owner it’s as cush a gig a HC at this level could get.

So why walk away from that?

His ego won’t let him walk away from that.

Soooo, a given he was coming back.

That’s good news. Glad Coach T is returning. I think Mason is capable and hope he returns too. Even with the devastating impact and 14 point swing with that INT, Rudolph had the right attitude and poise in the face of that adversity. There were a ton of Steeler injuries to contend with and, despite the next-man-up response, we just weren’t ready to a Bills caliber opponent. Also, falling behind by 21 after the INT took the Steeler run attack out of the equation.

Mason was unfrazzled in the pocket and, in the second half, went toe-to-toe with Josh Allen. The Steeler secondary and ILB crew got exposed. I love some Patrick P but he’ll be 34 playing the 2nd toughest position on the field. He’d need to be an alien to perform at the level he did in Arizona and I’m not confident he can make a transition to safety.

Draft the best available players and trade to fill the areas of greatest need (center, punter, ILB, CB, DT).

Aside from center, the OLine looks good. The receivers look good. Rudolph with KP as #2 is good. KP is good in clutch, is more mobile than Rudolph, and protects the ball.

On the defense, there’s a ton of talent and Omar will fill the gaps. Hopefully they’ll be healthier next year.

For those criticizing Minkah, he missed that tackle trying to make a play for turnover. Myles Jack pulled up when Josh showed slide on one play but Josh didn’t slide. On another play, Josh did slide and despite avoiding the hit, he still got the flag. Shit happens.

With a day to process it, I feel better about where this team is and where it’s going.

Suwanee GA's own Cam Heyward stated that speculation and questioning of Tomlin's status in Pittsburgh created a distraction.

Sooo why wouldn't Tomlin have told the players he was staying IDK like before YESTERDAY!

This fucking team.

Thank God Braves spring training just around the corner.

Gotta love the national media folks telling us Steeler fan peasants how lucky we are to have a coach that has had the franchise stuck in mediocrity for a decade.

Maybe Cam, the elder statesmen of the team, could have gotten them to focus on the task at hand rather than worrying bout offseason shit.

And as you said, Jibbs could have addressed the team as well.

This team, aside from a few players, is as mentally weak as I’ve ever seen.

One thing that has become crystal clear to me over the years...

Leader of men is highly overrated.

Give me a HC with the tag "teacher" or "innovator" or "strategist". I also like a HC who is a little bit surly (difficult to pull off today but these tend to be the better strategists in my experience).

I no longer believe in the Pittsburgh Steelers as an organization (been this way most of the season for me). I'm hopeful the next Rooney in line will change all that.

I'm having a similar experience with my basketball team. The FO changed. Meddling Jerry Jones of basketball owner got rid of the true legit basketball mind GM that they had and replaced him with a shoe saleman. They have a young superstar player but I'm not enjoying the team as much as I "should" because I know too much

I'll end with this...

Give Tomlin a roster similar to 2008. It's the only chance we have. Need to have the most dominant defense in the league and a QB who can make plays in the 4th.

I suppose Tomlin could still change his stripes but I gave up on him on our 1st drive in the 4th quarter in NO in 2018.
Throw. The. Football. On. First. Down.
