Why Can't They Stop The Run?
Why Can't They Stop The Run?
With all the Steelers problems, getting blown away by excellent rb's bothers me the most. I thought the team had improved the IOL in 2024?
Because they don't have good LBer play and that impacts their personnel.
If they go Nickel teams run the ball on them in passing formations. Queen is barely passable and while I like Wilson, he's too light in the ass to play the run.
If they go with their base the offense audibles to a pass. It's such an easy if/then counter as an offense.

Dogshit coaching.
“Thoughts are a waste of time for me.” - Michael Pettaway Tomlin
We definitely learned this year that Patrick Queen was a product of better defensive scheme and coaching as well as playing alongside Roquan Smith.
And why the Ravens weren't fussed over losing him.

Thanks for the above. I suspected as much & appreciate the confirmation from you three.
But the Steelers came running along and acted as if they just landed the second coming of Lambert.
Remember when the Winged God of Linebacking was crashing down on the guy without the football in the playoff game?
WTF was that?
WTF was that?

James Farrior was playing in this game?
Obliteration Is Imminent
I forgot he was the Winged God. If a guy retires, can he still be called a Winged God?

Exactly. Seemed like 1/2 the year the tv broadcast kept mentioning Tomlin talking to Queen,….”you’re not a Raven”…. Bla blah blah. He looked like a fart in the wind. Because coaching. We do what we do! What we do is get our asses handed to us when it matters most. Connell with scheming, actually coaching, creativity and the like. Well line up and get literally run over.
Fuck this coach. Fuck this old Rooney turd as well.

Queen had one good game.
The 1st game against the Ravens this year he played well.
Otherwise for a supposed big free agent seems like a disappointment.
When he was with the Ravens I first thought he was an in-the-box type of safety that wasn’t good at coverage.
Now I realize he is an “MT” (has similarities with Mike Tomlin) Linebacker. Talks a better game than he plays.

I think the D-line fucking sucks along with being on the field way to much equals getting run over.

Okonjobi and Adams have to be replaced.
The Ravens were trotting out a FB and extra OL and using TE's against the Steelers nickel formation.
All this talk about this player or that player sucks. The players were set up to fail by a really, really shitty gameplan against Baltimore.
The stats were posted on here already. Steelers were putting themselves at a complete disadvantage against heavy sets throughout the entirety of the game.
This is the highest paid defense in the league. I'm not saying they are the most talented, but they aren't bereft of talent, either. It was schematic failure against Baltimore.

This - not saying that the players didn't have bad games or make mistakes but the scheme didn't help. We've seen / heard over and over from other team’s players that the Steelers D scheme is predictable.CKSteeler wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2025 5:54 amThe Ravens were trotting out a FB and extra OL and using TE's against the Steelers nickel formation.

And they will be.
DeMarvin Leal and Isaiah Loudermilk step right up.
Standard is the standard.
You'd think Deuce HAD to have heard all the analysts laughing at how predictable and unprepared the Steelers have been in the playoffs.Stillerz Bar wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2025 6:44 amThis - not saying that the players didn't have bad games or make mistakes but the scheme didn't help. You'd think that would bother him. But like the old fart he is he stubbornly refuses to admit reality.
This team is now held hostage by the frivolous pursuit of Tomlin and Deuce to be able to say "told you so".
It's all of the above:
1. Horrific coaching and scheme
2. Weak Dline where Benton is not a real NT.
3. Queen is very mediocre. I actually question Omar at this point. We paid MORE for Queen that the Commanders paid for Luvu...who's better?

I too have soured on Khan
But
Omar doesn’t wipe his ass without Tomlin’s say so
Queen signing has Tomlin written all over it
I’m sure there’s video somewhere of Queen and Tomlin yapping it up during past Ravens games
Couple Alpha tough guy wannabes
Nick Markakis on Astros: "Every guy over there needs a beating."
Khan is the cap and deal guy. He just goes and gets the players Tomlin and Weidl tell him to. I'm sure he has some say, but when it comes to FA his control is probably mostly confined to setting spending limits. Probably doesn't even have an equal say. At least 80% of the roster decisions are on Tomlin and Weidl. Colbert was proven. Weidl is proven. That leaves Tomlin as clearly the problem.
No one is going to look as good here as elsewhere because our schemes limit their ability to make plays. Every "splash" play is the result of individual effort. Simple, predictable schemes are a great way to neutralize an advantage in talent.

I know that someone was been saying this is the MFing problem with this defense. I remember for sure saying it in the early podcasts around the draft and after Queen was signed.Deebo wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2025 3:25 pmBecause they don't have good LBer play and that impacts their personnel.

Steelers play so vanilla and have such pigeonholes for each member of the squad, the offense can simply throw in the MOF vs base and run vs nickel. The lack of versatility of their LBs and NCB is the major reason for this. Playing Minkah 5 nautical miles off the ball also contributes to this issue.
“We are the stupidest fucking franchise ever.” — Smithessmokin
I also think some blame should be put on Mike Tomlin's gross, massive man tits.
The gravitational pull of his girthy, milky moobs consistently pulls the D towards our sideline, and our opponents just end up designing runs to the other side of the field. Been happening for years.

*reserves the right to roots for losses*
Why can’t we stop the run??
Maybe because the defense is worthless & weak.

to the initial thread question ….
because they are a poorly coached team with middling talent due to shitty drafts and favoritism for suck-ups
