Matt Williamson lays out some ugly stats
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Lg-Z4n8MQ ... ebQw%3D%3D
You know it’s been bad. Williamson goes through the stats to tell you HOW bad. This is worth the listen.
The Steelers are in Titans, Browns, Giants territory.
A few nuggets to whet your whistle.:
Over the last 17 games, the Steelers have gained an average of 100 yards less/game than their opponents. That’s dead last in the NFL.
This season:
No team has taken more snaps on defense.
No team has taken less snaps on offense.
This episode paints an ugly picture, and one I just cant see Tomlin surviving.
The man is inept. The entire coaching staff is a joke and the team is garbage.

Mike Tomlin and NHALS - The embodiment of the soft bigotry of lowered expectations.
the main stats are the the ones on TOs he mentioned. It's obvious Tomlin has devised a simple repeatable plan where the entire game hinges on TOs. he wins differential he mostly wins - he loses differential he always loses. Considering the luck factor involved in those numbed and his removal of all risk on controllable O-side ... what you get is .500 football and an O based solely on TOP. his giant failing IMO is the refusal to change when the game doesn't go according to Plan and banking on return to norm and a QB who can bail them out at the end.
This is all carefully crafted to be 9-8 and he has sold the Rooneys in the bullshit stance that the playoffs are a crapshoot

That's utterly insane to rely on something so out of your control to win most of your games.
The flip side of that is your offense fails to be able to compensate well enough when this stat doesn't fall your way.
Asinine way to coach.

Tomlin's methodology is to go crawl ball right out of the gate.
Keep it close, until the end and hope for good fortune in the form of defensive plays.
Kick the field goal to win.
Or if you have a Ben Roethlisberger, you get a boat load of come from behind wins.
We all know this.
What it does, is it allows him to do the least amount of preparatory work, each week, of any coach and coaching staff-
It lets him leave at 3pm on fridays- because he doesn't game plan for the individual team - with the exception of- they are strong inside, so we'll try to run outside. etc-
It's just garbage, and without Ben is trash

Yes, it's asinine. But as mentioned, it's the blueprint for NHALS. That's why I've been pounding the table when I say it's barely even a participation trophy. It might be impressive if you were also going deep in the playoffs regularly.AirRescueFF wrote: ↑Sat Dec 06, 2025 6:30 pmThat's utterly insane to rely on something so out of your control to win most of your games.

Tomlin is just coaching the team to a high floor (and the low ceiling that comes with it). It explains everything.
This is the differentiator and what more critics should mention. The formula that makes them 9-8 is also the thing that makes them 0-7 in playoffs..Kodiak wrote: ↑Sat Dec 06, 2025 8:36 pmYes, it's asinine. But as mentioned, it's the blueprint for NHALS. Playoffs are singular events with varied opponent approaches that do not necessarily average to a mean. And maybe more importantly formula approaches are exceptionally vulnerable to highly paid people devising a one-time plan.
And it’s all Obvious … the absurdity of the approach and the defense of it while blindly ignoring the flaw of the Approach is infuriating.
Cowher, while polite and non-judgemental, is the only one I have heard who has addressed the issue of the Approach

So what Mr. Williams is conveying to us is the fraudulent bullshit artist poser is The Bernie Madoff of the NFL.

He had a crutch that wore #7 at the office and covered his mistakes a whole lot.AirRescueFF wrote: ↑Sat Dec 06, 2025 6:30 pmThat's utterly insane to rely on something so out of your control to win most of your games.

#7's business was winning. The HC's business was and is being an anchor.
It's becoming difficult to know where to throw the latest anti-Tomlin spin or news so I'll just throw this here.
Steven Nelson was on a podcast and called the Steelers scheme ass today. Blamed it for Watt's down year. Said they've been running the same thing since before he got there and that he thought Austin sucked even as a DB coach.

Bu but but Jibba is a defensive mastermind. How can this be?CKSteeler wrote: ↑Sun Dec 07, 2025 5:34 amIt's becoming difficult to know where to throw the latest anti-Tomlin spin or news so I'll just throw this here.
