Tiebreakers

Post by Sir Lambert » Tue Dec 16, 2025 11:16 pm

What if Baltimore wins the rematch and there's a tie for 1st in the North?

The head-to-head would be split, so on to division record. If the Steelers lost to Cleveland and Baltimore, then the ravens would win that tiebreaker with a 4-2 division record vs 3-3 for Pittsburgh. But if the Steelers beat the browns and lose to the Ravens, that leaves both teams at 4-2 in the division.

Then it's common games. I haven't dug into that data yet. Since there are so many common opponents, it's easier to look at the games against uncommon opponents, and whoever did WORSE is the champion. I think each team will have played 3 games against opponents their division rival didn't play. Against the Seahawks, Chargers, and Colts, Pittsburgh is 1-2, so that's good. I don't know how bad Baltimore played against teams we didn't play.

1 thing seems certain, though. If the Steelers beat the Ravens in the rematch, then the Steelers win the division, no matter what else happens. Do I have that right? The worst we could do in that scenario is a tie for the division, and the Steelers would have the 2-0 sweep in the 1st tiebreaker.

common opponents seems to be
Steelers 3-3
Ravens 4-2
that assumes a Steelers loss to Lions -

lions - possibly both lost
bills - both lost
jets both won
vikings both won
miami both won
the kicker will be the bears .. steelers loss ravens win

if steelers somehow beat lions its 4-2 4-2

Check the current standings…

If the Steelers beat Baltimore, they’re in because they will have a better division record (even if they lose Cleveland). If they beat Cleveland, but lose to Baltimore, then it goes to common opponents. … and that’s too much to digest.

Ravens lost to chiefs, texans, and rams, so 0-3 against uncommons. We forked.
