Filliponi posits LaFleur and Malik Willis.
I can get behind that. That’s got potential from what I saw.
He does have issues getting over the hump like a certain Godlike former coach.

As a OC? Sure. I think he has a decent system.

For me right now,
(1) Rams’ LaFleur
(2) klint kubiak
(3) Cignetti (worth a shot)
(4) Aden Durde
(5) slowik/flores/harbaugh/burke/minter i wouldn’t hate.
Honestly browns probably had better roster than the steelers over last 5 years and somehow stefanski averaged about 4 fewer wins per year than tomlin.

Age disqualifies Cig, unfortunately. Having him coaching the Steelers and getting him out of the B1G would be a nice one-two punch.
Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile...

I would have zero issue if Kubiak was the guy and he hires the DC. Im just not sure its a given Schelhaase leaves for a HCing gig one year later but yes its a possibility.Steelperch wrote: ↑Wed Jan 14, 2026 2:19 amAnd Sheelchasse leaves after one year for a HC job and you’re stuck with another defensive coach and clueless on offense. You have to hire the offensive mind as HC today.Greeksteel wrote: ↑Wed Jan 14, 2026 12:46 amChris Shula HC with Nate Scheelhaase as his OC.

Maybe a hot take, but I’m feeling about 100% confident that neither steeler coordinator is going to be promoted after the 2026 season. I guess i could squint and see the defense having a great year, but i can’t homer goggles this offense being good.
QB play will be average or worse, WR group will be below average, OL will be below average, and we don’t have a premier RB or TE.

I don’t think we’re going to find out Mike LaFleur’s interview list until after practice tomorrow when he does his zoom interviews
Not sure if this was being tracked.

B.Flores (D)
N.Scheelhaase (O) - potential OC?

They have already stated they do not want former HCs ( at least to start) They are following the Rooney secret sauce recipe by looking at young DCs the most.

Let's go offense. I'm in favor of bringing in both Kubiaks, Klint as HC (so might take awhile) and Klay as OC.
And while we're at it, work out a trade for Mac Jones...he was very good coming out of Alabama as 15th overall pick, thrived under tutelage of Josh McDaniel, then ruined when Belichick made Matt Patricia OC. Now, once again performed well during the Purdy injury with Klay as OC. Only 27, so not exactly a retread. If he can be had for a relatively modest draft choice (4th round?) bring him in??

Of the interview list so far I like Shula.
Shula is being projected as one of the early front runners for them.
The scuttle out there is the Shula/Scheelhaase interviews are strategically as a duo.
If true, Shula for HC brings Scheelhaase in for his OC.
Certainly an interesting projection as a kind of one stop shop hiring your HC and your OC at once.
Who he would select for a DC and the many positions coaching staff?

Yeah the Shula/Scheelhaase duo would be nice but should Rams OC Mike Lafleur land a HC gig I would guess the Scheelhaase fella would be in line to be Mcvay’s OC (should he himself not get a HC gig)Steelafan77 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 16, 2026 2:19 pmOf the interview list so far I like Shula.

Soooo many what if scenarios
Given the empty cupboard that is the Steelers offense, I think Scheelhaase and most aspiring OC’s would have to think long and hard about joining the Steelers and their archaic approach to modern NFL football.

Impressive history in 9 years, immediate turnaround, SB's, "Sean McVay" effect. Not even 40yo.

I see him as next Falcons head coach.

Has to be a caution flag for any offensive minded head coach or an assistant looking to jump to OC.Steeldrama wrote: ↑Fri Jan 16, 2026 2:35 pmYeah the Shula/Scheelhaase duo would be nice but should Rams OC Mike Lafleur land a HC gig I would guess the Scheelhaase fella would be in line to be Mcvay’s OC (should he himself not get a HC gig)Steelafan77 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 16, 2026 2:19 pmOf the interview list so far I like Shula.

The Steelers mentality and the lack of talent on the roster...seeing they need.
QB
WR#1 and #3
Modern TE.
RB 1a or 1b
Knowing many of these offensive candidates are coming from smooth running machines with talent

On the bright side for incoming offensive minded HC or OC..
You would think have some input on..
12 draft picks.
5 top 100 picks...
Have to think of those top 5 picks that 3 of those should be...
WR
TE
OL
Probably a mid Rnd second dip at WR
Adding a late rnd RB to Warren. Gainwell m Kaleb mix.
