*Merged Super Bowl thread*

Post by R_S » Sun Feb 08, 2026 7:06 pm

Depressing seeing the Seahawks and Pats both back in the Super Bowl after a very short hiatus. Both franchises moved on from veteran SB winning coaches at the right time. The pundits and talking heads always said "who are they gonna get who's better" when any talk of moving on from Mike came up.

Now we have finally moved on, but have we? Time will tell. It sure seems the hire is trying to put a finger in the dyke instead of rebuilding it bigger and better.

How would it look for Tomlin's legacy if the Steelers brought some young up and coming coach in and he succeeds right away.

Steelers shoulda grabbed Vrabel after Tennessee inexplicably fired him after the '23 season. Ironically, Vrabels last game with the Titans, he beat favored Jax, thrusting the Steelers into a playoff spot.

All that said, I think we'll be ok with McCarthy. I always ranked McCarthy ahead of Tomlin when this esteemed website would poll us asshats on the topic of coaches better than Tomlin. Most of you asshats, at the time, ranked Tomlin as better than both McCarthy and Harbaugh. Tomlin DID get the better of harbaugh, with some regularity.

Moved on from SB-winning coaches AND QBs. NE got there by drafting a QB, and SEA via reclamation project.

So it can be done. And quickly. While I think McCarthy is a lot like Tomlin - high floor, safe, not going to add much value - there's at least HOPE.

We [fans] won the SB the day they parted with Tomlin...

The reality should be AR2 looking at an owner who understood that they will have some down time to rise again. AR2 is such a coward

This right here. Dunce Rooney is an epic coward and lazy cunt.

I’ve long known a couple of reasons he kept Jibba so long was because (1) he’s satisfied with the mediocre middle and (2) he wanted no part of having to choose the next coach.

That is evident in him going safe & stale in hiring Buck Cluck.

A better question, will the game be watchable amongst four hours of people yakking and commercials.

So in this, the 20th year since our last SB win, we again root for losses...

What happened to this Green Day dude? Has to be wearing a wig, for some reason, and you can literally see the make-up caked on his face. I'm afraid he might melt.

If nothing else McCarthy is 10 years older than Tomlin. The shelf life is shorter

Both play defense and run the ball better than the Steelers as well, QB issue aside

I'm still amazed at how much the NFL has immersed the game in gambling. The fact that betting odds are discussed as part of the broadcast tells you just how far down the rabbit hole.

at least the 2nd time they've mentioned Maye being the 2nd youngest QB....no reference yet to Ben (whom Maye is younger than, if he wins)

Darnold is going to gift the Patriots at least six points if he keeps doing what he's doing...

Pats' secondary is playing phenomenal coverage.

Yeah, both defenses are aggressive with plenty of wrinkles. Really showing how outclassed Tomlin was.

Follow the money. The NFL already had terminal share of sports fans in the US. The only way to get more viewers was gambling and fantasy sports.

You can't go anywhere without seeing a betting ad, and they include former NFL players.

Normalization. I saw a comment on a vid from someone who works at a casino. He said there are suicides that dont get reported weekly.

There apparently is an in-stadium raffle. Zolak just mentioned it on the official Pats NFL broadcast.

We won the Super Bowl this year getting rid of Tomlin. Hope we can repeat by losing Dunce next year or 3. My Tomlins gone euphoria should last thru the coming seaon but we'll see lol. . Damn Walker is tearing it up tonight!

Will the Pats score a single point this half.

They should to keep Scott Zolak from having a stroke.

How does this 9-0 first half factor in with gambling.
