Porter rips Ben

Post by CKSteeler » Wed Feb 11, 2026 1:49 pm

He had to defend the honor of old Mediocre Mike. They spent a lot of time at their children's sports games acting a fool together. The comments are out there, but I won't link to the site I saw them on as it isn't welcome here.

He says that the things Ben did were "foul of all foul." Wasn't a good teammate, didn't exhibit captain qualities. Not a good person yada yada. Only specifics provided were that he wouldn't sign autographs for teammates which definitely comes off as douchy (other vets supposedly did it at the time).

I don't care to defend Ben's honor whatsoever. There's obviously a "there" there with him to where he rubs a lot of people the wrong way and we can speculate on this all day.

But Porter was a guy who was fired as a coach by the Steelers reportedly because of Ben who thought he acted more like a player than a coach in the locker room (which is really something the good old head coach should have been policing - not the QB). He went out drinking with his guys, he did dumb shit with his guys, and ended up on the field in a moment that I admittedly cherish because it was funny as fuck to see the Bungles Bungle that game away. But it was hardly upstanding behavior by a coach.

Porter was a guy who was shot at one point in his career. Details are sparse. He and his homeboys jumped Levi Jones in what I believe was a casino in Vegas.

Porter AND Tomlin reportedly made other parents deeply uncomfortable with their behavior at their kids sport events. Porter in particular was noted for acting like an ass.

And Porter is lobbying to get back with the org.

Not the best guy to cast stones to me. But if you're going to DO IT, fucking do it and stop beating around the bush. Just tell us the specifics already of what made Ben such a terrible human being. The rumor and innuendo is tiresome.

If the fat fuck Peter King's hit piece is any indication, a good portion of it is utter nonsense to begin with. If there's really something deeper there, I'd like to hear it. Something beyond the bullshit rape accusations.

Some reporter who he sneered at one time when he asked a stupid question will finally have his revenge!

I mean, yea he's not going in first ballot. Those sanctimonious fucks won't allow it. But who really cares he'll get in at some point probably soon.

I'm just tired of seeing guys take potshots at one another and then hide behind a supposed code that even if it actually existed they'd have already broken? And Porter is just a guy whose motives anyone should question on top of whether he's really someone who should be casting stones. He seems to have mellowed as he's aged which is great I guess. I have SOME fond memories of his time in uniform and even as a coach.

If you're going to start opening your mouth, and this applies to more than just him, just give the details or I'm just going to get to the point where I'm going to assume it's mostly a bullshit narrative. Not just here but with everything from now on. This is teenage girl shit.

Here's my take on Ben, which I posted some years ago. Ben could be a jagoff but he was a jagoff with an edge, UNTIL he was hung out to dry by the douchebag Art II on the eve of the 2010 draft, sending a letter to steeler season ticket holders telling them that not ALL Steelers were bad guys, all to satisfy the shadyside bistro crowd. Ben had less edge after that and he was not the same guy who we KNEW, like on a sunday night in Jax in 2008, when seeing him on the sideline with 2 min left and needing a TD, that he was going to get done & win the game.

Ben didn't acquit himself well when mason was drafted, kind of the opposite of AR's tutelage of Jordan love in Green Bay.

As for Peezy...somebody said this about him once, "joeys mouth writes checks that his ass can't cash." I've always been tempted to say that peezy is legit insane but his life is too settled to merit that description. He was a solid player, a major contributor to the 05 Super Bowl win. When he left for Miami prior to the 07 season, I coveted doubt that he would be adequately replaced by James Harrison, first coining SBI verbiage, as in "SBI > Being Right." And was I ever wrong about that.

But like CK, I will forever treasure Peezy's contribution to the 2015 playoff win at Paul brown stadium, or whatever it's called.

Now Deebo, in my estimation, despite his settled life now, and he had that DV episode, which is a major negative, IS legit insane, not in an AB way fortunately. And he had it right about Tomlin.

Yeah, this is just Porter defending his good friend Mediocrates.

I think most people paying attention know what Ben said was 100% correct - Tomlin ran a loose, undisciplined ship. And he describes something I'm sure we've all seen examples of - guy starts out with things buttoned up, has some success, and then gets lazy and avoids uncomfortable things (like confrontation and holding people accountable).

Starting to wonder if "Ben thinks he's an owner" wasn't just Ben calling out shit he knew was hurting the performance on the field.

I think the culture under Tomlin definitely shifted from one of "championship or bust" to "personal achievement". Do enough to get paid, but let's keep it fun - winning titles is hard work!

Ben is kind of a tard, and that's become clearer the more he speaks into a microphone post-career. He should never have gotten into a tit for tat with Rudolph, but I still think the context matters on that.

Like Rodgers, Ben didn't like them spending top draft picks on QB's. In this case, a 4th the year before on Dobbs and then a 3rd the next year on Rudolph and then there was Laundry Jones a bit before that.

I think he probably wouldn't have taken that out completely on Rudolph if not for Rudolph's own stupid statements on not needing Ben's help that Ben chose to take in the most malicious way possible and act like the mean girl in the locker room from then on out establishing her dominance. Jordan Love never said anything stupid like that publicly. Ben was the more experienced player who should have taken one look at Rudolph throwing the ball and realized he was no threat and it was in his own best interest to shrug that shit off- and play good solider.

I also tend to agree that Ben was never quite the same after the rape allegations. And then there was the Peter King hit piece the week before the Super Bowl.

People overlook or don't talk about it, but Watson in my view completely crumbled mentally after his own similar (though in my estimation far more substantiated) accusations of that nature. Going out and performing and keeping an "edge" when you know everyone despises you for that shit among other things probably isn't easy. I'm sure there's fans every week in your ear about it on weekdays as well as Sundays, you know?

Watson is an example of how bad Ben COULD have let that shit effect him and didn't. I mean, he's not going to get credit for that and maybe he shouldn't but it's a reality as I see it.

There are stories of shit that Tomlin let happen with his coaches that surfaced in the last few years that if it happened anywhere else with anyone else they'd be far bigger stories. Like, his OL room basically mutinying and turning on a young OL coach and making him sit in the back and shut the fuck up. Tomlin reportedly couldn't even manage his coaches with the smallest staff in the league and based on that report didn't even seem particularly interested in doing so. We don't know the specific coach this was and I get not naming him if he's still coaching, but that's a bad look for all parties involved that was quietly swept under the rug.

His relationship with Porter bordered on unprofessional just from the little we *do* know and I'm sure there's a hell of a lot more that we don't.

I do recall I think it was Prisco or someone popping off at the mouth that Tomlin was really tight with Darren Sharper and implying some things related to that. Again, something that was swept under the rug for Saint Tomlin.

That's all absolutely unbelievable if true. Beyond coaching malpractice.

But you can see how that sort of thing would endear Tomlin to the players. It's a good strategy if your goal is to be liked rather than, you know, winning SBs.

I'd also add if that is true and known around the league, it might explain some of the head-scratching coaching hires....because as many of us assumed no rising star wanted to hitch their wagon to Tomlin.

The plot thickens as an assorted cast of Steelers misfits has banded together in the comment section of Twitter/X to cheer Porter on. Such luminaries as Mason Rudolph himself, Mike Adams (name I haven't heard in a while), Tyler Matakavich, Mike Mitchell, Kevin Dotson, and Zach Banner all chimed in to support Porter for telling it like it is.

Yet not a single one of these cowardly fucks is willing to just, I don't know, back up what they say?

Mason is the most comical to me because he's been making passive aggressive remarks for fucking years and then backs down the second people ask if he's talking about Ben directly. Just fucking say it and be done with it.

No, wait, I lied. Mike fucking Mitchell's dopey ass chiming in. I'd have fucking mocked him on a daily basis if he was a teammate of mine. Moron was perhaps the single most embarrassing Steeler of the Tomlin era and that's saying a lot.

Just get Peezy, Ben and Deebo, Hoke, Aaron Smith on the same podcast and clear this up once and for all. The clip on Heyward's podcast starts at 32:00 regarding Peezy's comments on Deebo and then Ben.

Yes, it's now all about who is new in your year. The big names are Adrian Peterson, Gronk, Ben, AB, & Andrew Whitworth. Whitworth will get opposition since Willie Anderson isn't in yet and has arguably a better resume. If you think Ben is going to get protest abstentions, surely AB isn't getting in 1st-ballot. I think Ben & Gronk are locks, Peterson is very likely. The other modern player spots (if any) will be from last year's finalists & Whitworth.

There will be a media shit storm if they induct Ben and child abuser Adrian Peterson in the same class.

Did Cam push back at all on Porter? Ben's probably a dickhead, but Cam seems to be one too. At least Ben was a winner and not a company man Tomlin-suck loser like Cam. Reading between the lines, there's bad blood between Ben and Tomlin.

There's a lot that has been and more can be said about Ben. I'm far from the most knowledgeable on this subject.

But what has always been obvious to me is this:
> The lack of quality of Ben's character has always been an issue
> He lacked focus and discipline
> He had all the tools and instead of maximizing their use he seemed to skate
> He was not a good leader

"What could have been" should be his legacy. If he applied himself and had discipline he could've performed better and LED the team to greater successes.

While I appreciate what he did accomplish, for me his glass will always be half empty.

What could have been.

How is this news?

I mean, it's common knowledge Big Ben was an unbelievable douchebag, which is impressive to stand out as much as he did considering the sport is full of them.

There are hundreds and hundreds of accounts of fan interactions with him during his time as a Steeler where he was a complete POS scoundrel. Mainly from waiters/servers.

He was a terrible, awful human being. Which is why he turned to bro country and God ala Shawn Michaels.

One of my favorite football players ever tho.

Many years ago I met a college teammate of Ben's who did not go on to play pro ball. He told me, unsolicited, that Ben was a jerk. I believed him then and I believe him now.

Frankly who cares, he delivered us two Super Bowl wins. And without him all the choir boys in the world wouldn't have won shit.

Was never a fan of Porter, and I'm getting tired of his son. Always a loudmouth, and he wasn't half the edge rusher James Harrison was. Acting like he's a stand-up guy with his multiple arrests and run-ins with the law. Fuck him, the piece of shit. Ben's no angel, but without him, the Steelers are still waiting for the one for the thumb.

Is this Old Coach Mike getting his thoughts out in public by laundering them through this piece of shit? Yes.

Remember when his dogs mauled a miniature horse to death. How did his dogs get so bloodthirsty? I wonder. Was he into that dog fighting shit?

Probably, he seems like the kind of human garbage that would do that.

He's fucking worthless.

Ben is 1000% the football player that idiot was, and he seems to have cleaned his shit up nicely. People worship Kobe Bryant still, why does Ben get smeared.

Has Porter cleaned his act up? Most likely not. That gossipy bitch just plummeted in my estimation of him. Probably still has dogs fighting to the death for his pleasure.
"I'm institutionalized, man," he joked. "I gotta have it. I just love the challenges week in and week out that this job provides: the growth in it, the collective growth, the individual growth."

Maybe Ben was a douche shitty teammate but one hall of clutch qb. Brought you two super bowls. So you overlook the douche shitty teammate part. Pretty simple.

Let's not pretend that PC was in the hell of a football player… Play the major role with the 05 Super Bowl team then went onto Miami and registered 17 1/2 sacks in 08.... just turned out that Harrison ironically was a better player. The stuff that Peezy says about both Harrison and Ben is not untrue. The PC's relationship was kind of sketchy. Both peas and Harrison will be featured in the documentary a football town narrated by McAfee.

Its kinda sad how grown ass men in their 40s are acting like catty gossiping women on podcasts. Pathetic actually.

I will say the comment about Ben at the Super Bowsl rings true with a story Ive told here before.

I was dating a buxom blonde from Tampa for about 10 months back in 2013. She had a fitness model body with D cups and id fly in from DC to spend weekends swimming nude with her in her pool and soaking in her hot tub drinking cocktails, but I digress. The point of the story is we were at a popular live music venue in Ybor City (I believe it was called Crowbar) at which she used to bartend back in 2008 2009. She told me that the night before the Super Bowl there was a pregame event there and some Steelers and Ben where present. She said Ben was sloppy drunk making out with girls on the stage in plain view and partying until 2am. So I can only imagine the shit he was doing that only his teammates new about.

Ben self admitted he was kind of a douche as a young man. So Joey’s story is probably right. Doesn’t mean that Ben didn’t grow up.

Also, seems like Ben had an issue later in his career with Tomlin (you could read between the lines multiple times). Joey is tight with Tomlin.

Yeah joey missing a screw or 3 but I don’t recall reading anything scathing Ben said about Tomlin that would set him off.

Can’t cure crazy

I never bought into the sacred cow bow down to Ben crowd but I of course appreciate his talent and of course the Super Bowls

Not a good human but it doesn’t affect my day any nor my high opinion of him as a football player

Hell, I live in Georgia. Had a coworker complain about a Roethlisberger fat head in my classroom. Principal asked me to remove it in light of Milledgeville

Whatever

Now what would be interesting is if Ben will retort with some stories of his own on his podcast but my guess is he’ll keep quiet…. At least until after he’s safely in the HOF

Anyway

I’m sure we all can spin a tale about the escapades of Steelers past and present

Rod Woodson was banging a girl from my high school WHILE SHE WAS STILL IN HIGH SCHOOL

And according to my bartender source Rod was every bit the dick and bad tipper Ben is reputed to be.

PLENTY more Ben’s and Rod’s out there in the sports and entertainment world

Root for the helmet

Ohh

And ask a McCandless cop about Joey’s behavior at a North Allegheny football game starting with his fully stocked Escalade
Nick Markakis on Astros: "Every guy over there needs a beating."
