Re: Top sorting events you've seen live
1- Game 3 of the sweep of the Reds by the Pirates in the NLCS. We snuck down from the cheap seats to behind the dugout and ran out on the field after the final out. I jumped off the dugout and 10 year old me had no idea how high they were. Ran around in the outfield until a cop on horseback forced me back into the infield. General admission ticket was $4.00, I still have the stub.
2-The 1994 playoff game beatdown of the Belichick led Browns. This was my first ever playoff game and it was a nightmare getting back to Pittsburgh. I live in Baltimore and drove to pick my friends up at the Shady Grove Metro stop in Montgomery county MD. When we stopped in Hagerstown to get food the parking lot was covered in ice, it was sleeting. We decided to take I-68 instead of I-70 because in my words "If we spin there won't' be any on the road to hit us" Fast forward to Frostburg, MD and the back end of my car just passed me by and we were spinning on the ice on I-68. Wound up facing the wrong way but no damage and were able to continue. 4 hour drive took 9 hours and we got in to my friends parents house in USC at 2 AM. The game though was awesome. When we left all we could talk about was the Super Bowl and who the Steelers would play. There was no way that we could believe any team was going to come into 3 rivers and beat that team...
3-2010 Playoffs vs the Ravens. Brought the whole family, had a blast tailgaiting with tons of friends from High School and the Steelers had the great comeback and the AB helmet catch. Bonus was when my kids went back to school Monday they had bragging rights over all of the local Ravens fans.
4-2004 Playoff game vs the Jets. Game sucked but it was my first playoff game in 10 years, the Steelers won and Big Ben was here.
5-2016 playoffs vs the Dolphins. Had a great time just me, my 15 year old son and 2 great friends. Last home playoff win.

You wanna talk sorting events, you should watch my 82 year old dad and his 83 year old girlfriend get ready to do a 1,000 piece puzzle. Riveting stuff after a few glasses of bourbon.
Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile...

Watching the initial sort of the edge and corner pieces from the rest, puts Deebo's TD INT in the Superbowl to shame.

AB twerking vs Redskins
Kordell 80 yard run vs Ravens when Cowher kissed him
Saw Bo Jackson play for Memphis Chicks
1988 Major Harris skull fucks Paterno and Penn St. Rushed the field
2023 return of the Backyard Brawl
Saw Ripken get within one game of Lou Gehrig record. The whole lights go out and the number dropped on the Warehouse ceremony was incredible
Was in the house for Eddie Murray's 500th hr. Four hour rain delay. Friends Father made us leave. Watched Murray hit 500th hr at 1:30 in the morning from my couch.
Chris Webber, Juwan Howard, Rasheed Wallace, Gheorghe Mureșan, 1995 Washington Wizards training camp lol at Shepherd University in WV.

My all-time record seeing my favorite team play in any sport is absolutely dismal.
I only have two important sporting events I have seen live:
1. 2016 AFCCG at Foxboro where the lacrosse player Chris Hogan made Tomlin's defensive secondary look like the Keystone Cops. New England 36, Pittsburgh 17, and I had to sit in the fucking drizzle to watch them hand over the trophy to Kraft, Belicheat and Brady.
2. Game 3 of the 1998 ALDS at Fenway Park. Cleveland 4, Boston 3. Uneventful but the only MLB playoff game I have ever been to.
3. First regular season game at Heinz Field, October 7, 2001. Pittsburgh 16, Cincinnati 7. The 9/11 terrorist attacks cancelled what was supposed to be the first regular season game vs. Cleveland. Had great seats purchased from a Steelers season ticket holder who lived in Rhode Island. Made the trip down to Pittsburgh with my brother.
3. Opening game of the 1994 NFL season at TRS where the defending Super Bowl champion Cowboys put a hurting on the Steelers 26-9. I saw the fat fuck John Madden walk into the stadium with Pat Summerall. I yelled down to Madden, "Hey John! This place is a house of horrors for you, isn't it?!" He just looked up and kept walking.
I always bitch about this, but I was at TRS two nights after John Candelaria's no hitter in August 1976. First ever Pirate game and TRS visit. Los Angeles beat Pittsburgh 2-0 behind the fine pitching of Pirate-to-be Rick Rhoden. Larry Demery took the loss for the Bucs. If only my dad would have gotten tickets to the Candy Man game.

Why didn't you get the fuck out of that dump as soon as the game was over? Oh… You must've been with your brother-in-law, Mike, the guy who told me I would get stabbed wearing my Bernard Pollard fan club t... and with the pizza man Leo, who does make a kick ass pie.
Most fun I ever had had a Steelers loss was with you ass hats in 2014

That was 2013 brother, and you are correct that I was at the mercy of Mike and Kate else my ass would have been on 95 going south already. Was a kickass tailgate again though before and after the game.swissvale72 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 24, 2026 2:35 amWhy didn't you get the fuck out of that dump as soon as the game was over? Was that the 2012 game at Heinz with the bumblebee jerseys? If so, I was at that game, too.

1. 1994 AFC Championship Game vs. Chargers. 13-3 lead going into the 4th quarter and the defensive secondary shots their pants against Stan Humphries. Was when I first had my doubts about Cowher. I was so fucking mad leaving the stadium. I perked up two weeks later watching the 49ers destroy San Diego and was thankful it wasn't the Steelers being destroyed.
2. The Cordova-Rincon combined no-hitter at TRS. It was cool and all but I hate the modern game of pulling pitchers no matter how well they're doing. Thought it in '97 and think it today. Okay, Gen Xer.
3. 1984 West Virginia beats Penn State for the first time in 29 years. Mountaineer Field went crazy!

Top 3
1.) August 12th, 2007 as Excel introduced the 1,048,576 row limit in the xlsx files, I gathered several large CSV files and appended them all, and put on the auto filter and hit the AZ sort button! It was a magical!
2.) Fort Hood mail room 1998! I asked to work the mail room and that enabled me to me to get BAS and not have to eat in the chow hall for the rest of my enlistment! First day I got all those envelopes and packages sorted in all those PO Boxes on the first floor of the barracks; it was glorious!
3.) 1984 was my first Tuesday for my new paper route for the Tribune Democrat! They had these stupid sections called the ERA for Westmont only, or was it Winber…you had to insert those into all 127 papers on my route, which included Sunday! It was a 6:00am sort from hell! But I got er done until my senior year in 1990.

Going to post this here and on the greatest Pittsburgh athletes OP.
I was having this Convo with my friend Charlie yesterday. This is a guy, lifelong patriot fan, who has been to the tuck rule game a number of AFC championship games and at least one Super Bow...And out of nowhere without me providing any reference to threads on this topic., tells me that the greatest sporting event he's ever been to was a steel cage match between Bruno Sammartino beating The Shiek at Boston Garden in 1969.

I gave you a like, brother. I have to think there's a Harry Potter sorting cap joke in there somewhere.LakecrestSteeler wrote: ↑Wed Feb 18, 2026 12:33 pmTop sorting events you've seen live:
