It looks like he runs small with a little hesitation and some burst.
Finally retired: 31DEC25

That is an interesting take. The guy has not played a snap all year comes in in week 14 no reps, and in a must win situation has several nice plays yet in a timing play with nor real game time is slightly out of position and he sucks![]()

Wow thats kind of harsh

But he shouldn’t have seen any snaps. Switz is better. Would also rather see McDonald compared to Eli.

Never been impressed with Switz. 2017 Eli didn't belong in the NFL. I take 2016 Eli over Switz all day.
Switz is ok on returns. As a receiver/runner he's not really even good enough to call a JAG.

Switzer > Rodgers
Switzer is not able to exist in the middle to intermediate routes when he isn't schemed open ...he is weak and cant get off of press coverage.
17 being back in the mix tonight as absolutely HUGE boys. He has much more burst than Switzer (The Switz has some savvy and is tough)
Rogers creates an entirely different dynamic for this offense going forward.

re-watching the game -
Eli looked very good in the 1st Q -- had like 4 catches really quickly
nice for his first game action this year
Rogers had 4 catches for 20 yards, a 5.0 yard average. That is supposed to be proof of something??
Rogers does not open this offense up, James Washington having 3 catches for 65 yards OPENS this offense up.
Rogers is NOT better than Switzer, I honestly don't know what you Eli lovers are looking at, what tape are you seeing that I am not?? Switz does just fine in the role that Rogers couldn't handle, being a slot WR and return man.
Rogers last season had just 6 catches that were over 10+ yards, his catch % of 50 was absolutely terrible for a slot WR.
Switz this season has 10 catches over 10+ yards, and his catch % of 84 is exceptional for a slot WR, Ben is 32 of 38 throwing to Switz. Switz came to the team late, did not have a full offseason or training camp, yet is coming on fast. He will be even better next season and will have a jump in productivity like Vance McDonald enjoyed this season. It is hard to come in cold like that and play catch up all year in that first season with the team.
Enjoy Eli Rogers while you can, he won't be back next season.

Samuels is a smart kid, learns fast. He must have studied film of Oak game. Last week he missed lanes, missed cuts, couldn't expect him to play with poise so early, yet that's what he did vs NE. The vision is there.
Except for replacing Foster, all draft picks s/b D & kicker.

I was shocked Samuels played so well. He looked like a completely different player. He was a lot quicker than last week when he looked like he was running in quicksand. (I know Oakland's field is garbage but still).
His burst was a pleasant surprise.

And he wasn't intimidated by NE D or such a big spot. Kid's got it. Maybe a gem. He has to improve on pass pro and he will, he looks like he'll enjoy smashing a LB or Dback. After left sweep first half he sat on NE bench, nice way to say fuck you. Kid's a Steeler.

it was his first game back this year -- against the Patriots. I was impressed with his 1st Q of play.
Washington is getting better, but he's been on the bus since week one, and he hasn't done shit until these last 2 weeks. I'm still not sold on him, but I do hope he succeeds like so many of our WRs have in this system. Regardless, I like having Rogers back.

Jaylen impressed me today, but I want to see it come consistently & repeatedly. It looked like to me, last week, he was a bit hesitant and not confident in himself. He came out confident today and after a couple good runs it was on. I don't think he "looks back".
Now the play calling with him, in my opinion, was pathetic. For all the good I see in the Ben/Fictner combo, there are some major fucking flaws. Way TOO many Haley leftover empty backfield plays in the playbook. That shit piss me off. At least with a RB, back with Ben, the defense has to guess just a little bit. Way TOO many plays where the opposing defense can "pin" their ears back. And does the Fictner/Ben combo have or know what play action is. After the runs over 10 yds and the 7.5 per carry Jaylen had, play action and him as a check down outta of the backfield was ripe for the taken. Especially on that last possession when we needed to run out the clock. It Never happened!
As far as Eli Rodgers goes, someone said Switzer goes down with the wind. Thats EXACTLY whats wrong with ELi Rodgers, not Switzer. Rodgers is fingered tackled more that anyone I have seen and that's the main reason why he was a terrible return man. PLUS, Switzer is basically a mere rookie compared to Rodgers. Switzer is an NFL baby yet and MUCH room for improvement. Eli's saving grace is he helps out the #3 WR position until Washington "pulls his head out" for good.

What I saw today could be the beginning of something special in Washington. After that sideline catch, Washington seemed very much more confident. You could tell as he seemed to attack the ball on the next play on his catch and run where he broke the tackle and bulled his way for extra yds while running up the back of James/McDonald ( I forgot which).
As much as it was coming out party for Samuels it was also one for Washington too. Great jobs all around rooks.

Would really like to get Connor & Samuels on the field at the same time. Gives an offense a lot of options.
Great to see Washington step up as well. This offense really needs more of that from him.

Great game from Samuels today. The OL opened holes.
Great catch by Washington on the 32 yarder (the missed fg drive). Shades of Washington in the preseason, and why we drafted him.

Upon watching some highlights on youtube just now

The little toss play that became a counter basically allowed Samuels to be almost in a punt return mode. The endzone cam angle is really nice to watch.

I said last week that Washington executed his part of the hook and ladder to perfection and hoped it gave him confidence.
Here’s hoping that turned the corner for him because our offense could be so much better if he canmplay with confidence.

Play action will give Ben more open looks.
Ben has to be quick and perfect against tighter coverages, with defenses expecting a pass when they go empty set.
No guessing on Run or Pass, makes average defenders better, makes smarter defenders smarter. Eliminates the first step forward for a defender on possibly guessing run
Still very little element of surprise to this offense.
Does Ben no favors.
Ben passing into tighter windows all the time and throwing up many contested balls............= Ben leading the NFL in INTs
Little to no PA passing is mind boggling

But, hey, we got those RPO plays where Ben gets to throw blindly into a sea of bodies in the middle of the field!

I am not sure how he caused the interception. I thought it should have been DPI and was just him trying to move through a screen on which he was being held while the ball was in the air. Ball could have gone to Brown or ElI, hence why I think it could have been called DPI.
I agree Lackcrest - that should have been DPI. Eli's guy was all over him, basically hugging him.

I'm holding out hope that this offense can put it all together and go on a historically great ps run.
Washington making plays would help, for sure.
Gotta love the plays he made the past 2 games.

The play where Jaylen ended up sitting on the Pats’ bench always makes me laugh.

yes it does.
funny how the Pat guy on the right pushes him off the seat.

Have to disagree on the DPI - It was within the 5 yard box, and (IIRC) the defender was facing the ball and coming back to it, while Rogers was not.

Jaylin's scouting report had him taking wildcat snaps. Forgot that. He mentioned that in post game. Lot of possibilities there.
So happy for these guys, especially Washington.

It was perfect, Ben mentioned it in the post-game pc about getting his confidence up on that play he hoped.
Ben also mentioned he hadn't lost any confidence in him, also, something I like about Ben and how he is a leader for this team.
for me that was the best part of the game
Watching Washington and samuels become part of the team
I felt like they were my kids
and was so happy -- especially Washington -- when they succeeded
Samuels burst and power around the edges was impressive

Samuels has always looked elusive and possessing burst when he's got some space (like a screen pass). The difference last night was they figured out how to get him some space and he figured out a little how to make his own when things were tighter.
He's a stud, man-- he is really explosive out of his breaks on routes when he's split out and he has a scorer's mentality when he gets close. I also like that he intentionally stayed in bounds on that late pass reception. That's football smarts in the heat of battle, and I'll take it.
