Colbert to the Lions

At this point I cannot wait for a new coach press conference.
I mean it’s beyond time.....fuck this guy.
Tomlin hasn’t done shit in the last decade.

It's in a sealed envelope along with a photo of Art II blowing a tranny that Mike Tomlin keeps in a safe in his home office.Steeldrama wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 5:29 pmWhere is Mike Tomlin's accountability?Colbert was on the way out. When you are going from year to year, with no commitment beyond that, you can't run a franchise that way. Where is the accountability?

He’s under contract through next (2021) season.Kevin Colbert doesn't actually have a real contract anymore. He goes from year to year. So, after the current year is done, he thinks about whether he wants to come back, put his hand in the pile so to speak, and then if he decides he wants to come back, he merely signs a one year deal.

Well, first, I half-expected to see boobs when I opened this thread. It's ok. "Blank" to the "Blank" threads always seemed to have juicy photos in the past.
A new GM might indeed be a good thing. The bad thing is that Art II would be the hiring authority. We'll see.
If Colbert were being "nudged" out, it would show that Art II is moving in the right direction. If that happens, we can only hope that he will hire the GM equivalent of a Chuck Noll type, who when gathering the entire coaching staff together for his first meeting, might say something like, "Fellas, I've been watching lots of film, and I have to tell you, the reason that the team is having such trouble in the post-season for the past decade or so is that you guys are just not any good, and I'm going to have to cut most of you before we're through."
I think it's time for something like that. Good or bad results, it's time for a sea change. 4 Head Coaches since 1969 still sounds hella good.

I like Colbert. He's hit on a few drafts in his time. Last year was a really exceptional one along with adding Minkah.
That said...if this move gets us closer to canning The Fraud at HC, then I could support it. We still have a lot of room on having better and more advanced scouting, utilizing analytics a bit more, hiring more innovative coaches. Colbert hasn't been great in a lot of these areas. A great GM has to adapt with the times...not sure he can.
Now, if we hire a stale GM with no innovation and no new ideas...that is a massive step backwards. You don't let Colbert talk to the Lions unless you have a superstar GM ready.

I'm not sure about Brandon Hunt, he was on record back in 2019 saying he really liked the Snell pick.
If the new GM steps in and his first move is to fire the entire coaching staff than I believe the Steelers have a better chance to win a SB in the coming future. We ain't winning a SB with Tomlin at the helm.

Again.......thats the largest problem the Steelers have......too many "untouchables" for anyone in the organization to fix .......unless some authority structures are addressed and changed......
Colbert cant trade Tuitt because Tomlin likes him.......Tomlin cant bench DeCastro because Colbert paid him......Derek Watt gets a huge contract because TJ wants him here......Canada gets brought in because Ben likes Randy.......Canada cant really do anything because its Randy's offense
etc etc etc

In their current state, I hate everything about this organization.
Munchak saw it. Colbert sees it. Deuce is blind.
If this rumor is true, it's a big big big big big big red flag. You don't talk about retirement for a few years just to take the same job somewhere else....unless the real reason is you can't work with someone any more.

Definite trend...seems like he wants to control as much as he can
I'm pretty sure that was Deuce. Because, unless I'm misremembering, Tomlin announced Arians would be back and then suddenly a day or two later said he was retiring.Minkah'n Big Plays wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 8:28 pmMaybe not a few years but Bruce Arians says, "hi"

And then Deuce hired Haley with the mandate to stop the Franchise from getting killed.

So the Browns hired a new young guy, and this coach kicked Mike T square in the nuts from the first snap without being anywhere near the field?
Man, I just on't know who we would find to replace Tomlin and right the ship. No clue!!! There's no one out there!

"I'm institutionalized, man," he joked. "I gotta have it. I just love the challenges week in and week out that this job provides: the growth in it, the collective growth, the individual growth."

Tomlin is in the last year of his deal and a lame duck as of Sunday night. Did I somehow miss Tomlin getting extended passed 2021?Jobu wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 5:40 pmHe’s under contract through next (2021) season.Kevin Colbert doesn't actually have a real contract anymore. If the league is still moving to a passing league being able to find WR's all through the draft is a pretty good skill to have though.franco32 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 7:06 pmI like Colbert. He's hit on a few drafts in his time. Last year was a really exceptional one along with adding Minkah.

This was the most bothersome part of the whole season. We saw the effect the motion had on the running game early in the season and it seemed like we just stopped using it after around the Philly game.SteelerDayTrader wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 8:02 pmCanada cant really do anything because its Randy's offense

Did Ben not like it?
Did Randy not like it?
Did Tomlin not like it?
They knew what a lot of the concepts were from his time at Pitt and Tomlin obviously keeps tabs on Maryland. They just stopped adding that presnap motion after about a month and then they used it exclusively for the Ray Ray pop pass jet sweep play. As soon as they went in motion we all knew they were going to run the pop pass jet sweep.
Added 1 play that is designed to work off other plays to slow the D down. Then for the playoffs they added a FB dive up the A gap as a wrinkle to the offense.

Who was Bill Cowher? Who was Chuck Noll? Who was Mike Tomlin?
They all were probably very good interviews. What ever the script of questions you need answered during the interview process I hope Dan left a copy of it with Art II. That list of bullet points has paid off handsomely in the last 50 years.

I cannot imagine him having a better job in his own eyes. Win some superbowls and see the All Pro and Pro Bowl rosters littered with his fingerprints even if the player doesn't make it in Pittsburgh he knows what he saw.Greeksteel wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 10:58 pmi know he worked there, but hes a Pittsburgh native, this has to be or has been his dream jobjeemie wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 10:15 pmHe came from the Lions’ org, remember?Greeksteel wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 4:42 pmCorrect me if im wrong, Colbert is a Pittsburgh native?, and hes gonna leave the Steelers for the Lions job??

He is the best football mind in the organization that I am aware of. Maybe somebody else is more football savvy than him but I don't see who it could be and if they exist then they need to be promoted yesterday.

The whole Colbert rumor was started by a media guy in Detroit which means one of two things:
1. Local media guy personally hoping for the hire and starts the rumor.
2. Local media guy is purposely fed this rumor by a Lions staffer in order to get the leak out to Colbert that the Lions want to talk.
Anything else is tampering and a punishable offense by the league.

Whatever happens, or however you see our team and its postseason woes, Kevin Colbert is not the problem here and I do not want him to leave.
GMs with a resume like Colbert are hardly a dime a dozen and it makes me very nervous that both our GM and president seem to be looking for new jobs in the same offseason.
My hope, as greek's tweet-quote suggests, this is some generated rumor-mill type stuff to get ownership to shell out more dough. And if that is the basic problem, they fucking well should.

We all know that Rooney is too cheap to fire the head coach before the end of a contract. But if Tomlin's contract is not renewed prior to the 2021 season, perhaps the demise of MT can happen in a year. I doubt even Rooney is stupid enough to let Colbert go - especially after the Minkah deal & the 2020 draft & if Rooney tells Colbert that the MT contract won't be renewed.stillthere wrote: ↑Thu Jan 14, 2021 1:00 amTomlin is in the last year of his deal and a lame duck as of Sunday night. If by one new coordinator you mean two new coordinators I’m with you.SteelerDayTrader wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 4:28 pmHopefully it happens.......
More than ANYTHING else the Steelers need alot of new blood that doesnt feel obligated to other employees in the building
Truthfully Id like to see a new GM HC and at least 1 coordinator that arent connected to each other in any way
Hopefully they are all winners and work together great......but if not.....let power consolidate around whoever earns it
