He helped make that defense great by pushing the ball downfield, getting them leads, converting 3rd downs at a legendary pace, controlling TOP at the expense of his own offense's ability to score, converting game winning drives at a record pace (especially the year where he could barely lift his throwing arm)... and he did it all with almost universally shitty pass pro.

The difference the past few years is: the defense has coughed up the leads he gave them and or doesn't keep it close enough for the great comeback/4th Q winning drives artist to get a shot at the end.

Mario Williams came off a short porch and rocked the QB to a grade 1 separation AC sprain.

Jet's are better with Vick than with Geno. So in effect we weren't playing the same team that previously went 1-8.

Mike Tomlin's lifetime coaching record vs. teams who were .200 or worse. Both losses were this year.

It's not like he doesn't know how to coach vs. bottom feeders and it's unlikely he just forgot how to coach vs. legendarily bad teams suddenly.

As another poster here observed, even if they're going by the record of the team when they played us, the stat is still easily proved wrong with cursory research.

This team has been bad to mediocre since the 2012 season. It's mediocre and improving this season. The arrow is pointing up, despite the agony of losing to the Bucs and Jets. Next two years will be much more fun to watch - barring injuries.
