Please point out the plays that he accomplished this for STD
I am not 100 percent sure that someone that tries to relay thoughts in monkey emojis is capable of thinking that far in advance.Texas Black & Gold wrote: ↑Tue Sep 26, 2023 3:32 pmI don't think the person behind all the criticism is really being serious. Wait a minute you are not suggesting The Pittsburgh Steelers move him around like Aaron Donald, Jussie Garrett, or Nick Bosa that is crazy. If you did that he may not be on pace for 34 sacks on the #2 seed in the AFC currently.Stosh-67 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 26, 2023 3:45 pmAnd for the love of the football gods.........
Can we allow this guys some freedom on some plays,
to line up over the center,
in the A gap,
come from the opposite side,
line up in his usual spot - only 2 yards wider and come at better angle with a full head of steam.
He must lose 10+ pounds a game battling OT, TE, RB chips, tackle eligible...etc...
from the same exact spot.
TJ Watt ....PLUUUUUUSSSS....the element of surprise and confusion would results in some chaos and game changing plays, if not blown time outs from the opponent
I was listening to (i want to say Chris Carter) yesterday or today and he brought up that since they have both been in the league the Steelers record without TJ Watt in the lineup swings from 69% to 9% and with Jussie Garret Cleveland's win % swings from like 59% with to 24% without him.Dan Smith--BYU wrote: ↑Wed Sep 27, 2023 12:35 amShould have been MVP last year. Not the point however……Steelersfan wrote: ↑Wed Sep 27, 2023 3:37 amSTD, we haven't played a game in 3-4 years, where TJ wasn't the MOST dominate player on the field. By far, end of story.
If his stats & play wasn't up to snuff, it was because he was double/triple teamed/chipped (concentrated on) and the rest of the D-line didn't take advantage of it. But that still makes him the most dominate player on the field.
STD, would you tell me what do you mean by "big" games?SteelerDayTrader wrote: ↑Tue Sep 26, 2023 5:36 pmLolololzbradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Tue Sep 26, 2023 5:33 pmI should have said 6 years for STD to calm down about the pick. Might have been closer to correct.
FWIW
After seeing Low Watt perform for a few years
I’ve consistently maintained Watt is a good player
He just disappears on a historic level in big moments
If someone would show me when that’s been wrong I will change my mind

WOW, WOW. Great write up Scunge. I love your breakdowns. Watt is a Monster and on a totally different level than those other players. Best defensive player in the league hands down.Scunge wrote: ↑Wed Sep 27, 2023 2:55 pmFunny, I read the post and immediately thought to myself, I know what TJ Watt does but what the hell does Myles Garrett do that people argue that he is BETTER than Watt?
Myles Garrett to me is the player that personifies what STD accuses Watt of being.
Garrett beats up on lowly teams, pads his sack stats, but does he really do anything else in helping his team to win games?
Isn't Myles Garrett a one trick pony?? A below average player in other aspects of the game?? Against the run, against the pass, in coverage, knocking down passes at the line of scrimmage? Making interceptions?? Forcing fumbles? Recovering fumbles??
But maybe I am being unfair, let us loot at the production of both, shall we??
Garrett 87 games. 79 sacks. 152 QB Hits.
Watt 90 games. 83.5 sacks, 174 QB Hits.
Garrett 0 interceptions and 13 passes defensed. This is really, really bad. You are tall, have long arms and such, this elite talent, you are supposed to bat down passes at the line of scrimmage.
If you take the combined INTs and passes defensed of Joey Bosa, Nick Bosa, Micah Parsons, Maxx Crosby and Myles Garrett it comes out to 1 interception and 43 passes defensed. That is what those 5 players combined have done over the course of 330 career games.
Watt has 6 interceptions and 39 passes defensed in 90 games. Watt is on another plane of existence when it comes to this part of his game. His instincts and relentless effort will not be denied.
So, okay what about tackles for loss?? Forced fumbles? Fumble Recoveries???
Forced Fumbles (Career)
Watt 25
J. Bosa 14
Garrett 14
N. Bosa 8
Parsons 7
Crosby 7
Fumble Recoveries (Career)
Watt 9
Garrett 4
Parsons 4
J. Bosa 3
N. Bosa 2
Crosby 2
Tackles for Loss (Career)
Watt 93
Garett 81
J. Bosa 79
Crosby 67
N. Bosa 58
Parsons 38
Every facet of the game, TJ Watt is dominating. He can rush the passer, play the run, force fumbles, recover fumbles, make interceptions, do it all.
I honestly think that if Watt was put at MLB, ILB he would be the best in the NFL at that too.
All of these discussions that the talking heads in the media have every year ranking the best edge rushers, they are being ridiculous. TJ Watt is the best in the NFL because it is more than just getting sacks, it is about everything else that he DOES, that the rest of these edge rushers DON'T. They don't make INTs, they don't get their hands on pass attempts, they don't force as many fumbles, don't recover as many fumbles, don't have as many tackles for loss.
That is all I have to say about that.
My personal theory is that it's Pro Football Focus trying to justify it's own existence.Scunge wrote: ↑Wed Sep 27, 2023 2:55 pmAll of these discussions that the talking heads in the media have every year ranking the best edge rushers, they are being ridiculous. Should be easy right ??

When the Steelers need every W and some help in many seasons to make the playoffs or just to stay in contention, then every game is "big" in my opinion.
If by "big" you mean the 3 playoff losses, then judging TJ based solely on those games alone is a bit short sighted and unfair IMO.
If by "big" you mean Super Bowls, then have you ever heard of Dick Butkus, Dan Dierdorf, Alan Page, Derrick Thomas, Jack Youngblood, Bruce Smith, just to name a few HOF defensive players to never have a SB ring?
Sadly, TJ Watt may never get a SB ring either or God forbid a playoff victory, but that should not be held against him nor will it stop him from being in the HOF someday.
So so very very dumb. Funny and entertaining, I'll grant you.SteelerDayTrader wrote: ↑Wed Sep 27, 2023 3:51 pmSteelerDayTrader wrote: ↑Wed Sep 27, 2023 1:25 pmLolololz
