John Frascella PS QB Drama Details
Re: John Frascella PS QB Drama Details
I am going with this never happened. If it did? The MSM would be all over it. Nothing ESPN or NFL network would love more than to fill airtime with a story like this.
It makes Tomlin look weak. The MSM would be all over it.
Can't have that.
I do believe there were some hurt fee fees on Kenny Football's part and probably quite a bit of drama, Coach seems to attract that shit, and also poor communication, Coach is definitely guilty of that.
“We’ve got to write that story. We’ve got enough talent, we’ve got enough schematics to do big, big things. When I say big things, I’m talking about historic things.”

Please, as if the likes of a Cowherd or Stephen A Smith wouldn't be feasting on this.
Anyone remember the story from last year where Mike Tomlin apparently told Minkah that he thought Christian Gonzalez lacked a 'competative edge' and cited an unnamed source? Turns out the story was written by a UPS driver in Kentucky.
Anyway....As far as i can tell this John Frascella guy is a tax accountant on Long Island, so I'm calling bullshit that he has exclusive knowledge of text messages and/or private conversations between an NFL head coach and his Quarterbacks.

Maybe, but only when it was advantageous to do so. They slow roll Coach Mike's negatives big time.steelclan wrote: ↑Wed Apr 10, 2024 4:45 pmlanger wrote: ↑Wed Apr 10, 2024 4:42 pmIt makes Tomlin look weak. The MSM would be all over it.

the reason i said i didn’t believe it is because the article claims tomlin intentionally lied to these guys - i don’t believe that. he may have been obtuse or non-commital and not upfront but i dont think he lied to people. that is not a solid long term method for a coach

If Jones pans out to his ceiling at LT, he's more valuable than any CB not in the Rod Woodson stratosphere.

On no planet were the Steelers drafting CB with *both* of their first 2 picks. Also, if memory serves, last year was a very deep CB class but very top heavy at OT.
And what’s he worth if he doesn’t?If Jones pans out to his ceiling at LT, he's more valuable than any CB not in the Rod Woodson stratosphere.

If he gives us John Jackson level play for a decade? Probably still more in this NFL.

For what it's worth, 1-2 of the PPG guys said Wilson was guaranteed the starter role before this article ever came out. That appears to be true.
Did Mason get screwed? Sort of. They hedged their bets, probably liked him but saw his ceiling [correctly] as an average-to-good backup. When they got Wilson, Mason became expendable.
And I don't blame Kenny for asking for a trade. This is kind of his make-or-break year, and potentially having to compete just for #2 is not an ideal situation, especially in offensive backwards PIT. IMO, Kenny's career was already dead here.
We can say Kenny was mentally weak and entitled, but at the end of the day he made the business decision best for him, just like PIT.

Actually I wasn't. I was being honest. Now I'm going to put forth a scenario. Mind you, this is predicated on the new NFL (which is Offensive driven and a few steps away from Flag Football).Pabst wrote: ↑Fri Apr 12, 2024 7:06 pmAgree, but I think gojira was being sarcastic.Ice wrote: ↑Fri Apr 12, 2024 6:35 pmIf Jones pans out to his ceiling at LT, he's more valuable than any CB not in the Rod Woodson stratosphere.gojira5150 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 10, 2024 5:32 pm

Would you guys rather have 2 lockdown CB's and an average LT or 1 Lockdown CB, an average CB and Above average LT (as we have No idea how Jones will be at LT as he played RT last year and there were those here saying he wasn't that good at RT).
I'd rather have 2 lockdown CB's and an average LT. Here's why. This NFL is now about offensive output and let's use the Bungles as an example. If we have 2 lockdown CB's (JPJ & Gonzalez) they can neutralize Chase & Higgins and limit what Burrow can do. Effectively turning them 1 dimensional and sending Watt & Highsmith on a Search & Destroy mission. This duo would neutralize many WR duos in this league while we would still be able to run the offense Smith wants to run with an average LT. Also, this team is always looking for CB's. Why not take the top 2 in last year's draft and be done with it. That's what forward thinking teams do. You have now locked up CB for some years. Turning a weakness into a strength.
Plus, I like Fields as he adds another dimension that D's have to account for. Also, he was drafted by one of the worse org's for rookie QB's, let alone an Org that pretty much has No idea about Offenses. Once they did get DJ Moore, Fields started to play better. Steelers have some offensive talent and I think he will flourish in a Smith offense. I hope he's the starter. I know many here who don't like him but finding a QB is HARD and there's No QB's coming out next year who are better, IMO.
Lastly, I HOPE they don't draft Mims in the 1st as this dude has Boom or Bust written all over him. No C either. Go BPA as under Cool Breeze drafting for need has gone horribly wrong.

Still, the idea that a blogger in Kentucky is privvy to conversations between Tomlin and Minkah is nonsense.

I like Fields but the Steelers and Tomlin keep looking for warm/fuzzy happy endings with failed 1st round QBs and I think they will get the same result here. I'm sure Tomlin either lied to KP (or ignored him) until Russ was signed. I'm 100% sure Tomlin would lie about all of this to the media to make himself look like he's always fair (and honest) to ALL players -- which he isn't, of course.
Either way, we have better (more physically gifted at least) QBs in the room (I think?).
MR and KP got screwed by Mike "the players coach" Tomlin in the process. But hey, as long as his Teflon stays in tact he's all good.![]()

Let’s get a few things straight in this bs thread lol
1. Coaches DO NOT discuss trade talks with players and they have every right not to.
2. Pickett sucked. He not just horrible. He was horrible on a historic level. He was given a long leash and was mostly a failure for 2 years
3. Going into Pickett’s third year no one in their right mind would say he’s earned the right to be the unchallenged starter. He was going to have SOME competition for the starting job. Rudolph ? A draft pick ? A free agent signing ? Hard to say for sure but it was going to be someone(s)
4. Rudolph played ok at the end of last year. He was far from great. In the only game that mattered he put up his first TD near the end of the 1st half down 21-0. His leading receiver for that game was Friermuth with a perfectly less than acceptable 5 for 76 yards and zero TDs. A better QB than Pickett after 4 years probably but not a post season capable guy and absolutely not a guy who is your first choice to C2 as a backup. If he’s pissed off at Tomlin/Steelers so what. He’s not that good AND they gave him a chance to shine at the absolute optimum time to maximize a C2. He ought to be grateful
5. Wilson was a great QB earlier in his career. Can he return even just somewhat to that ?? Possibly. Not highly likely to be stellar but I think most would say highly likely to be better than both Pickett and Rudolph. Did Tomlin tell him he has the starter pole position ?? Again who cares. That shit can and does change on a dime if his play doesn’t earn it over his competition and again, he’s not unbeatable at this point in his career. Wilson also jumped on board for an exceedingly cap friendly deal.
6. Fields. Let’s cut to the chase. Another very cap friendly deal. As a QB he’s mostly been on par with Pickett and Rudolph in the QB performance department but he does have some notable athletic ability. SOMEBODY has to be a backup right ??
7. Back to Kenny Touchdown. Not only does he suck as a QB but it becomes VERY apparent over multiple instances he lacks heart and has a good amount of pussy to his makeup as a football player. You are the round one draft pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers in the middle of a 5 year rookie deal and you openly pout while a career backup has some slight success at the end of a mediocre year for the team ?? Then when a 37 yr old shell of his former self and a backup QB are signed in the off-season you go super pussy and won’t return calls to coaches who drafted you at 20 and heretofore heaped praise on you ?? Go fuck yourself. You aren’t good enough for a justified bitch fit. And let’s be honest the real reason you left was because you know if the QB jobs were based solely on performance you wouldn’t come close to beating out 2 guys no other team in the NFL wanted. Enjoy one of the most reprehensible cities and fan bases in all of sports. You deserve each other
8. Tomlin’s job in this regard is to improve the QB room. He did that very cap friendly and likely to be better than Pickett and Rudolph. After that he doesn’t owe anyone anything

Howard Griffith had to resort to chop-blocking him during the 1997 AFC Championship Game. An incredulous Kirkland asked Griffith, “Why do you have to use cheap tactics like chop-blocking?” Griffith replied “Why do you have to be a 300-pound linebacker?”

Obliteration Is Imminent
I don't think the problem is defensive-minded coaches so much as one-dimensional coaches like Tomlin. He's never grown on the offensive side of the ball, and likely doesn't believe he needs to.
I think unless you get some lucky bounces, you need to be at least top-15 both in scoring defense AND offense. Andy Reid has been able to field complementary enough defenses. Belicheat won SBs with both approaches.
The Steelers simply haven't been very dynamic on either side of the ball for years. They take a simple approach and execute well enough, not beating themselves and are able to claw out NHALS. But that's also why they're such an easy out in the playoffs. They're easy to gameplan and simply no match for a well-coached playoff team with comparable talent. Likely the only reason NHALS has survived this long is the star playmakers they've had pulling out some regular season wins out of their ass. But that's not nearly enough in the playoffs.

Worked out for all parties involved except maybe Wilson. Now he is the HOF quarterback, well past his prime, with unreasonable expectations placed on him, in an obsolete offense, with a risk averse coach. It’s 2021 Ben with a smaller shoe size.Stillchest wrote: ↑Mon Apr 08, 2024 8:39 pmAll good points!LakecrestSteeler wrote: ↑Mon Apr 08, 2024 8:29 pmI don’t think it is all that bad…kind of mundane…how else would it have gone down? It doesn’t seem like an exaggeration. I don’t think it really paints anyone in that bad of a light. Tomlin and Khan redid the QB room. Pickett got out of the Paleolithic era in terms of offense. Rudolph has a new lease on life. And it appears to have worked out for Fields.
Tomlin and Khan appear to have misread Pickett.
I am sure KP, agent, and father are all happy.
Kenny sees himself as a starter, and this is what a starter would do if he indeed is a starter.
TomKhan does not see KP as a starter and this is what a coach and GM would do in such a situation.
Time will tell who wins. Odds are it will be a wash and so diluted by time and picks nobody will care!
At the end of the day, it was a business decision.
I dislike Tomlin as a HC. I don't think he has the vision to build a successful, championship contending, modern football team but perhaps Khan does.
Pickett had Art II and Colbert's fingerprints on that selection, maybe more than Tomlin, but Tomlin did saddle Pickett and the offense with his unqualified OC for two seasons.
I agree with you, it likely has worked out for all parties involved.

But how is it that some people needed these things to be explained? And won't agree upon it being explained? Wild times.Jobu wrote: ↑Sun Apr 14, 2024 3:28 pmYep.
