Rip sir.

You will forever be remembered for all you did for the franchise, for the players, for the city, for the game and for us fans. A true Steeler. Thank you.

Years ago my buddy and I were standing outside the player entrance cheering as Bettis and Cowher and others pulled up in their cars and entered the stadium on game day. We hoot and hollered. My best friend yells to bill as he's walking in, " give em hell Bill!" Cower raised his fist to the air as if his reply was hell yes. Then moments later we see Dan Rooney walking up the sidewalk right past us and others into the stadium thru that players entrance. He yelled, "Dan your the man." Dan put his hand up and waived. We were excited as hell and didn't know until later that Dan walked to the games from his house on Sundays.

We're blessed to be fans of the greatest franchise in the NFL and most thankful Dan did all that he did to make it what it is today.

RIP.

Truly a shame the last steeler game played before his death was that debacle in New England. Deserved more than that.

RIP Mr Rooney. This one stings more than I ever would've thought.

I'm guessing that he had more perspective than the rest of us when it comes to handling a disappointing loss.

As a life long Steelers fan I want to say RIP Mr. Rooney. He is truly a Titan as a human being and Owner of the Greatest Franchise in NFL History.

It's interesting listening to the national talking heads on this. They keep talking about the Rooney rule, etc. One thing that doesn't get mentioned is the hiring of Bill Nunn as a scout. I think that's a much bigger story. Here's Nunn's quote.

“The whole structure started to change,” said Mr. Nunn. “To me, Dan and Chuck were the same type of person. I don’t think they see color, and I don’t say that about a lot of people. I say that sincerely"

RIP Mr. Rooney

Mr. Nunn was instrumental in making the Steelers a powerhouse. That was a GREAT hire by Mr. Rooney.

Owner's Box

In the owners box Art radiated power, connections. Like a Don and you don't fuck with the Don. Steelers, Yonkers Raceway, other holdings. Built an empire. Concrete block exterior, steel hands, with a marshmallow side. Feared and respected. Loved and revered.

Dan wasn't the underboss, a different leader. Never ever perceived as privileged offspring. Modest, humble, discreet, loyal, class, rationally strategic. Disciplined and stoic presence in the owners box. Witnessed it first hand. Dignity personified.

I have no significant reading on the current Rooney and some would say I have great instincts reading people. Time I met him the most distinguishing quality, he enjoyed being a Rooney, the power and wealth. In the owners box he was always Dan's kid, he graciously deferred to his dad. Pure respect. I know a lot of people have opinions of him but the truth is we're going to find out who he really is now.

That was classy of them. Oh, and fuck the slimeball Bengals fans.

I'm struck by how close Dan was to the players. So many of them seem so close to him and have such nice things to say. Who could forget Dan swaggin' with Ike?

Wow. Quite a stark contrast between the Ravens fans comments and the Bungles fans comments. Kudos to the Ravens fans for keeping it classy. As for the Bungles, those poor bastards will continue to be almost as bad a joke as the Browns.

Only now can I bring myself to add to this thread.
Very hard to find words to utter the admiration, respect, and honor I have for this man.

Mr. Rooney, you will be greatly missed by many people all over the world, but you live on through all whose lives you've impacted, and beyond the reach of this broken mortality.

Would that we could all look to your legacy and try just a little harder to measure up...

Deepest sympathies to the Rooney and Steeler families.

Truly, a great one has moved on...

Thanks to Dan Rooney, St. Peter has to go through the formality of interviewing the Facebook killer first in order for Dan to enter the pearly gates.

So do I understand correctly that your considered deliberations resulted in you choosing to go for political snark in this thread about the passing of Dan Rooney?

Bravo.

I'm sure Dan would enjoy racist jokes that mock his legacy of inclusion and encouraging diversity. Lighten up, Lit.
