If this happens does anyone though think Pickens is gonna be like

"WTF?

I work all through past few years and all through training camp on my rookie deal and your gonna bring him in without doing a thing with us at 28 million?

Think I will make some waves"

This year? No.

If he balls out this season? Yes, next offseason gets very interesting.

It's also GEORGE PICKENS INSURANCE!

If he realizes that this kind of deal could be on the horizon if he balls out and isn't a fucking dick every other game then it's a win/win.

Dolphins are paying top dollar for two elite WR's it's possible especially with our QB situation up in the air

I saw report SF offering 26 million

Pittsburgh offering 28 million

Because of CA taxes SF would have to offer him 31 million to make it the equivalent of Pittsburgh's 28.

So Steelers gonna get their Super Bowl winning piece because of Dem Damn Liberals!!!!

Agreed. And if they ball out and Wilson balls out then there is still the possibility they can pay all three? Why? Who else on this offense makes money since our two highest paid players on offense are linemen?

It’s doable. Keep Pickens happy. Make cuts where necessary on defense (Heyward, etc.), new running backs if need be and if Wilson is worth keeping then do a 2 year deal. If he sucks then who we take in the first round next year is THE GUY.

And they just gave Tua a GIANT contract.

Maybe finally getting some resolution, I'm going to be really psyched for that receiving room if/when Aiyuk is added. Could be what they need to finally get back to a real offense similar to the killer Bs era.

Looks like the forecast is going to include a shitload of deep balls this year, if yesterday's practice that saw both RW and Fields completing 50+ air yard balls during it is any indication; don't remember seeing reports like that from the trio of dumbasses we had in the QB room last year during camp.

Could be very interesting to watch the O this season.

No way they pay for Aiyuk and Pickens.
When have they ever paid huge money to two WR’s.
Plus Smiths offense likes RB’s and TE’s.
If they pay Aiyuk Pickens is a goner, I think they’d be happy with that because they realize Pickens is a problem.

How’s that worked out lately? You need stars to score. I don’t know if it’s likely but it’s certainly doable. We might have a traffic cone playing QB next season…

This group ain't your SOS (same old Steelers). Things are being run much different, and with a new sense of urgency now that we're a year removed from Colbert being GM. I'm not going to be surprised by anything with this group.

Not too mention they probably won't need to be paying a franchise QB salary when it comes time to pay Pickens, or if they are then it means one of the two current ones has made a deep run into the POs, which would be a great thing.

If we may return to shitting on the Browns for a second....

Their 2nd round pick just found himself in a whole lot of trouble:
According to the report, Hall "began yelling at (name redacted), shouting profanities," which was described by her as "insane." He continued to "go back and forth between the kitchen and their bedroom," the report states, "gathering (name redacted's) belongings and throwing them outside" while also demanding that "she leave."

Hall then, according to the report, "attempted to physically force her out by pushing her from behind toward the front door." When she sat down against the front door to "prevent (Hall) from pushing her outside," the report states, Hall "grabbed (name redacted) by the feet and dragged her on her back across the porch and down to the end of the driveway," which scraped her arms against the concrete.

The incident escalated when Hall "retrieved one of his two handguns," according to the report. The exact model was identified as "either a .40 caliber Glock 23 or a 9mm Smith & Wesson M&P Shield"

Hall, the report states, "pressed the firearm against her temple and threated, 'I will (expletive) end it all. I don't care."

The two women fled outside of the house, where they contacted the police. Hall then, according to the report, "locked the women out of the residence and fled the scene in his vehicle."

I think the pursuit of Aiyuk is partially driven by them not seeing Pickens having a future here past his rookie deal.

Would be shocked if Pickens isn't holding out by this time next year.

Still think there's a 70% chance he signs a new deal with the 49ers.

:D

I think it's going to play out for at least another week, maybe two. Both the 49ers and Steelers are working the media hard with strategic leaks. I don't think anything has really changed the last few days.

The 49ers and Aiyuk have been "close" for a long time now. The Steelers have been in a great position and have thought they've done enough to get the deal done for some time. Hell, they thought the deal was done in April on draft weekend but it fell through. The Steelers have a legitimate chance to land him, but it will probably play out for another week or two. Either the 49ers cave and offer a fat contract to him, or I think they'll blink and deal him to us for a 2nd and change.

Yeah, we were the useful idiot in this situation, and hopefully made Aiyuk a few extra million off the Niners' cap. Would have been nice to have had a plan B in all of this.

I would be excited about this if Ben was still in his prime, but with Wilson and Fields, what's the point if it's Aiyuk or Some 2nd tier wr. The only thing that is going to happen if he signs is having 2 pissed off cry babies who aren't getting the ball enough.

I'm a little confused here.

The Niners are offering Aiyuk 26 million per year.

The Steelers have an offer (if a trade is made) that will pay Aiyuk 28 million (it is believed they might go up as high as 30 million per.)

Aiyuk has been clear saying he will not play for the Niners on his 5th year option.

The Niners, due to the salary cap and the fact they are already paying huge money to Kittle, McCaffrey, Deebo and a few members of their o-line make big cash along with the fact they are going to need to pony up big money (definitely more than that choker Tua is making) for Brock Purdy, are not going to be able to offer Aiyuk more than 26 million. Fuck, I don't have ANY idea how they can offer Aiyuk that much money on a long term deal.

Why would he accept up to 4 million less per year than he could get, because the Niners are a contender? I'll believe Aiyuk takes less money when I see it.

The days of a hometown discount are over or I should say, they are very rare. Mahomes takes less money for the Chiefs and Brady did before him. Why? Those guys are winning Super Bowls at an alarming rate and made/are making ABSOLUTE SHITLOADS of money hawking products on TV.

You aren't going to see any TV commercials with Brandon Aiyuk on them.

BA is playing everyone. For about 10 days all I’ve heard from the media is “he wants to play for the Steelers”. My initial thought way back on like page 3 of this thread was…why?

He’s gonna sign with SF and was trying to earn leverage by “saying” he wanted to play in Pittsburgh. I can’t prove it but that’s my guess at this point.

What WR wants to come to this shitshow of a team with an emphasis on running the ball, a QB room with one geriatric and an idiot that plays like a pussy in the pocket. BA is on a legit contender and he’s gonna get paid by them.

KC, I think you might have hit on the reported "sticking point" in the negotiations. I'm guessing they want him to take less money this year than other teams offered, and it could also be the offsets for the big CA state tax hit, or both.

Probably some pride involved, as well, since, despite the fact that he's not really a #1 WR, and despite what Aiyuk has done the last couple seasons, Deebo is seen as the top guy in that room in SF, by fans and Shanahan, who apparently has a very close relationship with him and less of one with Aiyuk.

Answering your question as to “why” a player, especially a WR would like to come to Pittsburgh to play for Tomlin and in this offense is easy: money. The answer is money. When Aiyuk can make up to 4 more million dollars per season, why would Aiyuk or any player who has a limited time (under 10 years, probably more like 5-7) to earn major cash take up to 4 million dollars per season less? Winning obviously is important but Aiyuk would be passing on, low end 8-10 million in earnings to stay in San Francisco…..and with Mahomes in his prime, there’s no guarantee Aiyuk ever leaves San Fran with a ring.
