Re: Nelson wants to be traded
Will the Steelers make the playoffs in 2021?
Before free agency I was at about 75% on the playoffs. Now I’m at about 50%. That’s not to say that I think the Steelers will suck but a lot of new starters will have to step up in a big way, or we may be struggling yet again.
As far as Steven Nelson, he’s another quality starter that I didn’t even consider losing. Depot has an article about how Sutton’s role is part of this.

depot is so so far behind the news on this.Stallworth16 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 20, 2021 10:35 pmWill the Steelers make the playoffs in 2021?

Nelson’s interest in being paid like a top 5 CB is the only driving thing for this news. If anything, James Pierre’s development impacts Nelson’s situation more than Sutton does.

Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile...
Honestly? I think if they want to trade Nelson it is probably to free up money to make a play to sign Big Al to keep him at LT. I bet Colbert/Tomlin/Ben, all of them are bedwetting over the thought of a rookie LT, or an inexperienced Chuks or Banner starting at LT for the first time.

In their current state, I hate everything about this organization.

someone suggested a Trade for Ertez
I'd be happy with that. Resign James, cut Ebron and draft a better blocker late or sign one in FA. TE is fixed and you don't have to worry about it with any of your high picks. Sutton then gets to earn his money as a starter.
Howard Griffith had to resort to chop-blocking him during the 1997 AFC Championship Game. An incredulous Kirkland asked Griffith, “Why do you have to use cheap tactics like chop-blocking?” Griffith replied “Why do you have to be a 300-pound linebacker?”
Steven Nelson for Zach Ertz ...sounds fair to me.

If we’re looking to acquire past their prime Stanford guys then I say bring in Richard Sherman to offset the loss of Nelson.

I don't know if Ertz was hurt, extremely disgruntled and gave up or what. But last year he looked like he dropped off a cliff, skill-wise. He was flat out terrible (compared to where he was before. I know he wants out of Philly (maybe to be closer to his wife in CHI, I think) and wants a new big contract (Mo'Money).
If we got the Ertz of old and our OC/Ben used him correctly, I would do it. Otherwise, no thanks.
Well Ertz did miss 5 games in 2020, plus his QB situation was a mess. In 17, 18, and 19 he was pretty darn good. Just saying...DP39 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 22, 2021 12:56 pmI don't know if Ertz was hurt, extremely disgruntled and gave up or what. But last year he looked like he dropped off a cliff, skill-wise. Not to mention the screaming matches in the building between him and the GM couldn’t help the situation.Jobu wrote: ↑Mon Mar 22, 2021 1:10 pmWell Ertz did miss 5 games in 2020, plus his QB situation was a mess. No way I’d spend cap money the team doesn’t have (or even consider blowing draft capital) on Zach Ertz. He just doesn’t move the needle nearly enough for me.Thrillsseeker wrote: ↑Mon Mar 22, 2021 2:13 pmNot to mention the screaming matches in the building between him and the GM couldn’t help the situation.Jobu wrote: ↑Mon Mar 22, 2021 1:10 pmWell Ertz did miss 5 games in 2020, plus his QB situation was a mess. If you acquire Ertz, you can immediately shit can Eric Ebron.
Ertz can catch, he can block, and he’s not a social media big mouth...win, win, win.
So, Ertz for Nelson is a wash, cap wise. Cutting Ebron gives you 5.5 mil.
Of course it’s not going to happen, just something to talk about, I guess.

Not smart operation of a football team.
You need to get a draft pick for Nelson.
I don't care if he asked to be traded.
Can't tell me a team with cap space did not want a starting CB.

I don't know. It seems like this hostage bullshit is happening a lot with this team recently.
Sick about hearing players complain when they don't get a new contract.
Why can't these guys play out their contracts anymore? Not like he's a stud...yes, of course we don't have any depth now, something we finally were able to achieve recent years.
Nelson can effectively veto a trade by refusing to report to his new team. If he's disgruntled and won't play without a new contract, then the Steelers would need to find a trade partner AND have Nelson agree to new terms. Pretty much killed his value.

Mfs think they was in them contract talks hilarious just shows how racist that city was
Nelson was taking shots at the Chiefs for over a year after he left: https://www.kansascity.com/sports/spt-c ... 263046.htm
Spare me the "I'm not usually like this" BS.
One last thing: This saves $8.25m against the cap.
1) you also made a decision back when you signed the contract that stated you would be paid X amount for X number of years of service. Thus far, the team has honored their end of the contract. It’s you changing the terms and making demands.you guys made your decision please don’t hold me hostage
Honor your contract cunt.
2) A hostage is someone held against their will and were likely taken into captivity by force. Hostages are not employees with multi-million dollar contracts. Contracts which they signed under their own free will and under the guidance of their agent/attorney.
Honor your contract cunt.
And fuck this team for caving to these demands over and over.

While we save the necessary cap space (only a few places left to get any meaningful amount), it sucks that we couldn't get a draft pick for him.
Trades and draft value (trading or working the comp system) are certainly not strong suits for our PS.

Losing Alualu, Dupree, Williams, Hilton and Nelson?
Second toughest schedule in the league?
Gonna be a great year ahead for Ben's swan song!

The Steelers organization lets some players walk all over them. They're usually weak negotiators, imo. Anything to keep the peace, I guess.
