They could have picked somebody already on the roster to be a gunner.

Who fits that criteria that isn't already a primary ST's player?

I'm not even that much of a Tomlin fan... Just laughing at this point at the Hater Nation that thinks there is any quick fix. Seriously, what the fuck would you do if you were in the driver's seat- and back it up.

Yeah- reality bites. Deal with it.

Oh, and Wes Johnson has done NOTHING to date. Not one fucking thing. So keep that in mind while you work up the bile... He wasn't the "future of the franchise" or anything close to it. He is actually somewhere between Tony Hills and Doug Legursky in the big scheme of things, except Doug Legursky actually did something, and Wes Johnson couldn't beat out Mike Adams.

He's also a 5th round rookie from THIS draft class. Nobody expected him to do anything THIS season. People are saying it was a shortsighted move which it was. I don't know what you don't understand about this. It was short sighted. We can't continue to lose draft picks like we have either through FA or just outright cutting them before even given a chance to prove themselves. It's how we've ended up with this talent deficient roster. Cutting a 5th round OLinemen who we need to coach up for a 1 week rental at gunner is a terrible strategic move. How important is a gunner for one Sunday vs. a guy who could potentially be OLine depth (or maybe a starter) down the road? We've struggled with injuries at OLine for several consecutive seasons. Don't you think it would be prudent to have ample reserves? Especially one that you just spent a 5th round pick on. We could have signed some clown off the street as an oline development and used that 5th round pick on another area of need. Instead it goes down as another wasted pick in the Colbert/Tomlin regime. It wouldn't mean as much if this wasn't a trend with these guys. Case in point, look at the 2008 and 2009 drafts, not a single guy still on the roster. If you include 2010 I think we have 3 guys from those 3 classes. We're squandering drafts and you can't do that in a franchise that prides itself on building through the drafts and developing talent.

I cant see how anyone is surprised by this move. This is the same mensa club that used a 3rd on Craig Urbik in 2009, didnt play him in his rookie year then cuts him before camp was over in 2010.
I wonder if Munchak was even consulted.

There's one indisputable fact that everyone seems to be ignoring here. Rusty Benson has way better hair than Wes Johnson. It's not even close. Hair like that shouldn't be wasted on the practice squad when there's an opportunity to put that hair on the field a handful of times each game on special teams as the 143rd defensive back.

It's similar to Ta'amu.

Trade a sixth to move up in the 4th because you have need and he had the measurables.

Then cut him after giving him a year.

Then turn around and draft another guy. He doesn't get a hat.

So three picks spent on dline yet we have zero to show for it in the field.

I realize McCullers is green and needs to learn.

Would we have not been in better shape had we held onto Ta'amu who by all reports has looked good in AZ?

I would have preferred Ta'amu starting at NT Monday instead of that fat fucking slug Thomas.

And next year we will be burning another pick on another mid round OT who won't be ready to contribute either. Rinse repeat.

It's calling spinning your wheels.

Ta'amu has been fairly injury prone in AZ and hasn't done enough to get significant snaps in 3 years. But I get what your saying 95. This team drafts them for other teams to gain any benefit from. It's truly infuriating/sickening.
