I see what you did there
Cortez gets extended
Re: Cortez gets extended
LOL making a conclusion based on week one of the regular season.
The Patriots have made the playoffs every year but two since Brady has been their QB- he's signed TWO extensions in that time...they havent' missed a beat- 5 Super Bowls, 8 AFCCGs in Brady's
Jury is out on the Packers- they just paid Rodgers franchise money last year- they did make the playoffs at 8-7-1...but remember Rodgers was hurt much of the season. Still- only one year of impact on the team so far.
Brees signed his extension in 2012. The Saints went 7-9 that season, but that was the Bountygate deal. Last season they finished 11-5.
San Diego extended Rivers in 2009- they went 13-3, 9-7, 8-8, 7-9, and 9-7. You can say they struggled.
Same for the G-Men...8-8, 10-6, 9-7, 9-7, and 7-9 in the five years since Eli signed his extension. However- they won a Super Bowl in that time and their record wasn't all that hot BEFORE Eli signed his extension.
So I'm not sure what you're trying to prove when two of the five teams on your list showed they coule field a playoff-contending team with a QB getting paid franchise money, and the jury is out on a third.
But don't let me get in the way of your mutual admiration society!

At least his post has a few facts in it
Your is based off your own perception of your own perception
Hate to have to repeat it, but nobody really considers you an authority. All we know about GB, NE, NO, etc is that they're all 0-1

I only PERCEIVED that the Patriots and Saints continued to field playoff-caliber teams after signing their QBs to franchise money?
Really? I didn't realize that whether or not they made the playoffs was a matter of perception.
Silly me.
But to get back to the point of the OP- IF Cortez Allen becomes a very good corner, than this is a fair deal, HOWEVER...
...it's still a gamble signing that was made because we have nobody at cornerback to take his place should he depart next season.

its a bad signing if it doesn't work out, HOWEVER if he becomes a really productive football player and remains really consistent and creates matchup nightmares for divisional foes like AJ Green and Torry Smith then this signing will like a complete bargain in a few years with a core player signed at such a cheap price
See, I can spin words too. Have a blessed day

So you believe we ought to pay players a premium salary when we are not sure whether they have the potential or not to be a premium player?
If so...OK.
I happen to believe differently.
But I understand why the Steelers did it- they have no replacement at corner if Allen leaves.

I guess here is our disconnect
Who isn't sure about who's potential? You and your CBS feed? Its not even enough to cast a doubt in my mind
It isn't science, its coaching. When the tools are there, you take a chance that player X responds to what you have to offer. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't
I don't buy into pro football focus, or herd mentality of a message board, or anyone one mans opinion. If you believe "differently" thats fine as long as you're not trying to pass it off as truth. My belief is they employ talent evaluators and you aren't one of them for a reason. And if I have to spell it out its because you're not capable of doing it. So I like to usually err on the side of the benefit of the doubt. You can talk about Willie Colon and Lamar Woodley and the injuries that derailed the visions they had for those players. But you also need to talk about all the good contracts they've signed too

The "talent evaluators" have gotten an awful lot wrong lately, which is why i don't just assume they know what they are doing.
The talent evaluators thought Jonathan Scott could play LT.
They thought Gilbert and Adams were worth premium picks.
Colon was injury-prone and not all that good to begin with, and Woodley's problems were far more than the couple of injuries he suffered.
So I don't automatically just appeal to authority like you do (well, except when those authorities make a decision...well...you know the drill...)

I don't disagree more things have gone wrong than in years past. But the good still outweighs the bad in my mind. I'm Ok if a player isn't a pro bowler until his 5th year. I'm ok if they don't start as rookies. I look at every acquisition as a 10 year plan. Hard to fault them in my mind for Woodley or Colon because injuries derailed both.
We're just now going to start getting into the years of Gilbert where the light will come on. Apparently they think it will come on going forward. No point in you or I arguing that because we don't have the information to do so.
Stick to thinking that you're good with alarm clocks

Can't wait 5 years for the light to go on anymore.
It's a changed league.

If you actually watched the last game twice and watched Allen's coverage using All-22, which shows stuff off the ball, then you know why the Steelers signed him. If you didn't, then you haven't seen enough of him.
This week will be different. Cleveland was scared of him but they have shitty WR's and a QB they don't really trust. Ravens will be a different story... I will tell you what I think next Wed/Thurs...
Fucking NFL.

Except when those talent evaluators completely disagree with your OPINION then they are no longer the respected expert.
This routine is soooo tired. You really can't keep this schtick up if you don't apply it to your own opinions as well.
Holy shit. Pot, kettle. You know the rest.
And if I need to spell it out for you, if you are going to berate and disparage others for disagreeing with your "experts" then you shouldn't disagree with them either.
And like Jeemie said, these are the same "experts" who though Jon Scott could play LT in the NFL.
Nuff said there.

If it's any consolation, you 2 are one in the same to me. Have to talk shit bc you don't know shit
Enjoy the game
Allen is looking AWESOME tonight.
He's really earning his paycheck.

No he's not but it won't matter if they fix the run defense off right tackle

Translation, this guy just called me out on my bullshit so I have to resort to more personal insults to save face.
Those that have been following along know what a hypocritical phony you are.
I don't need to point it out. But I do.
Because it's so damn easy. Unless you actually believe you know more than your own "experts". Otherwise, pleases explain why it's ok for you to disagree with them but not others?
I'll wait for your response...
