I am also ok by this, however, Ben is probably taking a DEEP sigh right now.

It's up to him too, he could say he already went through a $100 million contract, does he demand another or take the Brady route and take it easy on the Steelers, ignoring Dalton's $19 or so a year deal and settle for something less PER year?

I think he'll go the Brady route. Ben wants to win and I highly doubt he'd hijack the team just to out-earn Flacco and Dalton. Steelers will still take care of him though

WOW. He's winning way more than losing in the reg season, but that's a hell of deal for a dude with his play off numbers. QB contracts are just getting nuts.

I also believe Ben wants to win more than almost anything. He doesn’t want to be totally disrespected but at the same time knows he has more money than he’ll every need if he is in any way smart with it. I think he would love to get a ring and then point out that Flacco & Dalton took so much money that it hurt the team around them but he made sure he didn’t handicap the roster by making it all about him.

Time will tell but I’m guessing both sides will be happy with the deal that gets done next summer.

Gotta see the details. I wonder whether there aren't some nice performance clauses in this contract.

It's getting crazy...very few QB's are worth $20M/yr and even that's debateable....talking like 15% of your cap.

I wouldn't get too excited about Ben taking less than $20M/yr....Brady is the only one that does that, but then he's the only one with a wife making $50M a year.

From rotoworld...

While it looks like a ton of money on paper, this is certainly going to be a pay-as-you-go deal like the 49ers handed Colin Kaepernick earlier in the offseason. A very small portion of the deal will actually be fully guaranteed, and Dalton is going to have to earn his salary with his play. There's just no middle ground for teams to go off of when paying their quarterbacks. It's all or nothing. Dalton's $19.1 million annual average in new money puts him in the top ten among signal callers. It's quite a haul for a player who's yet to win a playoff game. http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/6493/andy-dalton

Seems about right to me.

Sort of off topic, but is there anywhere the full contract the players sign gets published? Kind of interested how one of these finalized deals look. I know agents have access to them in a database, but not sure the public does. I imagine not.

I'm not all that concerned about the structure of Daltons deal...I've seen enough to know he isn't the answer and I would have dealt him for what I could have got or let him walk...took a flier on Johnny Football...maybe sign Mcnown and grabbed Fales late.

Congrats to Andy Dalton on his new deal.If Andy is worth 115mil w/no playoff wins, what is Ben worth?Things just got interesting. #PAYBIGBEN https://twitter.com/CharlieBatch16/stat ... 0293927936

Perhaps the bunguls aren't as dumb as everyone thinks.

I think the contract will have quite a few performance clauses. I rather highly doubt the Bengals designed the contract hoping to screw the Steelers by driving up Ben's price. The new QB payola era began with Flacco's wild ass contract. This is just the new reality.

Perhaps or just maybe the Bengals overpaid and pushed themselves into a corner. Im not worried about Ben's extension and never have been. He will get paid and I have no doubt his contract will be done in a way that doesnt cripple the PS. The problem with Dalton's contract is if he does perform ok and wins a few playoffs games his cap hits will mean the Bengals talented roster will begin to evaporate. You cant pay everyone and can you imagine the money AJ Green will want in a season or two? Bengals are now handcuffed to Dalton for better or worse.

they had not choice, they have to pay him

what else are they going to do?

He's been to playoffs 3 straight years, only QB in division that can say that right now.

Its not only Dalton that doesn't know how to wind in postseason, its the whole damned team and Marvin Lewis.

He got market value

Very intersting article about Dalton's issues that came out just before the contract was announced

http://grantland.com/features/andy-dalt ... -pressure/

Man...... can you imaging what Ben would look like if he got as little pressure as Dalton does.......

Love it, love it, love it! Another high-paid choker ala Cornhole Carson to keep them out of contention for years.

I am not at all worried about Ben's extension. I guess logically that is odd, but, I just feel it will get done in due time and be fair to Ben and the Steelers. This I have faith in.

Total money on paper is irrelevant. Structure is going to be key. See Kaepernick.

I'm just happy to have him around a few more years. They have talent all over that roster...and I think they start the drop this year. If you and I recognize him as a choking dog the Bengals know it to. That wears on a team...it's like Stewart...those teams underachieved because they knew he couldn't get it done.

I saw on Twitter it was only $17M guaranteed.

According to Hitler, and some others on this board, it's the total contract value that matters.

Well, it's an additional 5 years and supposedly $115M in new money (which he clearly won't see all of). Base/bonus have to average at least $18M per year. Maybe not much dead money if cut after next year, but as long as Dalton remains their QB they'll have about $16M less in cap space than they do now going forward.

It's certainly not going to cost them AJ Green, but f Marvin Jones continues to emerge they might not be able to afford him.

He'll have pocketed 22M if he can stay on the roster through march.

Lot of people have been looking at things from a "how much does he pocket in first three years" perspective, which is reasonable (and I don't think we have an answer as yet).

Who has ever said that? I assume this was directed at me, and I can only conclude that after all the back and forth you STILL don't understand basic concepts.

It would be an early on in the war Hitler after the Dalton signing...More like just after France...."Zummon weinführer Otto Klaebisch from Champagne...and git Dr Morell with my amphetamine and eukodol injection..."
