You simply cannot measure the social, political and economic impact Chuck had on the city and the state. One man made a huge difference. There's lesson in this.

On Sept 7 I will be appropriately adorned.

Nice honor...indeed, Chuck would have hated the fuss, but he deserves it.

Any word on whether or not The NFL Network as something planned to coincide with this? My guess is probably not.

They'll have a black screen with a photo of Chuck Noll and his dates of birth and death as the intro to a commercial break at some point during the NFL Game Day broadcast.

Heinz Field should be renamed Chuck Noll Field. It'll never happen because of the money they receive from Heinz, but it should.

I agree with Jack. The Emperor deserves much more than a practice field.

I understand the need to generate revenue, but I never liked the naming of stadia after corporations. I miss the "organically named" stadia like Three Rivers Stadium, Candlestick Park, Lambeau Field. They sound so much nicer than QualTechGadget.com Stadium. I might give Heinz a pass since that is a truly Pittsburgh business that's been around a long time and is part of the fabric of the city.

Great point Polt. Back in '01 I remember speculation that the new stadium might be named Iron City Stadium after the beer (or maybe our esteemed fellow poster). Thought it was a great idea.
