Lebeau thread: Each week what Lebeau must do
Re: Lebeau thread: Each week what Lebeau must do
I think as usual you can expect a slow slugfest with one of the teams trying to come out chucking and hoping for a lead but inevitably it will return to run, TE/RB passes and occasional sideline bombs

Hard for Lebeau to defend the DPI calls Flaccid is going to get....
Gonna give the refs a shout out right now...

Indefensible if the Steelers play this as a slugfest Absolutely indefensible. Put our OL in a box, line up, and run at 'em-- we may be as bad as any team in the NFL. We need spread, misdirection, screen game-- all of this makes a guy like Bell so much better and puts us in positions where we can call just about anything and it stands a good chance of working.
If we simply try to line up and pound it, with the occasional bubble screen or deep sideline pattern from closed formations-- we'll struggle to put up 20 vs the Ravens.

I agree with you and I think the Steelers may try that early but won't keep at it

Ravens offense is easy to describe:
- long ball for PI
- dumpoffs to rbs/TEs
that's about it
the key is for Ike not to get called for PI while defending Torrey Smith
the second key is for our LBs to shadow TEs and RBs closely because they'll be catching most of the passes

Force S.Smith and their run game to beat you. I expect Gavens to try and establish 34-37 mins of possession. This normally gives Dick palpitations.
BB should spread em out: 3-4 wides - get ball out quick. Force No huddle early and gas Suggs and Dumberville. If we score 24 it should be enough.
It should be spelled the Gayvens. Gavens gives the indication of a soft a, and a soft poaster.
Here's what LeBeau must do::
1) Prepare his team to hold the opponent to one fewer point than the Steelers score, by whatever means is most effective and most conducive to the skill sets his unit has. no one person's way is the "right way" to defend.
2) Repeat 1 the following week.
The defense is learning. Sounds like from the feedback people are given there are few cases where the defense is just being beat physically...it's just that they're not doing what they're supposed to be doing.
Hopefully, that comes with reps and practice. I am not skilled enough to know, but LeBeau was interviewed and sai at least a quarter of his defensive scheme is new. We have to expect growing pains.
Offense is going to have to carry them through their learning curve...it's just the way it is.

Some guy whose defense wasn't impregnable.

Lewis was clearly a class above during his prime, that was on the ass end of heavyweight boxing though, not much competition. He was a technician, for a big guy. Boring as fuck coming out of the Tyson comeback/meltdown.
No transition between the styles led to a cliff in popularity. I agree with whoever said there was a tangible buzz when heavyweight was in its heyday. I miss those days...simpler, more sociable times.
