Peyton A Far Better Leader Than Ben

Post by Legacy User » Mon Jul 28, 2014 11:02 pm

So says E. Sanders...the guy we should have let go for a 3rd round pick.

Sanders said on 104.3 The Fan in Denver that Manning’s leadership and determination to win goes far beyond that of Roethlisberger or any other teammate Sanders has ever had.

Leadership? What's his playoff record again? If leading his team to losses is considered leadership...so be it.

Gotta suck up to the new QB to get your catches. Manny's got some incentives in his contract I'm sure.

I actually believe that to be true. I believe Manning is a tremendous leader and likely has a work ethic that is unmatched in the NFL. I've always thought highly of P. Manning, as a person and a professional. I'm sure his characteristics resonate well with the locker room and particularly younger players.

He clearly has a narrow view of leadership, though my guess is he's right that Manning is more proactive than Ben about working with and coaching his WR's, staying late to work stuff out etc. It's not really a shot at Ben in my mind, as Manning has the repuation for this.

Should he have said it? That's a different matter.

How can anyone be upset with this? Peyton is a tremendous player and the product of a guy who played the game at a HOF level.

Peyton is as good as a coach and is clearly the best statistical QB in the league. Now Sanders will find that while all that is fine and dandy when its time to win a big game all that leadership becomes like a mill stone around his neck because he refuses to make the defense play anything but the pass.

If Ben had Peytons level of preparedness he would be an elite QB in everyone elses eyes (not just ours) ,he wouldnt take nearly as many shots, and he would make much more money than he's going to make next year

We know Peyton Manning has a rep for throwing teammates under the bus. Preparation and on field play are only a portion of leadership. IMO, chastising co-workers in public cancels out all the other stuff.

nah I don't hate him any more than I hate lifelongsteel and IC, who both agree with him

I think Sanders will have a big year in Denver... if there's one thing he had in college and didn't have in Pgh, it's the flow to the passing game where he was put in position to succeed most of the time. I figure he'll see the same in Denver, and he doesn't have to run the big receiver or deep threat stuff that's not who he is. We ALL agreed that Sanders as a #3 would be pretty damn good... well here it is.

I don't see any reason to get worked up over that statement. Roethlisberger is clutch on gamedays. He doesn't really strike me as the type of guy who will be quizzing his teammates on the gameplan and staying up until 2 a.m. watching extra film.

Howard Griffith had to resort to chop-blocking him during the 1997 AFC Championship Game. An incredulous Kirkland asked Griffith, “Why do you have to use cheap tactics like chop-blocking?” Griffith replied “Why do you have to be a 300-pound linebacker?”

Or yelling at them when they get lazy, or screaming at them when they make a mistake.

Some people respond to that style of leadership. That's not Ben's style. Maybe if he rode Sanders hard about the drops all last year PIT would have made the playoffs

Sanders has only been with the Broncos for part of the offseason and part of training camp, so he's really only commenting on the leadership he's witnessed from Manning so far and probably comparing it to the leadership Ben showed during the offseason and training camp.

He'll probably appreciate Ben's late-game leadership under pressure a lot more after he goes through a whole season with Manning.

Well, if one of the criteria for being a great leader is throwing teammates under bus then Peyton qualifies.

I can see how it would appear that Peyton is a better leader. I'm sure he get's what he wants inside his organization with no question, as in the team paying for offensive supporting cast, him having a big say in the offensive philosophy and design, him calling all the plays all the time... While Ben on the other is just told, "We'll pay for defense 1st and we'll try to make sure you aren't buddy-buddy with your OC, because we don't want you to have a big say in the offense, and sure you want to play no huddle, call the plays and throw, maybe we'll let you, but not as much as you want-you have little say." So sure, I'm sure it would seem that Peyton is in charge as opposed to Ben. Ben is the greatest QB Pittsburgh has ever had, BETTER than Bradshaw IMO, and so many fans bad mouth him. Not here necessarily, but you do hear it.

I wonder if Steeler fans will ever be ever able to realize that just because their players aren't looked at as the best of all time at their positions, it doesn't mean tehy're being slighted.

I have zero doubt that Peyton mannig has a stronger work ethic in practice than Ben. Hardly any QB has that work ethic.

That doesn't mean Sanders was saying Ben sucks or has no work ethic.

How many practices has Sanders had with Manning? Because that's where his work ethic comments were directed...staying after practice for extra work. A bit premature considering the sample sizes. He hasn't played a single game with Manning, yet he is going to comment on leadership? Sure as fuck looked like the entire Bronco team quit in the SB...

Fuck Sanders. Fuck Clark. Fuck every media queen yet to be purged from the roster....

I agree, and I'd also think, that Peyton get's what he wants more than Ben does. I believe Peyton could walk into a meeting and tell the OC exactly what he wants and they just do it, Ben not so much. Even though I think Ben deserves that too, IMO.
