Since a lot of fans think we need a vet backup QB this is another option. My 1st option for the vet QB so many fans are clamoring for was also Keenum. But after further thought even at 3.5M that was a lot.

Personally, I would just like to see both Rudolph and Hodges step up and do the job. But since a lot of fans think we need a vet backup QB this is another option.

I had already looked at spotrac a couple weeks ago and like so many others,Keenum stod out immediately. Seemed like the vet QB answer fans here were interested in. For several reasons 31, 10yr vet, can win an nfl game etc. and I was also surprised he played for $3,500,000 last year.

Then I began seeing threads everywhere suggesting him and why not?

Ehh! Beause if Ben is okay, then even that is high.

So I took another look and near the bottom of the list was ---

Brett Hundley QB 27 ARI TBD 3 40 49 41 $1,875,000 UFA

Hmm! 27, can win an nfl game, is not particularly mistake prone, etc. 5 yr vet, little wear and tear etc.

Here are some stats in the 1 year he actually played.

Opp Result G GS Comp Att Pct Yds Avg TD Int Sck SckY Rate

NO L 17-26 1 1 12 25 48.0 87 3.5 0 1 1 8 39.9
pretty bad-- but his 1st start in week 7

DET L 17-30 1 1 26 38 68.4 245 6.4 0 0 3 12 86.0
not much better wk9 [wk 8 was better they had a bye]

@ CHI W 23-16 1 1 18 25 72.0 212 8.5 1 0 3 30 110.8
pretty good--see! he can win an nfl game.

Okay, the next few games are similar. He is horrible vs Bal, comes here to Pit and loses 31-28 and looks ehh! but two weeks later is very good at Cleveland.

But the point is he really is untested in these 5 years. Last year at AZ you know he is going to watch the #1 pick and not play. Think about it. GB 2015 2016 behind Rodgers. Similar to here. Sees little or no action. 2017 Rodgers hurt starts 9 games. Last year at AZ you know he is going to sit and watch the #1 pick. This guy actually is in his 2nd year in the NFL.

Personally, I would like to see both Rudolph and Hodges step up and do the job. But since a lot of fans think we need a vet backup QB, I think he is further advanced than our two rooks and might be worth a look. Watch his arm strength and accuracy in the CLE game on youtube. Oh, also he did not look as bad as I thought here in the 31-28 game--at least not on the highlights of the game on youtube.

Thoughts???

---Actually I don't think there will be any change and I also forgot about Lynch . But if there is no Ben--- next season would be a very long one. I really think they will have a #1 type D next year but with little or no offense you're lucky to go 7-9 or 8-8.

Now there is talk that they will be getting a QB coach. With all these inexperienced QB's here that would certainly be a plus. Oh yeah, I just remembered you recommended this in an earlier thread.

Adding Hundley to compete in this mix since he is no more than a rookie himself might prove interesting. What is funny about this is you know and I know they are not going to do anything in this area.

But just for laughs and I just checked this and I was correct. Handley has been in the league for 5 years and between Rudolph and Hodges they must have started more games than Hundley. Hundley started 9 games in 2017. That's it. Ben went down when? game 2 3 4 IDK so obviously one or the other started at least 12 13 or 14 games.

Now for just a few more laughs when GB played PIT here in 2017 here is how the QB's matched up.

B.Hundley 26 17 245 4/18 3 55 0 134.3 -------B.Roethlisberger 45 33 351 1/10 4 39 2 106.8

134.3 rating is very high.

He actually outdid the HOF QB in that game and it took some super heroics from the Steeler stars to pull that game out.

My point is I think the perception that he sucks is not entirely true. IDK the extent of the injury or why he did not play a snap in 2018----wait, I just looked it up on cbssports.com

"Hundley didn't record an offensive snap in 2018."

"The Seahawks sent a sixth-round pick to Green Bay in exchange for Hundley in August but he wasn't needed, as Russell Wilson played every game for the seventh straight season. Hundley will become an unrestricted free agent in March and projects as a serviceable backup quarterback wherever he lands."

This gets more hilarious by the minute. 5 years in the league and if Rodgers doesn't hurt his arm in 2017 he might not hve had to send his uniform to the laundry. [Now that's the kind of job I'm looking for]

First of all he is probably better than both Jones and Dobbs were and would give Rudoph a run for his money. But Ehh! If Ben is okay then this is all a moot point anyway. So I guess it's on to the Draft and get some more key players.
