NFL to add 7th playoff team in each conference
Starting next year
Fucking gay
Once 17th game starts that 7th seed 7-10 season is gonna be sweet

So one bye per conference?
Not like we are going to experience that.
Not like we are going to experience that.
So reward a lower achieving team at the expense of the higher achieving team.
I don’t like it either.
Can’t just leave well enough alone...

This is fantastic. This is tailor-made for Mike Tomlin you asshats - I think he'd have been the 7th seed like 4 of the 5 times we missed the playoffs.
Problem is, if he starts targeting the 7th seed now, then that string of never having a losing season could finally end-up in jeopardy.

Ben comes back, Tomlin doesn't = CHAMPIONSHIP!!!

There's a joke in there, but I can't say it

NFL getting screwed up like the MLB plan for playoffs
Obviously some of the 6th/7th teams might be playing the best ball at the end of the year. But the whole season does matter, and so where do you draw the line?
On the other hand, some of your 6/7 seeds are often bad team that borderline don't deserve to be in the playoffs. The other problem is MLB and the NBA had playoff SERIES.....The better team normally wins, or at least the clearly inferior team rarely does. But in a 1-and-done format you could have some pretty bad championship teams if you expand the playoffs to a 7th (and, eventually, an 8th team).

I'm almost about done with football. I dont get how they fucked it all up but they did. As soon as you think it cant get any worse, it does.
Just as well. The joke's not really accurate anyway.

Well that’s a matter of your opinion. And to say something isn’t accurate you’d have to be specific as to what isn’t accurate.
I can think of one very glaring example but it would derail the thread.

Not a fan. Devalues the regular season.
The proposals will do more to create a worst product and I am not talking abut the extra game or the playoff team. They already have less practices and not they want to get rid of preseason games. Coaches need time to teach these new players and evaluate them. How does that happen well with less practice time and less meaningless games to evaluate? Just means that September games are going to suck even worst for a couple of weeks.

Saw this morning Steelers and Rams would have been the 7th seed last year.
We would have played the 2 seed Chiefs and gotten freaking destroyed

Also, if they go to 17 games
Who decides what teams get 9 home games and what teams get 8?
Isn't that a fucking disadvantage to the teams that have to play 9 road games? WTF?

Not only that, there is also great potential to greatly alter post-season outcomes. Not a fan. Devalues the regular season.
Say we squeak in last year as the 7th and play the #2 seed Chiefs. We were in no way, shape, or form a playoff caliber team let alone a SB contender last season with our woeful offense. And it would matter not how good our defense was.
SF’s defense was damn good and we all saw what KC did to them when they turned on the jets.
So now the #2 plays that extra game, losing their bye. Say Mahomes rolls an ankle and is out 2-4 weeks.
Goodbye SB.
That could be us potentially next year as a #2. We finally put ourselves in good position only to see Mason or Donald Suck start the divisional game because Ben got injured.
Yes injuries happen and it’s part of the sport. But this extra playoff team has never been part of the sport and I do t see where at all it adds any value.
Having two teams get a bye greatly enhances the end of the season playoff chase. Makes it interesting and exciting. Knowing only one team will get a bye devalues the seeding.
Doesn’t the league make enough money already?
What next? Wildcard weekend played from Mexico City & London?

It will be even worse when they go to 17 games
Ravens clinch 1 seed in week 14. Play no starters for three games. Chiefs clinch 2 seed in week 15. Play no starters last 2 weeks. Etc, etc, etc
But NFL will ram it through and like they say in Full Metal Jacket

So are they calling this the “Tomlin Rule”?
“Ah, who cares about Seattle’s Space Needle? Dumb looking building, you can see the whole stupid town, built by some jagoff! Pittsburgh got Mt. Warshington, gorgeous hillside, beautiful views of the whole city, built by God…we win!” - Pittsburgh Dad
Don't like mediocre teams getting a free pass as the 7th seed. Will they stop at 7 teams.
When will they go to 8, when they realize, yes the top 2 teams do deserve a bye.
What about that 9th team that started 2-6... but won 7 of their last 8, finishing 9-7, while they may have been playing the best ball in the conference.
What about teams 10 thru 16...lol.
Does a 7th team making the playoffs mean Tomlin can extend the easing into the season a bit more.
Rather than first quarter of season....into first 5 games?
Ah...
Forgetaboutit.
Im just rambling on now.

Not to derail thread but quick poll.
Full Metal Jacket vs. Platoon. Which was the better movie about the Vietnam war?
I’m going to go with Platoon...

Apocolypse Now.
Mike Tomlin with an 8-9 record as the 7th seed playing on the road at the 2 seed?
Two movies you have to watch when on.
Platoon for me...
Defoe and Berenger played great roles.
Berenger played a great prick.
Kevin Dillon flat out nuts...
Nervous Sgt O'Neill with the great line.
Sgt. O'Neill : Bob, I got a bad feeling on this one, all right? I mean, I got a bad feeling. I don't think I'm gonna make it out of here. You understand what I'm saying to you?
Sgt. Barnes : Everybody got to die sometime, Red
The epic Defoe scene running from enemy and getting shot up on his knees with arms pointing to the sky.
Great movie

Outstanding movie as well. Especially given the year it was made and the quality of the cinematography etc.
However, Apocalypse Now was more about a story taking place within the war more so then a movie about the war. Splitting hairs here a bit I know.
Platoon was a great portrayal of what an infantryman would experience in Vietnam whereas Apocalypse was less about the war and more about the two men...
And if you’ve never sees Apocalypse, just watch the original. The Redux isn’t as good IMO. There is a reason those extra scenes didn’t make the original cut.

Hamburger Hill was a pretty crazy movie too.
Platoon is freaking awesome. May be Tom Berenger's best work.
To watch him and Charlie Sheen go against each other in that and then a few years later see them Buddy Buddy in Major League is pretty funny.

All 3 are great movies. The Siege of Firebase Gloria is also pretty good and stars R Lee Ermey from FMJ.
