Trade! The #Steelers are finalizing a deal to send a fifth-round pick in 2021 to the #Ravens for DL Chris Wormley and a seventh-round pick in 2021, source said. A rare intradivision trade. As @MikeGarafolo said, Wormley on the move.

Finding out from my old colleague who is a massive Baltimore fan. He was expendable after they acquired Campbell and Brockers.

Ravens defense is going to be tough.

They've lost a bunch of starters from last year.

This is a good move, nice depth addition. Good against the run. Was thought of as a potential first rounder going into his final season at Michigan.

Man, some of you guys live to bitch.

Physically, he's a Stephon Tuitt clone; not quite as powerful, but close. I like the pick up, but he's a DE, not a NT, imo. Also, if he moves on after next year, we should get a comp pick for him that covers the 5th for 7th trade.

Perhaps Wormley will play Heywards side with Cam sliding inside? Alualu can play along that line as well. Nice depth move.

With all these moves I guess we can conclude the Steelers target positions in the draft. OLine, TE and DLine... ;) FB? :P

I have to believe Balt thinks this guy is trash to trade him to us.

Not necessarily.

Think about it. They signed two big D-linemen in free agency. They also resigned Jihad Ward and Justin Ellis. Worley is in the last year of his rookie contract. Do they keep him, only to have him not play much, and have to pay him $2,133,000?? The last year of his rookie deal was increased because he met playing time escalators.

They (Ravens) are only flush with $6 million of cap space and that was helped by trading Wormley to us.

So, they get a 5th and 7th in 2021,and cap relief now, whereas best case scenario if he had stayed with the team and left in free agency in 2021 and signed a sizable contract, maybe they would have gotten a 6th or 7th comp pick in 2022?

I don't understand why more teams don't do this. Get value for the player now.

I want the Steelers to do something similar with Hilton, find a team that wants him and get a 4th rounder for him. Nickel backs can sign contracts anywhere from $16-25 million which is ludicrous considering that we signed Steven Nelson for $25 million, our starting CB. We aren't going to be able to sign Hilton to an extension, so we will watch him leave for free agency next year. When you have two 3rd round picks in Sutton and Layne to fall back on, why not deal Hilton now, get a 4th rounder? That 4th rounder could be a vertical deep threat WR, or a NT, or a Center/Guard, or a Safety, or an OLB, an ILB.

I get that they got value by trading him. I'm saying for a division opponent and the only team standing in their way of the division title, I have to believe they don't think he's very good to be trading him to us. The last thing they want to do is help the Steelers even with a backup.

Unless they feel the benefits they get from the trade outweighs the benefit we get. You wouldn't do a win/win divisional trade if you "thought" your win was bigger?

He is young, and his motivation factor could seemingly not be any higher given that this is the final year of his first contract and he must prove himself to a new team.

Independent of whether he can match Hargrave's physical talent or abilities on the DL, it looks like the Steelers will have a lot to develop and work with for next season creating a useful role for this guy.

Quite frankly, I don't think Harbaugh or the rest of the Ravens think that highly of us anymore. We have become the little punk that is held upside down by the bully. The Ravens are that big bad bully and they are holding us upside down by our ankles and shaking all of the lunch money from our pockets.

Or to put it another way, they are the bully that comes up to that unsuspecting nerd and performs an atomic wedgie.

We haven't made the playoffs in two years, our franchise QB is 38 and coming off a serious injury to his throwing arm, we don't have Bell or Brown or Shazier anymore.

The Ravens probably rightfully so, consider us a franchise that will soon be irrelevant so what is the harm in throwing them a little bone??

He only has to outperform LT Walton for this deal to be good. He’s not a Hargrave. He’s a run-stopping, 5-tech, 2-gap 3-4 DE. And he’s very good at it.

Just for discussion purposes... how about Feiler? Why not try to shop Feiler for a 2nd RND pick? Or even a 3rd? Which I believe he could earn them. Feiler has played well at LG and RT. Teams in need of OLine could be temped.

Feiler is going to be an All-Pro guard. There no way I’m moving him.

If you’re looking for someone to move, it’s James Washington. I’d take a mid 3rd for him without question. He’s not a speed guy, he’s was very good at what he does last year... but he’s not necessarily a good fit for this offense, in terms of making space for everyone else. This draft class makes him likely replaceable with a better fit. If there’s one thing I trust ... it’s the Steelers’ ability to identify WRs.

Even with the signing of Wisnewski? Potentially could net them more draft capital. Especially in a year with no 1st RND pick. While I believe [agree with your assessment] this is not the case..., it's still a possibility.

Could be a little "We don't sweat you" attached to this trade on the part of the Ravens.
Certainly not to the level of the Eagles shipping McNabb off to the Redskins.

I think it was just a good business decision on both sides.

Steelers struggle hitting on day 3 picks (Yes I know AB was a 6th)

Ravens love comp picks and trades to stockpile draft capital

And who knows what's in store for the upcoming season.
Wormley could be sitting at home playing Madden while the Ravens patiently await their opportunity to parlay their picks.

Strange days indeed

You are right to point out that he is not a Hargrave.

Tyson Alualu has been one of the team's better free agent signings of the past 5 seasons. If the Wormley trade netted returns on that level, even for one season, it would help to fill some of the void left from Hargrave's free agent splash.

I 'd be interested to see a DL of Wormley - Cam - Tuitt when they're in a base 3-4. Then, when they go with just 2 DL, Cam - Tuitt, with Wormley, Alualu and Buggs spelling Cam and Tuitt.

Wisniewski is a backup C/G or contingency plan if Banner/Chuks doesn't work out at RT.

Feiler is on the verge of being their best OL... no way they trade him.

I don't see what the Ravens have accomplished lately that they should be so full of themselves or be able to take us lightly.

Although Washington was terrible 2 years ago with Ben, he made great strides last season with 2 vastly inferior QB's.

With his confidence definitely up, I wouldn't be surprised if Washington has a very big year (if there actually is a football season).

He doesn't get a ton of separation but he can get up, has very long arms and has the frame to make tough catches (especially in the red zone).

Washington might never end up being a Pro Bowl level receiver, but I could definitely see him catching 60 balls with 6 TD's.

Having Roethlisberger back healthy (along with a healthy JuJu and Diontae who is likely headed for stardom) is going to allow Washington to get very little attention from defenses.
