Jameis Winston?
Yeah, all the fanboys that get all pissy over Ben’s cavalier attitude toward taking care of the football would just love this guy.

Someone posted a stat that 11 of Ben's 16 picks in 2018 went to.....you guessed it, Mr. Big Chest.

The biggest way to cut down on Ben's turnovers is to let him play, for 4 quarters, rather than ask him to play hero ball after Tomlin has mismanaged the game. A Ben that can spread the ball around and isn't handcuffed for 3 quarters could be an MVP...

I don’t know what the backup solution is, but I am absolutely certain that the solution will never involve Mason or Duck. These guys are not backup QB quality and are borderline 3rd string/practice squad quality.

We need a legit backup QB that can weather a storm if Ben gets dinged next season. If Tombert et. al. can’t figure this shit out before Week 1, well then they are dumber than a box of rocks.

We have a season’s worth of tape on Mason and Duck. They ain’t it.

I never want either guy as a starter, but they are both better than what we had last year.
Do you have an opinion on how one should drink bourbon during a plague, though?
Slowly. Never know when you’ll be able to get more.

He's still relatively young and could win games if anything happens to Roethlisberger (and let's face it, Ben may very well be at a place where him playing 16 games isn't exactly likely).

Dalton isn't an elite QB by any means, but I'd trust him more with our offense than either Jameis or Cam.

By the way, A really, REALLY good Bourbon. I myself am working on a 750 of '4 Roses' and let me tell you, the 104 proof is smooth as silk. 🥴
Unfortunately, most liquor stores around me are closed. But 104 proof and smooth? Is that on ice with an orange peel and a squirt of water? I'll have to look that up online.
Ya know I don't usually like to add anything. Rocks? Maybe the ones you get with a nice glassware kit that feel like, I wanna say granite? You put in the freezer and chill them. They obviously won't melt. The Four Roses brand is a decent distiller IMHO. I found this particular bottle at Costco. For $40 I couldn't resist. It's the Small Batch version. Very good. And yeah, for 104 proof it's as smooth as you'd expect. I drink it at room temp with no ice, no rocks and no added water drops. Sipping is recommended. A two finger pour on a Saturday or Sunday and I'm good for the weekend.

Also Love the Oban. Was a Christmas gift from my wife. Still have some of that too, Very good IMO. I also have my go to, 12 year old Glenlivet. I have some Woodford reserves. Now that was also a Costco purchase and at $39 I couldn't resist. Still have a bit of that left for my apocalypse.... ;) I'm pretty well stocked with Scotch and Bourbon for a while. Being that I'm the only Bourbon/Scotch drinker in my home. :D

I just don’t think Cam is right yet or he’d still be in Carolina. I think he needs about 3 or 4 months to actually get that foot right.
I agree with this too, Veritas. That said, I can see the cheats starting Hoyer in the meantime as Newton gets right and also drafting a QB this draft.

I’d like to know what his vision was before lasik to help me form an opinion. As someone who squinted his entire life and had lasik I know what not wearing corrective lenses would of been like for me. I’d been fucked. Legally blind without corrective lenses so if he was anywhere near my eyesight I say he’ll improve leaps ad bounds. If he’s no where near what my vision was then its more of an excuse. Squinting doesn't mean jack shit. IMO.

First, I was watching the reports and I can agree that Cam makes more sense in LA than in Pittsburgh- if he is more than 90% healthy. However, the Chargers are one of the few teams that are less active than we are in free agency.

Dalton is interesting. From a positive standpoint, Dalton is an upgrade over what we have but I have seen him crap away important games. If available I am sure the Bears would have made a lot of sense.

I am curious as to why the Bengals didn't get away from Dalton sooner but then I looked at that 17. 7 million they have on the books with him. That's starter money- no one is willing to take on that money in a trade and if he gets into FA then there is really no pure starter market for him now.

Also, DO NOT shy away from the Japanese or Taiwanese whiskies. There are some outstanding ones. More like scotch than bourbon.
Those Japanese whiskeys are friggin awesome!!! The only thing keeping them back is the name designation because they have the process down.

Dalton's flaw is that he folds like a lawn chair when under pressure. His decline has everything to do with Whitworth, Zeitler, Andre Smith, etc no longer being in Cincy.

I’d go sign Matt Moore. He’s shown time and time again that he can be a good backup, not to mention he would be a very cheap sign. I know his agent personally, he could be signed in an instant if the Steelers wanted to get another guy in the room.

Dalton immediately came to mind when I saw this thread

-Probably won't be looking for a huge payday or starting opportunity
-Can be a little more than a game manager (which is what MR and Duck are)
-Plays things safer than Jamies and Cam

He also might be willing to sign a 1 year deal so next year he could re evaluate his options

If you ever happen upon it in your travels do not pass up an opportunity to try Kavalan Fino. It’s a Taiwanese cask strength single malt finished in sherry cask. But not just any. Exclusive wood and cask that were used on their most prized wine. I believe it comes in at 112 proof.

Is said that the Scotches can’t replicate this due to the temperature differences between Scotland & Taiwan.

I typically don’t favor whiskies finished in sherry cask (just not my flavor preference) but this one is other worldly.

One of the best whiskies that has touched my lips.

Good luck finding it however.

Well that's part of the reason he's not in demand: if he didn't fold under pressure he'd be paid big bucks and not available at all

Every QB left on the marker has major flaws. But I'd say about all of them are better then our backups

But I doubt we have any money to sign these types so they'll roll the dice with MR and Duck.... again. Because we do what we do

The Steelers, year after year, look like fucking DOPES when it comes to the backup QB position. I’m not even talking specifically about Mason and Duck, who are awful. Even going back to Mike Vick and Landry Jones; whether signed off the street or wasted draft picks, for all of the success our organization has had in the draft, we’ve continued to botch the position.

I for one think Winston would be a fantastic signing. The dude is obviously talented; he’s a poor decision maker but in terms of downfield arm there are maybe 5 other QBs in the league that can do what he does.

He’s a turnover MACHINE; but can the guy come into the game and lead the guys down the field; in a PRO STYLE offense? Yes, he can. I’d try and lure Winston here. Unless San Diego or NE come knocking, he isn’t going to be a starter anywhere. In the Burgh; he’d be on the fast track to be backup QB day 1. Get him.

He’d also be on the fast track to being the starter as it isn’t a stretch to figure Ben gets dinged at some point.

Been a long time since I’ve sipped any kind of hard liquor. I used to enjoy some George Dickel sour mash. I liked it a lot better than the better-known Jack Daniel. But all that was prior to the day of the artisanal distillery—the savant in the porkpie who’s younger than most decent bottles of Scotch. Speaking of Scotch, I also used to drink some very nice single malts. Is that bar still dahn near Market Square, where they have the world’s largest selection of single malts? The guy who owned it was an education. Malty, Oaky, Smokey, Peaty…all the flavors of a single malt. No two alike. I went through a Glenlivet phase.

Few years ago I visited my cousin in the Bordeaux region of France. They had some “local” wines at the grocery store, made by “the guys down the road,” that would crush anything I’ve ever gotten at any wine store or restaurant in the U. S. Leggy, sassy, funky, feisty Bordeaux bombshells—like rockets with French accents. Mostly for about four Euros. Nothin but love for the French countryside. Wish I had the aptitude to pick up the language. Who knows what those people were saying? But they sure served up some great wines.

At the end of the day, Cam Newton is the kinda guy who runs from the scrum, with the game on the line and the ball on the ground. Even in his prime, I wouldn’t want him to infect a Steeler offense. Winston will be starting somewhere and will be paid well. Since that ain’t happening here, it’s kinda moot.

Funny you mentioned the Dickel.

The whiskey bar where I try most of my stuff has an amazing collection. One day just said to pour me something I haven’t had.

It was a Dickel.

Didn’t like it. At all. Which led me to revisiting Jack, Gentlemen Jack, and the Sinatra Select Jack.

Realized I didn’t care for those either.

Came to the conclusion that sour mash and the “Lincoln County Process” of finishing through the maple charcoal just isn’t for me.

Too sweet.

It’s not bad stuff though. Just isnt the flavor I seek.

In fact, one of the guys that runs the place says the Dickel is often his daily drinker.

Ya, if the offense is coordinated properly and assuming our defense is close to what it was last year we simply need a QB that can manage the game, throw the ball to the open man, and most importantly not Duck things up by himself.

Oops, meant fuck it up all by himself but Duck it up is actually fitting here too.

Doesn't seem likely, though.

Dalton is a decent QB, his biggest issue in Cincinnati is that he’s in Cincinnati.
Dalton isn’t a FA, he’s still under contract to the Bungles. That means to get him, the Steelers would need to trade for him...and the $17mil cap hit that comes along with him.

I'll pass on newton, and don't know much about JW. But they seem to be made in the same mold.

100% Agree. JW could come and learn under Ben. He'd would play some games this years no doubt. He's still young enough to have his Int mistakes corrected. He's a big, mobile dude. I'd be ecstatic if the Steelers went and got him. Future starter and WAYYYYY better than the 2 backups on the roster now. Sometimes a change of scenery can help.

Definitely gotta be careful with brands.

The single barrel stuff from the major distilleries are a safer bet IMO than these “craft” distilleries thy are popping up.

For the QBs I’d be inclined to take a flier on JW But NO WAY to Scam Newton

As a general rule, don't buy aged liquor from a craft distillery. Quality is all over the place (mostly sub par). I'm sure there are exceptions, but not in my experience.

Neutral spirits are generally pretty good, but I've tended to enjoy some of the off-the-wall spirits: Corsair Distillery in Nashville makes a great absinthe, and I got a whiskey made from buckwheat that was quite good. Our local still makes a quality gin.
