Full stadiums in September

The season is looking better. NFL is planning full stadiums in September. Possible even pre season games. This will certainly happen especially if there are no spikes in the next few weeks.

Does a Governor have final say on this?
Can they override any NFL decision and dictate that stadiums remain closed or limited to 50%, 25% capacity?
Hasn't Gov. Wolf been one of the repressive governors keeping things shut down, businesses closed, peoples lives on hold or in ruins?
I have until June 1st to renew my season tickets.
Kinda waiting and seeing.

We don't have an NFL team, but public gatherings in DE, as of June 1st, are capped at 250, and those need a permit. I can't believe a reasonable governor would sign off on one of 60,000 at this point, that far ahead of time. It's nice to be upbeat and all, and I know we all want sports, but this is the cart a few hectares before the horse.

I honestly don't know who has the final say, CDC, politicians, lawyers, NFL or public opinion(vis a vis $$$).
If after a couple of weeks of not seeing any significant increases in cases or deaths, especially after the massive crowds on the beaches and in churches etc. if would be difficult to justify not opening the stadiums. It seemed like business as usual where I was for Memorial Day.
And it seems like the fans are ready to attend the games. Tickets are selling fast and many sections are sold out already.

I wouldn't call the beach crowds "massive" this weekend. It was responsible and distanced here, and was monitored. Our short term rental ban and quarantine for out of state travel ends June 1st, so we'll see if folks from other states come down and act foolish. That will trigger both ban and quarantine again in short order, according to Carney.
The fact that "fans want football (and everything else to be back to normal, duh)" is vehemently NOT a reason to do anything, let alone allow 60,000 people in population centers to gather in a place where social distancing is impossible.

Not to be argumentative but here in south Texas the beaches were much more crowded then I expected or even remember from past years. Even the Fireworks display drew large crowds. Restaurants were full. Possibly because of the relatively low cases here in Texas and especially in the south. I can understand the Northeast part of the country is still very cautious. They got hit the hardest.Ice wrote: ↑Tue May 26, 2020 8:46 pmI wouldn't call the beach crowds "massive" this weekend. It was responsible and distanced here, and was monitored. How can anyone say anything about “low cases” when we still can’t test worth a damn? They only thing that is certain at this point is that we don’t know how many people have or had the virus. People in these areas can frequent restaurants and beaches all they want, but it’s not because they should feel confident the spread is under control. In my view it just shows a lot of ignorance and a lot of stupidity.Texas Black & Gold wrote: ↑Tue May 26, 2020 9:04 pmNot to be argumentative but here in south Texas the beaches were much more crowded then I expected or even remember from past years. States are actively suppressing the statistics and keeping test numbers low, that's for sure. The only way we're going to know what's happening is when people you know start to get sick or die. Or maybe nothing like that will happen and another 100,000 will die just for the hell of it.

Restaurants remain a VERY iffy proposition for dine-in, probably the riskiest idea. If beachgoers are responsible, or you go at the right times, beaches and camping are probably best recreational bets at this point. Didn't have any fireworks displays in DE, but when you look at the massive budget cuts upcoming, probably not the best use of funds even if it wasn't a dumb idea to gather all those people.

There probably is some ignorance and stupidity out there but how does one measure that accurately? There will always be acts of irresponsibility but I can only speak for myself. I am confident that if I do get sick with COVID19 that the medical capacity is adequate and I would quarantine myself and hope for the best. A lot can happen before the HOF game and opening night.Orangesteel wrote: ↑Wed May 27, 2020 12:36 amHow can anyone say anything about “low cases” when we still can’t test worth a damn? I have to think most everyone knows someone that has gotten sick from the virus at this point.
The issue the Governor of PA has is the state is very different in west vs east. Pittsburgh is fine, and is ready to move forward, whereas Philly probably needs to proceed slower. I am no fan of the dude, but he seems to somewhat recognize that which is great. I think Pittsburgh will be back open pretty soon.
And I dont get everyone complaining about the testing. My coworker walked in to a Labcorp and got an antibidy test today. Neighbors have been tested. They are pretty available here in Pittsburgh.

I don't know anyone yet with the virus and the only person that I know that got tested was negative. There really are places in America that have not been affected by COVID19 except for the shutdowns.

People can bitch, moan, post about others being ignorant or stupid etc for wanting to get back to normal.
But some people choose to wear a mask. I adamantly say wearing masks is fucking stupid. Keeping people locked inside is fucking stupid. Been working thru this entire pandemic and now that the state is “trying” to open back up we all have to wear masks at work? GTFO. Thats what I call stupid and ignorant.
Look at the statistics of the people getting Covid from being inside along with all the other issues this “shutdown“ is causing and I say take your ignorance and fear and shove it directly up your asshole.
My choice is open the fuck up already and get back to normal. Fuck the ignorant new normal.

Before you start, I understand that other people think that it was undercounted but they were talking about the very beginning of the outbreak. Not now. They have also stated that, unlike other countries, we count anyone dying with covid-19 as an official covid-19 death regardless of the actual cause of death (i.e. heart attack, stroke, etc). That equals inflated numbers to me.

I have a friend that has had mini strokes, and has trouble with balance and speech while testing positive for Covid 19. Blood clots are a symptom of covid 19. Do I check the covid box or the stroke box? Covid is irrelevant? I keep saying the numbers lie. And everybody is using "numbers" to promote an agenda. More tests means more positives. More positives or false positives? Antibody tests don't mean shit. Yet we are hearing about how antibody tests means immunity, but it hasn't been verified.
Yeah. Sometimes numbers mean something, sometimes they don't. The trick is to know which is which, and if you don't know, proceed with caution. Not all half cocked thinking your numbers mean something to support your position. No. I don't think you are half cocked. Just sayin'

NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith pegged the chances of an NFL season at 6 or 7 out of 10 -- which registers as a realistically optimistic number. Still a lot to work out, including how to handle players in higher-risk categories for COVID-19. @nflnetwork

So a person who dies of pneumonia who is covid positive would have died from the fluid in their lungs whether they were positive or negative Vis a Vis covid?? OMG y'all really got to start spending more money on public education
In Italy one of the original epicenters, the initial surge was traced back to a soccer (football) game. If there continues to be a significant number of active cases nation wide, and you think smart governors are going to allow 70,000 people to pack in together TIGHT, screaming DEFENSE with Cowher like spittle being sprayed willy nilly all over the place you are dreaming.
70,000 people attend 1% is covid positive, they scream their heads off, 10,000 people leave carrying the virus, they infect 10 people each, those 100,000 people will infect.....well you get the math (well some of you do )
Sad to see how little regard some people have for the old, the weak, the compromised in their society and for the health care workers who have to work round the clock to try to save people and also put themselves at mortal risk, all so they can watch a football game
BTW I hope we can watch football but not at any cost.
