What if there is no 2020 season?
What if there is no 2020 season?
What if the next NFL season is 2021?
When I ponder that question it raises so many other questions.
Imagine there are no college games either. Would there be a 2021 NFL draft? How do you figure out comp picks when those free agents signed in 2020 never played a game? It doesn't matter? You simply go by the contracts signed?
Do you follow through with an NFL draft anyway in 2021? So, if things come back to some sort of normal, there will be a season for 2021, then the Steelers might have two rookie draft classes the 2020 and 2021 players.
How do you even have an NFL 2021 draft? With no season played, the positioning, the draft slots do you go by the last played season record?
So, the first pick in the 2021 Steelers draft, Pittsburgh selects, with the 18th pick, ____________________?
Hey, I am off for 3 days and bored, but why not play along, who would you pick in this scenario?

I am a big fan of the Steelers but I am sure I would find a substitute. Who knows maybe it might be a good time out for the NFL.
Secure NHALS early and then go deep into the PLAYOFFS.
I'm sure that all professional sports leagues & college sports will have their eyes on major league baseball & what happens if/when they start first.

The NHL has a plan in place and if it were to happen then they have to rearrange the following season's length and start. The big downside is that more and more NHL players are testing positive now.
I have been thinking about the 2021 NFL draft if there is no season this year as well.
The first two picks this year-Burrow and Young were not expected to be picked where they were before the college season started. I've read where Burrow had a preseason ranking between the 4-5th round by a lot of scouts. Young had first round talent and was going to be a first rounder but not as high as the second overall.
If there is no season do they keep the draft order the same as this past year? That wouldn't be fair. Maybe some kind of a lottery?

If you think that there won't be a plan in place for two mulitbillion-dollar business ventures- you're crazy.
There will be games even if there are no people there. Boxing and wrestling were awkward to watch but then they started pumping in crowd noise and everything is watchable. Before it looked like the start of some weird apartment wrestling porn.
If there are not games-
No one is going to sit back and allow the Bengals two first-round picks in two years. The draft will go into a lottery.

If the NHL has a plan surely the NFL does. The big variable is the availability of players and how the virus effects each team.
It is possible that rosters are going to be shaken up in a big way week to week.

Meh, let 'em. It's the Bengals, they'll fuck it up.VeritasSteel wrote: ↑Wed Jun 24, 2020 7:16 pmNo one is going to sit back and allow the Bengals two first-round picks in two years.
I was just thinking if there was no draft and Trevor Lawrence ended-up a free agent.fractalsteel wrote: ↑Wed Jun 24, 2020 7:07 pmIf there is no season do they keep the draft order the same as this past year? That wouldn't be fair. Maybe some kind of a lottery?
Wow. Lawrence and Bezos winning the Covid-19 sweepstakes.

I'm interested to see what happens with MLB because players refused the "bubble" plan the NBA is going with.fractalsteel wrote: ↑Wed Jun 24, 2020 8:48 pmIf the NHL has a plan surely the NFL does. The big variable is the availability of players and how the virus effects each team.

Going out to a bar or restaurant would be a much bigger risk to you and your team than playing a pick-up basketball game during the season. You're hurting the team if you don't quarantine yourself off the field. But I bet at least some players aren't going to see it that way.

Any chance we can post about the Steelers and sports on a message board without politics , personal attacks, or racist remarks? If it's close, just avoid it... please. All I get to do here these days is moderate the board and delete stuff.
Please use some judgment and courtesy.

Pretty sure I am. Not all of course but a majority of the younger players care much more about their personal accolades than they do the team.Texas Black & Gold wrote: ↑Wed Jun 24, 2020 11:31 pmI hope that is not the case. But in reality you are probably right.
We’ve gotten a huge dose of it from a couple of our homegrown players in AB & Bell.
Look at how unified that 05 team we had was. Working toward a common goal of getting Bus a championship. Along with Cowher’s long quest for one.
Don’t feel the same commraderie as years past. Maybe that’s perception but that perception exist for a reason.

I say 32 balls. And for TV drama purposes, the last ball out gets the #1 pick.stillthere wrote: ↑Thu Jun 25, 2020 12:35 amWeighted lottery or just 32 balls and the draft is the order they come out live on television?VeritasSteel wrote: ↑Wed Jun 24, 2020 7:16 pmIf you think that there won't be a plan in place for two mulitbillion-dollar business ventures- you're crazy.

I think the NFL gets played. Perhaps they push back the start of the season. Way too much money is at stake- same goes for college ball
More curiously, does everyone think HS football still goes on?

In stage 2 in DE, we've been able to have kids doing individual drills, but that's about it, Donnie. Haven't even had discussion about full contact or games at this point. With the $ shortage in public school budgets, sports could be on the firing line, as well.
Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile...
High school teams in our area are holding conditioning drills...under state guidelines of course.Donnie Brasco wrote: ↑Thu Jun 25, 2020 5:08 pmI think the NFL gets played. Perhaps they push back the start of the season. Way too much money is at stake- same goes for college ball

They can move the NFL games to Canada for 2020. Canadians will sit social-distanced. Above the 49th parallel, they have listened to science & flattened the curve. Per capita one-tenth as many Canadians are getting sick.
You mean there is a lower rate of dumbassery in Canada?

I wouldn't have thought so but yes. They are letting us into Europe just no one who lives below the 49th parallel. I hope you guys figure out how to flatten the curve. I want to watch the Steelers this year.
And with even significantly better covid stats on all fronts (based on per capita comparison) Canadian college football (3 conferences out of 4) has already been canceled with the exception of my Alma mater's conference, the Quebec group (conference of super bowl winner Laurent Duvernay Tardif) who have yet to decide. I believe USA will play football at all levels but it is interesting that in a place which right now that is significantly safer they have decided ALREADY to scrap the season.
The United States is about two things. Money, and religion. Many things like liberty, freedom, equality, justice, or apple pie fall below those two (some far below), because the first two take priority. But if you had to describe the US in two words. . .stinger8 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 04, 2020 1:15 pmAnd with even significantly better covid stats on all fronts (based on per capita comparison) Canadian college football (3 conferences out of 4) has already been canceled with the exception of my Alma mater's conference, the Quebec group (conference of super bowl winner Laurent Duvernay Tardif) who have yet to decide. The NFL is going to force the issue, as are a number of other businesses because worshiping the almighty greenback here in the USA is priority. At all costs. Even human lives.

But Canada & America are the best 2 country comparison & there is no reason why the covid-19 numbers per capita should not be so different except for stupidity.955876 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 05, 2020 9:48 pmAre still waaaaay better here despite the current America is the bane of all evil narrative. Many things like liberty, freedom, equality, justice,
Take a stroll through the continent of Africa, the Middle East, central & South America, Asia, etc etc and tell me how the rest of the world stacks up.
That’s not to say we can’t still be better.
Ironic how many “Americans” shout down and despise this country yet it’s still the one millions of people try so desperately to come to.
I suppose word hasn’t gotten out to the rest of the world just how horrible this place is.
I’m sure there are many many other factors besides “stupidity” that is playing a roll. Not saying stupidity isn’t a factor. Just saying it isn’t only factor. Far from it.blu wrote: ↑Sun Jul 05, 2020 10:00 pmBut Canada & America are the best 2 country comparison & there is no reason why the covid-19 numbers per capita should not be so different except for stupidity.955876 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 05, 2020 9:48 pmAre still waaaaay better here despite the current America is the bane of all evil narrative. Many things like liberty, freedom, equality, justice,

And I wasn’t commenting on COVID.
Was commenting on the marginalization of things that have and do make this country exceptional. Especially when viewed through a global lens.
Doesn’t mean it can’t be better. Doesn’t mean we have to stop striving to be better.
But go look at the level of liberty, freedom, equality, and justice elsewhere in the world before crying how horrible America is at those things.
You don’t see millions of people flocking to China. You don’t see caravans 20,000 strong trying to get into the Middle East.
How come people aren’t risking their lives to get into Africa?
It’s a tired narrative that is much more a political tool than reality.
