Lift Every Voice And Sing

Post by blu » Fri Jul 03, 2020 2:10 pm

Having that sung at the beginning of the first games of the season seems to me to be even bigger than kneeling during the anthem. The times are a-changin'. I wish everyone a happy & safely distanced &/or masked 4th of July. Even people in their 20's are getting very sick. Be safe.

I'll take virtue signaling and pandering for $500, Alex

The NFL could easily remove their own problem by not having the anthem played, period
But that would mean less of that sweet sweet military money coming in for sponsorships

I don't care much about kneeling. Any govt flag is inherently political. Free speech says you can do what you want during the anthem but when you are getting paid it's much more complicated than simply saying free speech.

Trey Wingo who I have always known to be a dumbass, and both Golic's (doubt that show is going to do well long term with Golic Jr minus Golic Sr) are telling us even when you are wrong you are right. The lesson from NASCAR which everyone should already know is careful thorough investigation. Period.

Emotional reasoning is running rampant in our country. It is the current prevailing method.

I'm not going to comment on whether this issue is baiting, but how many ways can you tie rope in a loop for a hand pull? Anybody here a rope knot expert?

Oh I have questions about it too Cor.

My point remains.

PM me if you want to discuss further or we are both going to get in trouble.

I can't disagree with anything you posted. I also haven't closely followed the "controversy," and don't listen to ESPN - or follow NASCAR for that matter. So I don't really have a formulated opinion. But yeah. Questions abound. . .

But I found it funny that the Auto Museum in Illinois announced it is keeping the Dukes of Hazzard confederate car. . . 8-)

All it does is remind me of Daisy Dukes' shorts. . .

The only knot I know of to tie a hand pull like that would be a bow line knot. Now, you could add a series of two-half hitch knots in order to make it look like a noose. The half-hitches would serve to secure the original bow line knot but you normally do not need to add anything to a bowline as it is secure by itself.

Whether a bad joke or an overt racist signal, it looks like the noose was intentional. But it absolutely wasn't directed at Bubba. And I'm not sure that really changes anything.

Although, if it was a working noose, then it would function pretty poorly as a door pull because the loop would tighten the first time you pulled it (so after 9-12 months, maybe not a working noose). So, yes, if you had too much rope you have two choices - multiple square knots until the loose end is out of the way, or wrap the rope around itself with one or two knots to secure it (this could look like a noose but wouldn't work like one). Yes, you could cut the excess but that might not be that easy without the right tool and creates additional work.

Picture I saw didn't look like it was tied in the way I'm talking about above. But I'm also not sure it was an actual working noose, which means it was tied differently.

Nah, Stosh. For our day and age, it's got to be Flea. :D

Sounds pretty much just like Jimi, however, but just an octave lower.

Sorry, Stosh. I don't worship at the altar of Jimi. Yeah, he's a great guitar player. Not into it. Give me Grant Green or Wes Montgomery. More my thing.

I think you're missing my point though. I don't think Flea's rendition is particularly amazing. I think it's fun. Both his and Jimi's sound like noise to me.

Like I said, Grant Green or Wes Montgomery is more my thing.

Doesn't sound much like Jimi to me. Although I give huge props for Flea.

I wonder if Jaco Pastorius ever played the anthem.

I'm not aiming this at you, Kodiak

I can think of other possibilities than the 2 you mentioned, and if I wanted to spend more time thinking about it I'm sure I could think of more.

That's the problem with judging others and ultimately that's what this is, a judgement on the unknown person(s) who did this. People are complex and often do all kinds of crazy things and dumb things for reasons outside of the realm of thought and experience of those making the judgements.

Even the branding by some of the dope that was banned from this site recently was simplistic and shallow... not that he shouldn't have been banned absolutely he should have.

Can we create a new state for all these people going off the deep end and let them figure out what they want to do in that state.
Problem will be, that state would not survive, can not support themselves, without the normal, hard working common sense people paying for that deep end.

Thanks Stosh

The idea of separating sports and politics in this country is officially dead. It's over (not my preference).

I loved the General Discussion forum on this site because I had a voice there and we all did and many views were represented which is different from tuning into ESPN where the idea of separating sports and politics is officially dead but often only 1 view is represented therefore data that goes against that view is not expressed.
