Great trade for the JetsNew York Post's Brian Costello reports the Jets traded Jamal Adams to the Seahawks.
Adams has made public trade demands for months, and he finally gets his wish for a fresh start. In 2019, the Seahawks defense wasn't what it had been during it's mid-2010s run, but adding Adams to the mix certainly will make an impact going into 2020. Adams is a consensus top-three safety and is one of the few players capable of rushing the quarterback in addition to his duties as a coverage specialist. The Seahawks' next order of business will be to ink Adams to a long-term deal. In return, the Jets received safety Bradley McDougald and a huge draft package that includes a 1st round pick in 2021, a 3rd round pick in 2021, and a 1st round pick in 2022. It's tough to trade a star player, but the Jets are at least setting themselves up for the future with these draft assets.

They draft Tom Ricketts and Huey Richardson and it don't look so good in 2 years.
Adams is one helluva football player.

AFC East trade fever. Jets and Fins love their 1st round draft picks. 1 in the draft is equal to one in the hand for both teams’ front offices. That math just doesn’t work in reality; they may get lucky, probably not, but it will never be a sound business strategy.
I would trade my 1R draft pick every season for proven semi-generational talent.

When the Jets wouldn't give him a new contract the writing was on the wall. Adams insulted his HC yesterday to the press and he has complained loud and hard about the direction the Jets were going.
He probably wasn't going to hang around for a C2 anyway so the Jets got some excellent value for him.
Seattle has been trying to rebuild that SB defense for several years now and Adams is a move in the right direction.

Adams is great... but all the talk in Seattle this offseason was about what a great pair of safeties Quandre Diggs and Marquise Blair were going to be for years to come.

That’s a tremendous amount of draft capital, plus a really good safety in McDougal, to trade for a guy you are going to have to pay an ass load of money in 1 or MAYBE 2 years.
Is this the new norm? Players don’t want to honor their contract so they kick and scream until they get traded? But shit, Seattle got FLEECED; two firsts, a third and a legit starting safety???

From what I have read Blair couldn't beat out Mcdougald(who is a decent starter at best) and Diggs has a bright future. Maybe move Blair to the nickel and along with Amadi you have the makings of a solid group.bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Sun Jul 26, 2020 2:06 amAdams is great... but all the talk in Seattle this offseason was about what a great pair of safeties Quandre Diggs and Marquise Blair were going to be for years to come.
Adams is the kind of player and leader that Carroll loves.
Makes Kevin Colbert look like a genius. Granted, MIA and everyone else thought our R1 was going to be at least a top-10 pick.
Huge difference, though, was we got Minkah with 3 years left on his rookie deal. Not to mention the potential for a 5th year option (not sure how that works if a player was traded).
Haha, timely piece (no, I didn't read this before posting):

Right, all things considered this was highway robbery as stated in the article you posted, the kind of deal that can put a team over the championship top.Kodiak wrote: ↑Sun Jul 26, 2020 2:38 pmMakes Kevin Colbert look like a genius. On the other side of town the Pens made a trade one year ago today that now is considered a steal.
For a sixth round pick the Pens acquired John Marino from Edmonton. Usually those kind of trades lead to nothing but the Pens got a guy who not only made the team as a rookie but when pressed into bigger minutes thrived.
He plays like he has been in the NHL for years and his future is very bright.

Said to my buddy. This trade makes the Steelers front office look like they fleeced Miami even worse than it was fleeced.Kodiak wrote: ↑Sun Jul 26, 2020 2:38 pmMakes Kevin Colbert look like a genius. Granted, MIA and everyone else thought our R1 was going to be at least a top-10 pick.

I'm not sure PIT fleeced MIA - we gave up about what we did to draft Polamulu. But IMO, it's bad business to trade malcontents. PIT has done that, itself, several times now and it's a bad precedent to set.stillthere wrote: ↑Mon Jul 27, 2020 3:28 amSaid to my buddy. But the Jets definitely fleeced SEA.

Colbert ranked #2 GM in NFL by Patrick Daugherty
Colbert ranked #2 GM in NFL by Patrick Daugherty
2. Kevin Colbert, Steelers
What does depth get you? An 8-8 record in a year where you had to trade the best receiver in football and your quarterback played six quarters. Kevin Colbert has been getting the big things right for his entire two-decade run as general manager. It was a little thing that tripped him up in 2019: Backup QB. The lack of a Nick Foles or Teddy Bridgewater undermined an otherwise heroic playoff pursuit. That glaring hole remains for 2020 as 38-year-old Ben Roethlisberger returns from an injury to his throwing arm. All the other pieces are in place. Arguably the league’s keenest eye for high-end defensive talent and wide receiver gems, Colbert’s loaded roster has upside to spare. It is lacking a first-round rookie after last year’s aggressive acquisition of Minkah Fitzpatrick, though Fitzpatrick is still only 23 years old. Colbert has a little less margin for error than usual, but he has his team well positioned for its 20th winning season in 21 years.
