Swissvale72 update

Post by swissvale72 » Sat Sep 26, 2020 1:15 pm

Greetings asshats....I write to you today, not from my beachfront paradise on Prince Edward Island, but from Vermont's picturesque northeast kingdom.

I had commenced this post on the TV map thread, but with some admitted self-aggrandizement, thought it best written as a stand alone.

Temporarily, I'm owning three homes, me and Bernie sanders. Having been denied admission to Canada since the onset of the pandemic and having been unable to access health care in PEI as a US citizen for even longer, we put that cottage on the market in January and will close on it by the end of october, it being bought, interestingly enough, by texans.

In the meantime, my daughter, having completed graduate school for social work, and her husband, were in the process of fulfilling a dream and moving to Vermont. Soooo....we bought a house rip there, minutes from the shores of lake willoughby. Daughter and son-in-law live there, along with 25 freakin' chickens. We go up most weekends. My other kid, speaking to two kids, same upbringing, complete opposites, continues to reside in a tiny studio in Manhattan, living the life of a self-described "corporate bitch."

What's the steeler relationship to this exhausting tale? Here it is. My Sunday ticket subscription was of no use to me in PEI, what with international restrictions. The loving couple living here in Vermont have no TV. But....Sunday ticket plus, on my laptop, comes in beautifully. So there I was last Sunday, and will be again tomorrow, on my sun/drenched deck in Westmore/Barton vermont, overlooking the green mountains, IPA in hand, watching Pittsburgh Steelers football. It's gets no better, asshats, gets no better!!

Beautiful country up there. Last fall my wife and I rented a tree house for a week just outside of Newport, VT.

Sounds great!

BTW: Did you ever post Steeler participation snaps [maybe also personnel grouping info] on another site?

Anyway, more than a few years ago, there was a very knowledgeable poster who did this[among other things] and Swissvale---? was in his user name.

My guess it was you. Just curious.

I did...used to post snap counts, formation counts, etc, both here and on behind the steel curtain. I don't watch as diligently anymore...still don't miss a play, but not as focused

Or go get some Heady Topper or Focal Banger and do it right. Shelfies suck.

I am jealous, Swiss. I miss visiting family at Echo Lake, which is maybe 5-10 miles from you -- especially in summer and leaf season.

Good to hear from you, Swiss! My, oh my, behold your metamorphosis from literate yinzer, intervener-in-social-ills, protector of women young and old… to hipster homesteader. Chickens! Craft beer! I like the picture you paint. You wearing a stingy-brim fedora?

You mean Echo Lake, NH, in the Whites? Right, Drummer Boy? I'm actually wayyyy up in the NEK, about 15 miles from Canadian Border, so Echo is about an hour and a half away. Drove by it last night....Looove Echo Lake.

I spoke too soon!!

I actually succumbed to Mrs. Swiss's admonitions and beautiful weather to do some foliage bullshit on Sunday afternoon...KNOWING that I had the VCR set.

Well....I get home at 9pm, settle in to watch the game. Guess what??? No fuckin' game!! I fucked up the taping, set the TV for Channel 3 instead of 4. I was pissssssed. Had to have Mrs. Swiss hide the top of the screen....went to the play by play, and sorta followed the game that way. Then...I watched the Sunday Ticket replay at 5am....so saw the whole thing, after knowing what happened.

FUCK!! But Steelers won. So all good.

Yes, that.
My memories of Long Trail product (dating back to pre 2000 aren't that memorable. Obviously it's a very different scene now.

If I still had the condo in Waitsfield (limitations not withstanding) I would be doing Montreal in the summer for the Grand Prix and visiting Unibrou and some other places (Dom du Ciel). And all the hazy IPAs I could track down in VT.

No, this Echo Lake is in the NEK, very close to you and very close to Canada -- check Google Maps. The other Echo Lake sounds awesome, though.
