Great podcast guys, but can we drop the narrative that the Steelers struggle to stop the run?

They're giving up 2.9 YPC this year. They're one of three teams in the NFL that hasn't given up a rushing TD. They've only given up 7 rushing first downs in two games this year, first in the NFL. No plays over 20 yards.

Last year the Steelers were third in the NFL in 3.8 YPC and were first with 7 rushing TDs given up.

Munchak and company ran a couple of good inside zones with Melvin Gordon last week. Big whoop. They did dogshit otherwise on the ground and had a ton of negative plays that would've killed drives if they weren't bailed out by Driskel hanging tough and playing very well and some flag-happy refs.

I'm not saying some of the criticisms aren't valid, but it really seems like you're not looking at the big picture of what these guys are doing. They've been an absolutely elite run D and probably the best front seven in football the last two years. Appreciate it fellas! :D

Tb. Go and look at the inside runs and keep an eye on Heyward and Wormley getting walked back by the double teams. It’s a specific note, not that they’re bad at stopping the run overall, but that there are some issues specifically with our DEs holding the point and/or LBs/Ss behind them filling those gaps. It hasn’t cost them yet and their OLBs are so good at pursuing from the backside—but it’s a thing to work on, and I thought so long before FC brought it up.

I have visions of the Ravens doing this to the Steelers DL and it’s not pretty.

Fair, and like I said I wasn't saying some criticisms weren't valid, it just seems the run D gets dumped on a lot when it definitely has been one of the best in the league the last two years. Loved hearing from all 4 of you guys, great stuff.

Heart and mind says Steelers win, but it's interesting to me that under Tomlin we've played an 0-2 team three different times: the 2017 OT loss to the Bears, a 31-34 loss to the Raiders in 2012, and a 2011 game we won on a last second FG against a truly awful Colts team (finished 2-14) that was a struggle. Wouldn't shock me if our poor second half last week continues over and a highly motivated Watson and Texans team shows out for an upset.
