Discuss. At that price, I'll take it.

Assuming he's waiting out the cap hell in an offense where he knows he'll see targets. Good deal for both sides.

On the other hand, I have way more confidence in Tombert's ability to replace a WR in the draft than I do in their ability to replace Steven Nelson, so... mixed bag?

I'd prefer they use that money elsewhere, as well, but this won't stop them from drafting WR(s). Next year, you start over again, probably replacing both JW & JuJu if you don't absolutely have to have them.
1 20 Amarius Mims, OT, Georgia
2 51 TRADE: Brandon Aiyuk, WR
3 84 Hunter Nourzad, C, Penn State
3× 98 Jarvis Brownlee, Jr., CB, Florida State

Shocked...I was just posting in another thread I was waiting for him to walk, but this is great news!

Its possible the market was a bit saturated, but I still think he took a decent hometown discount to stay here, and nobody here who spent significant bandwidth whinging over his social media presence better forget that when you're doing the pluses and minuses for this kid.
He's a tough WR giving a borderline HOF QB in his twilight years a proven commodity for another season and it will only help both of their legacies.

I look at it this way. A bit unorthodox but anyway. . . He's earned, so far, about $1M per season for 4 seasons. Considering his output and production, it was worth more than $4M, imo. So this one year deal is padding his first contract as a bonus. It's the steelers way. Reward after the fact with a new contract, but it's telling that it's a one year deal. Makes me wonder if BR really is going to call it quits after next year. Ju Ju likes BR. If BR is gone, JuJu is gone as well.

I like it, as JuJu might not be a #1, but he's still valuable in this offense.

Actual 1 year deal or 1+ voidables?

Edit: easily the best player we expected to be losing, and a much better deal than the other WR contracts we’ve seen.

Said no to playing with Mahomes/Reid and Jackson/Harbaugh to take a discount here. If Ben was named Tom Brady, media would be falling all over themselves to talk about how player took discount because he loves playing with him, etc. ad nauseum.

Apparently the Rats made him a significantly better offer.
Is it possible that the Steelers told him that if he accepts this bargain deal that they’ll take care of him next season when they have the space?

They could have taken care of him with a long term deal this year with less than an 8M cap hit. 4 year deal worth 60M with a 20M signing bonus would only have counted 6M against the cap this year (including 1M base salary).

I'm struggling to understand what they're doing this offseason. It's incomplete right now but so far they haven't used their minimal cap space effectively.

Juju at 8 million is good production value. Juju does have skill, toughness, blocking, if not speed. Washington has a similar skill set with less flash.

Juju’s social media addiction hurt his value a bit. Logo dancing was immature abd counter productive. Having said that, Pittsburgh gets to have Boujee for another year.

This, and I think he wants to stay in Pittsburgh. The guy has been pretty much perfect for 4 years. The only negative thing anyone can say about him is that he does tik-tok social media and he has had 3 fumbles that all were very poorly timed. Literally the only 2 negative things anyone has to say about him.

He also makes a lot of money doing his side hustle with video games and his online footprint plus a few commercials. He probably made more doing that than playing football until this year.

Here’s the interesting part on Steelers’ WR JuJu Smith-Schuster’s one-year deal with Pittsburgh: the Ravens made a hard push to sign him and he wound up taking significantly less money to go back to the Steelers, per sources.

JuJu Smith-Schuster also turned down more money on a multi-year deal from the Eagles than he took to return to the Steelers, per source. The Eagles’ were a secret suitor. But Smith-Schuster loved Pittsburgh and its fans too much to leave.

Feels like he signed without agent representation! Not knowing his agent, I can conclude it is not the same as Bell’s and AB’s.

Not sure, I didn't suggest they are aiming to sign him long term. I would have preferred to use the money one more pressing needs and taken the 3rd or 4th round comp pick in 2022.

I just posted about them resigning him in another thread the other day (yesterday maybe). I said that I thought this might happen, as it made perfect sense as to why they where being so quiet in FA (and no real news on JuJu). I said I would be OK if they got him back for less than $10M, so $8M is a bargain for today's WR pay scales.

Do they cut a big name vet or do they just restructure/extend some more salaries? Restructure/extend is my guess.

Only players to get meaningful cap space from are Haden, Tuitt, Nelson, DD and Ebron.

I hope JuJu has learned a lesson and gets back to his earlier, innocent SM days -- not the crap he pulled this year.

Overall, I'll take it, I guess.

That's called PR damage control, right there. Watch...my bet is JuJu works hard to polish up his slightly tarnished image (and game) this next year. He wants that big contract next offseason, probably in a market like Cali, NY, FL or Chi.

He definitely benefitted from Ab but at that price? Not too shabby.

Ravens will likely make a strong push for Golladay.
