Door slammers Wk 9 Bears

Post by SteelerDayTrader » Tue Nov 09, 2021 5:21 am

The Steelers look very unlikely to win a playoff game this year yet again. The middle of the defense is manned by players who often look soft confused and unwilling or unable to make even basic solid plays. Offensive coordinator Matt Canada does his players no favors that I see. In fact his offense seems to get his skill players smashed for minimal gains pretty often.

The Steelers best player Roethlisberger could easily play a few more years at a high level in a league that is increasingly easier on QBs. However this game like many/most Steeler games was much much harder than it should’ve been against one of the worst teams in the league that is poorly coached and managed from top to bottom; and this game along with many others seems to show a forlorn Roethlisberger that knows deep down the Steelers are by far their own worst enemy particularly from areas in the organization that even his near career constant above and beyond play can’t bail out

I don’t know if Roethlisberger is going to call it a career after this year or not. I am real sure if he does it will be because he has spent a HOF career playing for a team that largely didn’t appreciate him, mostly failed on a large level for many years to put together even a somewhat complete roster, and perhaps most damningly handcuffed their best player for years; or barring that scenario I suspect the Steelers will force Roethlisberger to move on well before he is done without any real hint of a possible alternative

Oh what might have been. Oh what should’ve been

Door slammers for the game

Ben Roethlisberger Co - MVP
Yet again makes all the plays he has to for a team far beneath his talent and effort

Najee Harris Co - MVP
Solid multifaceted play and team player the Steelers haven’t seen at RB in a long time. Another solid game

Pat Friermuth Co - MVP
I doubt Friermuth will ever be a big time game breaking player. He is starting to show some consistency in making the kind of clutch plays a slow lesser talented player needs to make to be a part of a winning effort. Combat catches. Huge effort plays designed to scheme him into the offense successfully. In general if Friermuth is gonna be a force it will be not due to an excess of talent but an excess of learned skills and effort. Great game for him

Chris Boswell Co - MVP
The Steelers don’t win this game without the best game by an NFL kicker in at least a month

Low Watt
Watt put up enough stats and key plays to be a force in this game.

Chase Claypool
When you lack separation skills you have to contribute with combat catches and plays in big moments in addition to being solid enough to survive the Steelers we hate skill positions meat grinder offense

It's only the 8th game.....door-stopper Watt has ELEVEN POINT FIVE sacks!!!!

He's on pace to set the record.

Don't forget that TJ missed 1+ games due to an injury.

His 3rd sack tonight should have effectively ended the game but then..... Ray Ray happened

Watt is a bona fide door slammer for sure. He's been bailing Ben and Tomlin out all year.

That’s a fair point. Great player who is much like Najee at this point in that without his consistent solid play the Steelers are much worse off

The INT was great

I have to presume that some of this about "Low Watt" is just good natured ball busting, and I wasn't happy with his passive-aggressive hold out this preseason, but he ended it well and on time and has been a standout defensive player once again this season, despite missing time and playing through an injury. You can't ask for much more other than to have big games in big moments. Our D as a whole has played disastrously in the post-season over the past decade, and players like Watt and Heyward haven't lived up to their regular season performances in the post-season, but in Watt's case, to be fair, he's only played in 2 of them. No one remembers that Willie Stargell stunk up the place in the 71 post season, no HRS, 1 RBI, barely Mendoza line average. He got more chances. Some players take advantage of those chances, like Pops, some never do, like Bonds. Let's get TJ some more chances to shine! And Cam and Ben! Let's go and show what we are capable of!!

“You’re going to be in battles. The most important thing is to be able to smile in the face of adversity and make the necessary plays to win the game. The cool thing is we made the necessary plays.”

2 & 19 - CHI 40(8:53 - 4th) B.Snell up the middle to CHI 39 for 1 yard (A.Blackson).
"I'm institutionalized, man," he joked. "I gotta have it. I just love the challenges week in and week out that this job provides: the growth in it, the collective growth, the individual growth."
