I’m more impressed with what Flores did in Miami than what Tomlin has done in about a decade. Especially given the headwind of an ownership actively trying to lose.
Good hire.

Good coaches don’t want to work with Tomlin?

Tomlin needs all the defensive help he can get including evaluating potential defensive draft picks.
The norm of giving up 40 a game in the playoffs has to end.
Good hire, maybe Tomlin gets out of the way a bit with Austin and Flores

I am completely floored. What a great hire!

Flores made himself toxic with that lawsuit. Which is why I’m torn on the hire. He’s definitely a good coach and great defensive mind. I really think the major reason he was hired by Pittsburgh is because he’s radioactive due to the lawsuit and the leagues veteran black HC and Rooney rule author owner are throwing him a lifeline.
Does anyone here think for a minute that Tomlin would hire a head strong defensive coach under himself otherwise? At any rate, I hope he succeeds.

You’re right. I’ve had a sneaky feeling all along he’d end up here because of all of this. Whatever the case may be…this is absolutely a win for us. Should be our DC straight away in my opinion.Steelperch wrote: ↑Sat Feb 19, 2022 7:03 pmFlores made himself toxic with that lawsuit. Which is why I’m torn on the hire. So how many years before Flores becomes HC?
And I'd be good with that. Just asking....

He’s a minority so if he gets hired away for a HC job we get draft picks. Not much downside with the hire really, aside from the PR of hiring a guy suing the league.chippedhamsandwich wrote: ↑Sat Feb 19, 2022 7:09 pmA motivated coach in waiting might be the best path for the Steelers

Awesome hire. What Flores did in the Super Bowl against the Rams was all time. Dude is a great coach.

Hes a great coach so im good with the hire, but i think his HC opportunities ship has sailed now.
Question is how much influence/impact will he have on Coach NHALS, who already knows everything there ever was to know about football?Greeksteel wrote: ↑Sat Feb 19, 2022 7:21 pmHes a great coach so im good with the hire, but i think his HC opportunities ship has sailed now.
You want to stay late to work on the game plan? Nah, you'll figure it out.

If by major reason you mean Flores had no other offers, I don’t disagree, but he still had to agree to take the job and work with Tomlin. Flores does not give the impression of being a yes man who is going to roll over.Steelperch wrote: ↑Sat Feb 19, 2022 7:03 pmFlores made himself toxic with that lawsuit. I look forward to him being in staff, that is for damn sure. Interesting he is sliding into the old Butler role. Wasn’t Butler some kind of general def assistant and LB coach prior to getting the DC job also? I can’t remember.

Imagine Tomlin trying to call plays over Flores head.
I would like to see a sideline fight between those two.
Dude’s a crazy psycho with a Billichick pedigree. Good hire.

Flores is the perfect guy for finally getting some impact plays out of Low Watt
I predict Low Watt will finally start being a difference maker

Toxic for the league administration and possibly Steeler FO, but he should be anything but toxic for the players considering the racial makeup of the league and Steelers, and shows once again that the PS FO talks the talk and walks the walk…should be good all around on the coaching side of things.Steelperch wrote: ↑Sat Feb 19, 2022 7:03 pmFlores made himself toxic with that lawsuit. It may become a distraction, but could be the good kind to distract attention away from play on the field while it hopefully gets fixed properly.
Of course it could go off the rails if Flores, Steelers and/or the NFL don’t handle things properly!
All he needs to do is stop the run! If he does this we will be a top 5 defense and if we have a competent game manager QB, we could do some damage in the playoffs. Of course it would be a season of heart burn and down to the wire wins and squeaking in again most likely.
Now about that O-line….
