We lost another

Always pictured those massive thighs when watching him run.
The Thunder in the running attack who spelled Franco and Rocky during games.
Best season was 1979 in which he started 10 game ( Franco started 15 games, Rocky 7 and ST 10 )
118-585 5.0 avg. 6 TDs
16 catches 231 14.4 avg. and 4 more TDs
10 combined TDs out of Thorton in 1979 is probably the least recognized stat of those late 70's teams

Thornton was a badass.
Tougher than fuck to bring down.

His best season was 79, as you say. He was so tough to bring down.Stosh-67 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 02, 2023 6:22 pm

RIP, Thundering Bull. I'll think of you when the skies rumble. Bless his memory and his family and friends.

Damn it. A valuable contributor and I'm sure a fan favourite. They had a roster full of "give all" types back then. A different era. RIP.

Damn, SWB, that video you linked to is terribly sad. Never knew Syd and his wonderful family went through all that. Price paid indeed. Prayers for them.
And in my opinion, the N-f'ing-FL is despicable for not taking better care of these guys who helped make the league into the giant entertainment empire it has become. Kinda reminiscent of the hardships suffered by our US military Veterans years later, when the government no longer "needs" them

Also, Marv Kellum yesterday. He was 70. Backup linebacker and special teams player for the first two Steelers' Super Bowl championship teams. Marv was famous for recovering the opening kickoff of the second half of Super Bowl IX leading to the game's first TD. RIP Marv.

Wow another vet gone too soon
Sorry to see another go, just heard this today. Marv was an excellent ST's player and good backup for our LB crew during the mid 70s. Losing too many of these guys lately. God Bless, Marv and his loved ones, RIP.JackLambert58 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 05, 2023 10:45 pmAlso, Marv Kellum yesterday. He was 70. Another one I noticed just recently passed away, Paul Martha, who played for Pitt, then with us in the 60s right until we got better. He played both sides of the ball, though not at the same time. His best work was at safety, where he played pretty well. RIP, Paul.
