The Offseason is Rough

Post by bradshaw2ben » Tue Jan 31, 2023 1:18 am

Let’s be kind to each other and remember we’re all happier and brotherly when the team is good.

I start with myself. I apologize for being grumpy or curt with everyone. Having a rough stretch, including losing a friend whose mental health episode resulted in him being shot and killed by the cops. Third friend and relative this week I’ve lost. Just sucks in all kinds of ways, especially for his two beautiful kids.

Just saying: we’re all on the same team and someone disagreeing with you about sports is what makes this board go ‘round, not a reason to attack them.

Take care of yourselves and try to enjoy the time we have on this messed up orb.

Sorry for your loss B2B. I come from an extremely large family, which is a blessing but can also be painful as you lose the ones you love, my advice is just cherish the good times you’ve had with your loved ones, and remember they’ll always be part of you and your journey.

Wil, if everyone was grumpy in the manner in which you exhibit grumpiness, we’d all be better off.

My best to you.

Man that's terrible. Very sorry for your loss. More and more people struggle with mental health these days. Seems to keep getting worse.
Howard Griffith had to resort to chop-blocking him during the 1997 AFC Championship Game. An incredulous Kirkland asked Griffith, “Why do you have to use cheap tactics like chop-blocking?” Griffith replied “Why do you have to be a 300-pound linebacker?”

I pray and know you will be that for your loved ones and your friends family.

Sorry to hear this Wil. Condolences. You have the strength to make it through. No need to apologize, either.

Sorry to hear about that. We get old and we experience the negatives that we didn't know existed. A classmate from HS needs a liver transplant from cirrhosis, he looks 80 years old. He has three young girls at 54.

There's beauty in the world, and nature. We have those perspectives to view our existence on the planet and have to remember them even when things are bleak and terrible. I get down, and up and down again. Winter doesn't help.

Bad things are happening all the time to everyone, no one is spared. In some ways it's programmed into our DNA. At the end of the day we have to watch out for ourselves and as much as we can the ones we care about and love. I consider myself fortunate, still, to have grown up in the Burgh. I need to take a weekend trip back to the Source soon and breathe in some of that PA air.

I can see the end coming sooner than I did last year.

Time heals all wounds.

Sorry for your loss, B2B. I lost a mentor and friend in a similar way a few years back. Walked around for a couple years not knowing how to feel—inconsolably sad, totally pissed off, or numb. It takes a while. You’re in my prayers.

Oh wow, that's terrible. I'm so sorry man. I can't even imagine.

This board is wild. I know I've been posting on and off going back to 2008, even wrote a few "articles" back in the day, I think around 2010 and that playoff run. Kind of crazy to think of a) where did the time go and b) how much has changed in my life since then. This place is like some bizarro universe compared to the rest of my life.

I probably enjoyed trolling a bit too much this year. It's all done more for just being goofy and poking the bear for my own entertainment more than any actual bad intentions, but since I couldn't really make fun of Mason this year, I had to shift to Kenny and some of the obvious jokes there. I didn't want to draft him, but hey, he's our guy now and he showed well towards the end of the season. I'm genuinely looking forward to next season. One of my bigger flaws on here is for some reason holding grudges about failed prospects that flamed out, even though I'm far from a draft savant or even a hardcore college football fan in general (in other words, I don't know shit). Like petty stuff such as "Well, how do you know this guy is going to be bad when you liked such and such in 20XX..." I need to do better.

I enjoy the wacky ass banter on here for the most part. I even came around on STD hah. I bet that dude would be a blast to have some drinks with and watch a game. Hope all you f'n maniacs have an awesome 2023. Let's get us some studs in the draft and build off that finish this past season.

My classmate from USCHS, Mr QB of the Panthers, lost his battle today. Gone just like that. Cirrhosis took him at 54.

I didn't notice you were curt or grumpy at all, don't worry about that. Sorry you're having to go through this.

He looked as old as my Dad when he passed. White hair, wrinkles, tired...defeated.

It's caused a lot of reflection today.

Sorry Wil

That is very sad, unfortunate. My condolences

Yea it’s good piece of advice to follow.

Best to have everyone shit on Brady instead. He was a great source of anger and frustration. I enjoyed seeing him struggle in life this year and hoped ghost of joe theismann paid him a visit. Wasn’t so lucky though !!

I feels better to rank on him

Sorry to hear some of the bad news from B2B and Langer. My condolences.

I love this board. Do we hold on to our opinions in stubborn manners for way too long? Sure. Are we overly critical at times? Probably, except in Tomlin's case where we almost all universally agree

The truth is we are all right and wrong. The important part is being able to admit when you were wrong and being able to laugh at yourself. It's a lot healthier.

Looking forward to a great 2023!

My condolences to B2B, Langer, and anyone else experiencing loss and heartache.
Several weeks ago, as the Steelers season was winding down against the Browns, my wife sat with her brother as he took his final breath. Just one of several gut punches we’ve endured recently.
Life, as wonderful as it is, has its way of humbling us and putting things in perspective. In today’s world, where it is so easy to hate someone simply based on opinion, we need a little empathy for one another. We never know when that 2x4 is going to smack us right in the chops!
