I was looking at depth charts yesterday and speculating he might be cut
On one hand I think he would be a great add
The flip side is multi unfortunately
- He’s very religious. Never a good thing on a team
- He’s weird. Just up and down on many levels. One day he is fine the next he is Jay Cutler personality wise

Was Weidl in Philly with him at the same time??
All he wants to do is make a few million as a backup, great gig for him and could be a hell of a tutor for Kenny over the next two years.
I am sure he would be happy in this position more than Trubinsky and he would cost much less, seems like the right fit.
On a side note, I met Foles’ Dad a couple of years back at a restaurant he owned in Austin, hell of a nice guy, great place too!

Bring in Cole Kelley. He was coached by Steeler legendary OC Todd Haley in the USFL this past season so he has to be much improved!
Howard Griffith had to resort to chop-blocking him during the 1997 AFC Championship Game. An incredulous Kirkland asked Griffith, “Why do you have to use cheap tactics like chop-blocking?” Griffith replied “Why do you have to be a 300-pound linebacker?”
He's an excellent system QB.
There's not a "system" QB on the planet that would excel in Canada's ball control offense.

The Eagles Super Bowl run was legendary, but it was also 6 years ago. Foles is 34 now and quite frankly he's been no better than Trubisky since 2019 or so.
Not sure how bringing in a brand new guy helps develop Pickett.

Agreed. Hard pass. Not confident he brings anything to the table.

In my humble opinion there is already a veteran QB on the roster [Trubisky], one is enough.
Id take him over Trubisky, would a lot cheaper.
PIT almost always honors their FA contracts. And they are probably fine with Trubisky as a backup.
I'm sure Trubisky would like to be released to go somewhere he can compete. But then he probably realized no one else will pay him anywhere near $8M this year.
Or maybe PIT is hoping they can trade him sometime later this summer.

Agree. I’d be more inclined to bring back Rudolph than Foles if I t came to be they traded Trubisky.
If Trubisky is smart he accepts he isn’t a starter in the league any longer and even if he went to a team to start that team will always be looking for their next QB.
He can carve out several financially secure and stable years for his family by simply being a good teammate and being ready if KP gets hurt.
I’m fine with Trubisky as a back-up. Provided he signs a cap friendly deal.

He'll be battle-tested as far as working under an idiot.
The all-access with the AAF/XFL/USFL is the worst thing that ever happened to coaches. You can see all their faults laid bare. It's hard to say which HC with Steelers ties has been the worst, considering Hines Ward, Rod Woodson, Todd Haley, and Ray Horton have been awful... but the winner is Kirby Wilson, whose approach to modern football was three runs up the middle.
Haley started two different QBs not named Cole Kelley in a disastrous start to the season. He even had Cole deactivated for one of those games. Now, he's like, 'Cole is our QB'. You're an experienced NFL offensive mind and it took you half a season to play the guy who's remarkably better than the other two? Yoi.

Yeah I expected him to be the starter and get to show his stuff especially since he's so much (physically) like Ben. You'd think Haley would have loved him and it's not like his other options were worth a damn. That's probably why he never got another HC shot in the NFL.bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Sun May 07, 2023 2:28 pmHe'll be battle-tested as far as working under an idiot.

I think we are all beating a dead horse with the backup QB position. The QB in the offense is going to hand the ball off at least 50% of the time and the other 50% will be short passes into zones or long ones into single coverage (where we have an advantage on combat catches)- stuff that Tribusky can do- hell any QB can do. You're going to get the best out of Tribs because he has been in the system for almost a year and he'll show why can be a starter somewhere else. A young QB will see that the reads are singular and if it's not there, throw it away.
I'm not religious, but how would this even matter? I feel like he would be more inclined to stay out of trouble. I have a feeling you're just trolling to get people going.SteelerDayTrader wrote: ↑Sat May 06, 2023 3:49 amI was looking at depth charts yesterday and speculating he might be cut

Bingo! He just can't help himself. Troll extraordinare. He also fancies himself a Steelers fan but hates everything the organization stands for.Jams wrote: ↑Sun May 07, 2023 11:53 pmI'm not religious, but how would this even matter? It is a bad take. Most of the league is pretty religious. They have prayer circles after every game with at least half the players on both rosters taking a knee at center field together. I played football for 14 years up through college and there was prayer every game, every level, every state and country.Jams wrote: ↑Sun May 07, 2023 11:53 pmI'm not religious, but how would this even matter? I don’t think he coming here as a number 3
I think you’re right.
People are also forgetting that everyone has already seen Trubisky. That prevents the fickle fans for "calling for the backup" the first time the 2nd-yr QB lays an egg.

I'm as agnostic as they come but I gotta ask: what's your theory about how being religious makes you bad for a team? I'm remembering Emmitt Smith having strong religious beliefs and being a fairly decent contributor on a Dallas team with some wild characters. Reggie White rocked out on the same Eagles team as Cris Carter (hard drinking Carter; not HOF caliber Viking Carter). I'm just saying. He's been in locker rooms his entire life and played at the highest levels. I remember Mark Jackson getting the same criticism prior to his being fired and replaced by Steve Kerr at Golden State.SteelerDayTrader wrote: ↑Sat May 06, 2023 3:49 amI was looking at depth charts yesterday and speculating he might be cut

There was this guy that used to play for the Steelers that was a fairly religious fellow himself, if I remember correctly. He seemed to be a good locker room guy, a strong team leader, and a pretty damn good player. His name was Troy Polamalu.
