Omar Khan interview on Pat McAfee May 18, 2023
Tomlin crashes it at some point.
16 minute interview
I must say while watching this I had the biggest smile on my face. I don't know how people can just ignore the vibe that is radiating out, that is projecting out from everyone involved with the Steelers. From Kahn, Tomlin, Weidl, etc. You get the feeling that the Steelers were like Austin Powers for a little while, had lost their mojo, but now they are back baby, yeah!
I love that they are getting back to the core of being a Steeler, toughness, nastiness, being physical. We were way too finesse for me for a good long time.

Doing things the "Steeler way" had become extremely outdated in the current nfl.Scunge wrote: βFri May 19, 2023 10:18 amI must say while watching this I had the biggest smile on my face. I am so glad that Colbert is gone, but even more so, that they are embracing the concept of team building through acquisition and utilization of assets, and not just grow your own investment.
And they just hired another scout, that is three in as many days. Once upon a time this team was known for having the fewest coaches and the same with scouts and the front office.
But now, they keep increasing the staff and coaches, and scouts and front office. That doesn't necessarily mean it will translate to success but I don't think it hurts, and the rest of the NFL had adopted having more in personnel for a long time. Steelers finally catching up.
I know people may not grasp this, but the 'vibe' I am getting from the current Steelers, this regime shift/realignment/rebirth is the same vibe I got when we moved on from the Dick Haley/Chuck Noll teams to the Donahoe/Cowher team in the early 90s. Things are slightly different, there is an excitement in the air, a sense of possibility, of hope, new ideas, new perspectives coming in that for me brings optimism.
And for those that say, still have Tomlin, well, Cowher was able to change and grow and build a contender again when Kevin Colbert came in with a new realignment/rebirth of the front office.

If changes to that are coming(offensive philosophy)~GREAT but I will only believe it when I see it on a consistent basis.
Not holding my breath.

I appreciate the Colbert years but I'm also glad they are over. Kahn just seems to have a new energy that may reinvigorate cool shades. It looks like an organization that an established player (a la Patrick Peterson) would want to join. Now if they could hire a coach to figure out challenges and time outs...anpsteel wrote: βFri May 19, 2023 12:29 pmDoing things the "Steeler way" had become extremely outdated in the current nfl.Scunge wrote: βFri May 19, 2023 10:18 amI must say while watching this I had the biggest smile on my face. We are going to play bully ball this year. Looks like that is the plan for the immediate future.fractalsteel wrote: βFri May 19, 2023 5:10 pm

If you sit back and look at it, this is not a bad idea. The majority of teams have defenses that are built to compete with this pass happy league. Smaller but quicker LB's or hybrid Safety/LB's. Now the Steelers come out with a massive O-Line and a mountain of a blocking TE (DW). They should be able to wear down these smaller 2nd level defensive players with size & strength & a big back. They start to crowd the LOS and Bang PA deepstillthere wrote: βFri May 19, 2023 5:52 pmWe are going to play bully ball this year. Hopefully this is an advantage for this team. It also keeps those high scoring offenses on the sideline and keeps our D fresh. It can work.

2023 team looks like the 1993 team. Tough defense, stud TE, iffy WRs, OK QB room. Pickett / Trubisky / Rudolph seem roughly equivalent to O'Donnell / Tomczak / Strom. Trubisky and Tomczak even have the Bears in common. Too bad the 2023 Steelers don't have an equivalent to Dermontti Dawson.Scunge wrote: βFri May 19, 2023 2:48 pmAnd they just hired another scout, that is three in as many days. 100 % with you on the taking advantage of everyone wants to be small and fast. Come see Pixburgh kick your teeth in and don't forget we will do it again next time. We are going to be one of the first team to go back to the back alley football roughhouse shit. They always say the game is cyclical.gojira5150 wrote: βFri May 19, 2023 11:03 pmIf you sit back and look at it, this is not a bad idea. Only Pittsburgh has an equivalent to Dirt (The best six three ever). His name was Iron Mike Webster.W&M_Steeler wrote: βSat May 20, 2023 12:09 am2023 team looks like the 1993 team. Definitely true. That '93 team also had Rod Woodson and Kevin Greene. On top of that, it had Greg Lloyd, Levon Kirkland, Carnell Lake, and numerous other very good players. On second thought, the 2023 team doesn't seem to stack up as well - I doubt the 2023 team will be starting 3 HoF players. Hard to believe the '93 team only went 9-7. I guess the offensive mediocrity held them back. Hopefully the 2023 O won't be as mediocre.stillthere wrote: βSat May 20, 2023 10:01 amOnly Pittsburgh has an equivalent to Dirt (The best six three ever).
