I'm not sure why the Steelers release Peterson while keeping Wallace. Patrick P remained valuable because of his on-field IQ — even if he's no longer physically capable of performing in the way he did during his days in Arizona. Wallace, on the other hand...

Thanks for clarifying. You're correct. I was thinking that Wallace had another year on last deal.Pabst wrote: ↑Tue Mar 12, 2024 7:43 pmWallace is a UFAbreeze wrote: ↑Tue Mar 12, 2024 7:34 pmhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5dJsPQXGPE

A veteran who still wants to contribute, and is willing to take on whatever role the team asks of him. Patrick Peterson profiles as a player worthy of re-signing.

I'm not even sure the recent acquisitions move the needle.
Perhaps with a home run draft and early rookie contributions, Steelers are a better team than last season, but I'm just not seeing it.
Man he's lobbying hard to get back on the team. He's even got a kid that used to be a CVS cashier pimping for him!PennyBacker wrote: ↑Wed Mar 13, 2024 11:21 amhttps://www.yardbarker.com/nfl/articles ... 0_40098884

If he "wants" to contribute so badly, is willing to do whatever is asked, and doesn't care about money....then be a coach! His desire to play (and "be relevant", is my take) just takes a spot on the roster for a player that can possibly get it done physically -- because he certainly can't. I also don't think he's all that bright, certainly not for someone with his years of experience. Last year, there were many times he screwed up his assignments on the back end.
He was once a very good CB (based solely on his superior physical abilities), but that time has long passed. I say thanks but no thanks!
But hey, MT LOVES him ....so there's definitely a chance he's back.
I want to contribute and take whatever role the team asks of me.PennyBacker wrote: ↑Wed Mar 13, 2024 11:21 amhttps://www.yardbarker.com/nfl/articles ... 0_40098884

Should the Steelers offer me a contract?
Wanting to do something and being able to do it are 2 totally different things

During his playing days, Joey Porter was one of the Steelers’ best emotional leaders. He was not as effective as a coach. Some guys do not translate their same leadership skills from the field to the chalkboard.
There are 3 CBs on the team with only 1 year of professional football under their belts, all highly capable athletes. Maybe Peterson does not offer much as a player, but maybe his experience as former all-pro could enable the young studs in the stable find their feet quicker when they hit the field, or have their confidence propped back up when they get burned.
To be sure, even if he does get re-signed, the Steelers probably do not see things exactly like the above. It is free agency though, and there is not much else to do but speculate.
My speculative solution for the roster's CB issue does not involve trying sign another starter, but to help the talent that presently exists there have the best chance to develop and succeed.
There’s no doubt a better answer to the CB roster issue, but the above was/is mine.
